Unbelievable the amount of work you guys put into keeping this amazing game alive! I just downloaded the HD Mod and will play through it after years away. And FINALLY I will jump into Discovery because I've always wanted to try it. Thanks for the encouragement!!!!!
Left the game about 10 years ago, loved playing on HHC and Discoervy Server, soaked thousands of hours out of my younger me and i think this game and the friends i found while playing formed me :) Was barely able to understand and speak english back then... Thank you Discovery :)
Man I remember the mods for this game. They were SOOO COOL. People had x-wings, viper mk II from battlestar galactica and white stars even shadow vessels from babylon 5.
This feels like a middle finger to Chris Roberts' StarCitizen, seriously, after more than 10 years, SC still just got 1 system, but FREELANCER has, well, way more system, that really puts SC in shame.

The first game that i bought with my own money back in the day, now remastered?! Now with expanded universe?! HELL YEAH :P Fortunately, after all those years i forgot the story, cant wait to replay this game. Kudos to everyone involved in this.
@@Rummyson True. Star Citizen/SQ42 practically is a modern Freelancer/Wing Commander sequel on steroids. Though i really would love to see the original Freelancer remade with the story campaign in the vein of Everspace 2.
I still don't understand how another game has not rivialed this one yet. I was trying Starpoint Gemini 3 the other day and its close but the acting and characters are so bad. It gets the feel of Freelancer but misses on so much of the serriousness that Freelancer had while still remaining on the nose.
yeah, I suspect we will still play Freelancer another 20 years later because nothing is really coming close, if it looks amazing then the control scheme, writing, whatever is off, if it plays good it's usually nothing like Freelancer setting and story wise lol
Because it gets the basics right, and theres numerous unfinished game systems that were cut during Microsoft's rush to get it out the door. The world "feels" like its operating under its own power, even if it technically isn't. Plus the Story campaign has John Reves Davis. So yeah.... Chris Roberts understands how to make an immersive world when you get down to it.

As great a remaster this may be. an old classic like Freelancer deserves a proper remake.
Freelancer was made by Chris Roberts, who is making Star Citizen right now. Its still very much in development right now

No idea and it's really unfortunate.
Starpoint Gemini is fun to play, but the worldbuilding feels pretty weak, and the control scheme doesn't really compare to Freelancer's.

Very different. Discovery is a primarily online MMO-like mod, balanced around PvP. Crossfire has a much bigger focus on its single player campaign.
