I liked variable density soundtracks of old films because they had great high frequency ability, but bass frequently became distorted. And i noticed that when it switched to the variable area soundtrack, that the background hiss became less to almost non exsistant, because the area which was`nt being lit up by the "shutters" to photograph the sound was black and not exposed to the photoelectric cell. I also agree this was a very informative and well made film.
The name of the piece playing at the end of this video is Danse Macabre. P.S: I HIGHLY reccomend the Pipe Organ version of this piece. It is pure joy to my ears.
Is the difference between the variable density recording and the bilateral variable recording because the lightvalve has a much more delicate system? Because he said both were identical but there was definitely a difference in sound quality. Is this because of the system used or just the video?
@@maantube Well, not really. Analog is, just like digital, limited / modified by the system you use to capture the signal. Benefit of digital is that you can copy it endlessly without loss of information, meanwhile in analog, the errors of the system always accumulate the more you copy or process it. Analog representation of a signal is in no way more or less "real" than a digital presentation.

Today I learned that the term “soundtrack” came from the literal sound track of film. I’m so glad I stumbled on to this!

May be... Analogic is an image of reality as it is, whereas digital is always an artifact
