Es muy fácil hablar desde aquí pero claro, nosotros como espectadores queremos, NECESITAMOS que lo termines... Seguro que al final el resultado es fabuloso como todo lo que haces!

    What a bizarre tragedy that the humidifier, which a machine intended to protect the wood of the guitar from cracking and distorting, went feral and nearly completely destroyed it. It shows your great dedication to this centenarian that you have been able to leave the tragedy behind and start to repair and re-assemble it. Your attention to detail and your clear love of relearning the luthier craft used for the original construction is inspiring. I am really looking forward to seeing how the rest of your work progresses.

    I repair guitars, and I have never used hide or fish glue. I use Titebond or Elmer's Carpenter's glue. Original Titebond won't release during high humidity, but can be removed with heat and moisture. The Elmer's I use is equal to TiteBond III, which won't give up with heat or moisture. I'm pretty careful with that stuff, and only use it to glue a headstock onto a neck, etc. Places where disassembly won't occur.
    Hide and fish glue are ancient tech, and may still have specific uses, but almost all modern adhesives are better at binding and filling, if used thoughtfully and carefully. Epoxy, however, can be dangerous...
    Love the old school method of gluing the back halves together! But I think I would have used rubber or latex tubing instead of the cord. I'm really enjoying this restoration!

    • @AnjudaGuitars
      @AnjudaGuitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot! I'm just trying to be as close to the original as possible. And I agree with you, nothing better than Titebond!

    Every musician will (at least secretly) admit that instruments have souls. I think that she was simply fed up with half-assed repairs and she did it to you on purpose. I don't know how she managed to convince the poor humidifier to go bonkers, but I'm convinced it was her. ;-) She obviously believed in you and apparently she was not mistaken!

    At 5.55 use paper tissue taped on and wetted---------leave overnight . At 6.00 better to have two spatulas and park one in boiling water while you use the other on . Keep alternating with the hot spatula . To clean up old hide glue use a small artist brush (in one hand ) and a dry cloth ( in the other hand ) Use boiling water to wash the glue and straight away soak up the water as you wipe it clean . Very quick and efficient with nothing soaking in .

    A friend of mine suffered a somewhat similar accident. He moved from Buenos Aires to New York and took some of his guitars with him. He ran two humidifiers 24/7 in his appartment to compensate for the different weather. One day, while he was away, one of the humidifiers died and even though the other one kept going it wasn't enough, the drop in humidity caused two of his instruments to crack: an Enrique García from 1922 that was in impeccable condition up to that point and a very early Hermanos Conde blanca that looks and sounds (or looked and sounded, I haven't seen it since) like an Esteso. A tragedy

    Comparto tu dolor, me paso algo muy parecido con una Vicente Sanchis, solo que en mi caso los costados no se despegaron ni perdieron la forma (tampoco era tan antigua). Al final se convirtió en una reconstrucción de la cual aprendí muchísimo. Así que que desde mi punto de vista vale la pena seguir adelante. Obviamente desde el punto de vista económico es una pérdida, ya que es uno, y no el cliente, quien tiene que pagar por todas las horas extras y la mano de obra. • @AnjudaGuitars
      @AnjudaGuitars  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good question! It should be in the gig and it wasn't there just by casuality. I removed it for whatever reason and that night I placed tha guitar back without it, to do it next day I guess. It was a happy coincidence because if in the gig, the wood probably would broke because of the expanding pressure.
