  • A look at a pair British made 1983 Wharfedale Diamond MK2 speakers
With a comparison to the Diamond 3 speakers.
Both budget speakers in their day and would have retailed around the £70 mark here in the UK, around $100

I had the Mark two diamonds in dark wood. Like a fool, i swapped them for a pair of Pioneer speakers. The diamonds were a far better build & sound quality. " Ah well, We live & learn." These still look good & not dated, years on.👍

I think the difference is all down to the tweeters. The cloth ones are just better than the Mylar ones.

I was actually curious to hear what the Diamond 1 sounds like in comparison as well.
The cross over is very cheesy. It would be interesting to spend a bit of money on a decent capacitor for the tweeter.

I inherited a single, white, Wharfedale Diamond 2 and I'm wondering how hard it is to upgrade the crossover in the box?

I did recap a pair of Diamond 3's and it did improve the clarity of the top end, video can be seen here th-cam.com/video/VQDQf8hXCww/w-d-xo.html

I don't think the woofers are same look like different material, the same size!

Thanks for the comment, I had to dig them back out as they were deep in my cupboard, I had a good look and it is real close between them, the texture of the cone maybe slightly different, but it would be slightly and was hard to tell. Though the cone cover was more easy to push in thus maybe slightly thinner on the Diamond 3's compared to the Diamond 2's, so in that respect they are different.
