- Folks here is an audio recording of the now retire and sold Grayline Tours bus #4823 a 1986 Neoplan AN-340 Metroliner two axle bus with Detroit Diesel 6V-92TA non electronic engine and Allison HT-747 transmission. Not seen in this picture is the roof mount Sutrak ac unit similar to those use on Vanhool T-800 , T-900 Motorcoaches and the 1980's Septa Neoplan City buses. This bus was recorded in 1995 on BCT route-53 TRI-RAIL shuttle.
Oh yeah, Atlanta used to have Neoplan N416A Buses that were 8V71 powered. They were the loudest toughest MARTA buses ever, and the way they sound was like music to my hears. I really miss those buses
The fleet number on the Neoplans in Orlando were 800s. 1985s had 801-811, 1990s 815-825, and 1991s 826-831. Also 800 for that leased Neoplan AN460 that was running around here. There was a lot of interesting stuff around back in those days. Mears had a good mix variety of older MCIs. I wonder if any Prevost LeMarages made it down here.
Yeah i recorded seven of these Neoplans Metroliners in total but this bus sounded the best of all seven it had a hole in the muffler or something so you could hear it coming from blocks away.
That exhaust was sooooooo damn good sounding!! That 1st to 2nd gear trans. slip was nice too. I love this.
EEERRRGGGHHH!!! Why the low engine idle speed, why?!!?! That bus sounds DELICIOUS when in motion, but the IDLE, should've been turned up!
Im not sure the only 1986 Neoplan buses i always saw between 1992 and 1997 were 4817,4818 ,4820,4821,4822,4823,4824,4825,4826 i know there were more in Orlando FL but i never saw the fleet # on those.BTW 4819 was one of the 1981 ex Saudi Greyhound MC-9's with the double roof .Mears motorcoaches in Orlando had some too.
Sounds like Houston Metro's Neoplans of the same model but later year...
SEPTA's older Neoplans the 1982-86s had HT-740. After that ZF. How many Neoplan AN340s did Grayline have? I think I remembered seeing these and I actually thought they were transit buses and not over the road coaches. Reason being is Lynx had 35 foot Neoplans running around here back in the 90s.
Do you have any videos of them, becasue this Neo right here sounds pretty tough, and I can only imagine how they would sound with the 8V92 engines. Man they would roar hardcore
@rbrtloera The transmissions these buses had Allisons the Septa Neoplans had ZF
Do some of these Neoplans come with the Detroit 8V71 or 8V92 engines.
You wouldn't happen to have any recordings of them would you?
