This is such an amazing video! The editing is absolutely amazing! And it is so well explained! As a person who lives in Cardiff and used tfw every day, this even taught me some stuff. Amazing job
The ten minute shaving is two do with the locomotive hauled trains on the Manchster to Cardiff services by permitting them to travel at them at the same speed as the 197s. Also the 197s are diagramed to be 4 or 5 coach units on the Manchester to Cardiff services but if there is a failure of a 197 or 67 they will prefer to do a set swap for the failed 67 with a 197 and with a failed 197 pair they will just run it solo as it means you are not cancelling a train.
the mk4s and 67 the " gerald " is an awsome train .. upgrade to 1st class and you get wonderful food etc on the cardiff - manchetsre services... however anything from 153's to 197s are on this route.. so rather then first clas serives you get cattle wagons..
Overall this is a really good video, and explained TfW pretty well (from a Australians perspective anyway). One thing that would be good is a bit more continuity between the sections of the video as they seem very disjointed. Overall though, a really good video, with some great footage!
Thanks! I was really noticing the continuity issues while editing, but struggling to connect it all up. I will definitely make that a focus in future videos though.
1:30 wow that is genuinely so awesome I'm so jealous! How did he let you inside? Did you ask or did he just see you and ask you. My social anxiety could never ask
Same, but I think she just saw me with the camera filming the train and let me in. The train ws terminating and departing in about a minute, would have looked around for wayyy longer if I could have. It's condensed a lot in the video as I didn't really know what to say about it but though it would be too epic to leave out.
I'm mostly on Avanti trains in Wales, running from Holyhead to London, but I've also been on TfW and Great Western in South Wales and on runs from Holyhead to Birmingham or Manchester.
Nice, as of recent Avanti are running their new Evero 80x's on the Holyhead line, and they just retired the Voyagers which are going to Cross Country for a much needed train boost.
TfW want all their trains in and out of Manchester to be 5-car, whether 197/1+197/0 combo or 5-coach 67/Mk4 set, and *_some_* 5-car 197 services in and out of Manchester have actually run since November 2024. There have been several things preventing all of them being 5-car, such as: *Some 197s are being "nicked" by the Newport/Cardiff-Ebbw Vale and Maesteg-Gloucester/Cheltenham circuit, until they're replaced by the 231s, which will be made available when the 756s replace the 231s in the South Wales Valleys. That should happen this year, 2025 (the remaining 15 756s and all 36 398s are due to enter service in the current year, which will release those 197s). *Further 197s are being "nicked" by the Borderlands line (Wrexham-Bidston) due to the 230s' reliability issues, but progress has been made with battery and engine modifications to those, which should make the 230s reliable enough to release those further 197s. *The 197s have reliability issues of their own (at one point recently, as many as 19 of the 58 "in-service" units were stopped). Progress is being made to improve 197 reliability, but very recently there were still 7 units stopped. Hopefully they will bed in though, and hopefully TfW and CAF will work together on getting them settled down. So by the end of the year, there should be no more short TfW trains in and out of Manchester.
It's the American pronunciation, and the modern internet and the world being more "opened up" as a result has caused some British people to say "rowt" (route), elevator (lift) and couch (sofa) etc. Then again, it has also caused some American people to switch to saying data and multi the British way (dayta and multee) rather than the American way (darta and multeye), so, yanno...
About time tfw got rid of the shitty rust bucket 150s they are so old and so rusty no way can people rely on this crap trains tfw are pathetic relying on them soooi much
The 150 s are hardly crap trains they have kept the valleys services going for many years and still giving Stirling service at nearly 40 years I rather travel on a 150 than the awful 197 units with rough riding and hard seats

Cymru am Byth!! Great video and very informative, best way I’ve heard classes of trains explained. Thank you!
Great video. Very well put together and nicely presented!
Fantastic video on Transport For Wales.

Just as a quick extra note. Not all the 197's have been delivered by CAF let alone having entered service.
Exactly - 60 (of 77) 197s have been in service as of me writing this on the 21/1/25.

@GlobeSync1 that's still so epic! Congrats
Amazing class 756 TFW keep up the fantastic work I've subscribe to u

Class 756 have been in service since November 2024
I enjoyed the video I also travelled from Abergavenny to Manchester on a two car train it was too full TFW really need to address this issue.

@@RWL2012 maesteg runs to ebbw vale now and Cheltenham trains only go to cardiff
@offical_jamierubberfan thanks for letting me know 👍🏻
Great effort thank you. Just a note "route" is pronounced like "root" in British English.
I know, for some reason I just find it a lot easier to say it like that lol.
1:50 Mid* Wales
cool kid
Why, as an English person, are you pronouncing route is 'row-t' and not 'root'? Best of luck with your videos, thanks.
I honestly don't understand why it bothers people so much. I already replied to a comment about this so I won't do again. Thanks :)

The 150s are being replaced as we speak with the new units, however a small fleet of 7 153s will stay with TfW on the Heart of Wales line.
I won't say those trains are really really bad, but they are deffo not great at all.
The 150 s are hardly crap trains they have kept the valleys services going for many years and still giving Stirling service at nearly 40 years I rather travel on a 150 than the awful 197 units with rough riding and hard seats
