    Thank you for this video! I have my exam in the 27th I’m so nervous as I had it in December and failed (even though I done the QB twice over and LFQ) but the point where you said “understand the underlying concepts”is what I’m struggling with. The exam questions were not similar at all for the MCQ! They worded it so differently. So Guys don’t relay on thinking it will be similar 😩 it’s so hard but I’m going to have to keep pushing till then

      Hi, I had my accounting exam yesterday. Not sure who your tuition provider is but if it's Kaplan I would strongly recommend watching the mock exam debrief videos for the Big Question. Really helped me formulate a strategy that was calm and collected as opposed to rushing about putting in bits of info provided for the adjustments. Also if you follow the steps from those videos you easily pass the biq question just by doing the basics. I agree with the wording of the Q's being different to the QB, my best advice would be to give yourself 1 hour for the multiple choice (2.5 minutes for each question) just so you've got the time to properly read the question.
      In terms of the underlying concepts, if you get a solid grasp on your T accounts that should help simplify things as it helps to break down the information in the question. Time apportioning costs was featured heavily in my exam, so I'd swot up on that as well.
      Hope this helps for the 27th !

      @@robn846 where do you find the mock exam debrief?

    • @robn846
      @robn846 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@5k556 It's after the Kaplan mock, on their learning platform. So if you study with Kaplan should be able to find it easily enough. If not though-all it says is for the Big Questions just go down the boxes in the order they're presented to you. That way alone is enough to pass the question and puts you in a solid place to do well on it.

    • @robn846
      @robn846 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@5k556 No worries ! I didn't have a background as such, but I had worked at my firm for about a year before doing the course and the exam. I took it in March, and got 77. Paper I got was quite nice, i got a standard set of financial statements for my scenario. I would strongly recommend not neglecting cash flow though-4 people on my course (3 from the same practice) got one, so it seems like they're pretty common

    Hey Luke, Great video mate! I sat my Accounting exam yesterday, walked out quite confident as I had answered all the questions, and didn't find the MCQ too difficult but unfortunately did not pass. I was a little startled as I have been getting 65% plus on the mocks and you are right a lot of questions that are worded slightly differently from the MCQ did not appear in the QB. I have had to resit i certificate before so this wasn't ideal. My question is, how did you prepare for the long answer cashflow questions, and how to did you structure your revision?

    Hi Luke, your video is very encouraging!
    I’m studying ACA as an independent student. I was wondering if we are allowed to use excel for calculations for the scenario based questions and the MCQ’s or are we supposed to calculate everything manually using a calculator? If there’s not access to an excel sheet, would we be allowed to prepare the statements on paper?
    Thanks

    Hi! Great video! I was just wondering if you have any tips for the statement of cash flow questions? I am finding them harder to grasp than the rest of the exam (it was covered on our last day of classes)

    • @LukeJamesYT
      @LukeJamesYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Seren, hope you are doing well. My advice would be:
      1. Do all the questions in the QB (as cash flow questions can definitely come up as your scenario question so make sure you are prepared for that)
      2. If you understand debits and credits use them to make sense of all the adjustments - this applies for income statement and balance sheet too
      3. Don't be surprised if some of the adjustments are non-cash, ie do not impact the cash flow statement, there is usually one or two in there on exam day to try and trick you out
      Hope that helps?
      Luke

    Hey Luke, great video really helpful! Do you recommend doing the exam in the centres, as due to coronavirus you can take them remotely (however using calculator and note taking on screen only) - was thinking it would be a big advantage to have a physical calculator and whiteboard? Any thoughts/recommendation

    • @LukeJamesYT
      @LukeJamesYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lucas, hope you are doing well. Do it in centre if you have the choice. I did my case study at home 3 weeks ago and it was a real stress. Software issues, internet etc and alot of people had similar issues.
      If you do do it at home make sure you buy an ethernet cable which stabilises your internet.
