@@HarleyQuinn-sv5yr I think he means that these segments have their own supply and drainage (as these segments corr. to the branches of the hepatic arteries and tributaries of the hepatic veins). here is a line from BD Chaurasia - "On the basis of the intrahepatic distribution of the hepatic artery, the portal vein and the biliary ducts" the liver is dividing into physiological lobes (i.e. hepatic segments)
अल्फा शुभम् Bare area of liver is one site where infections can spread from abdominal to thoracic cavities ; also it is one of the sites of portocaval anastomosis
