Forgiveness does not mean loving the criminal and pretend nothing happened (which is what is commonly understood). Forgiveness is not so much for the benefit of the criminal as much as it is for the benefit of the victim him/herself. Bitterness will eat you alive and your wound can be buried deep down inside without you knowing it, and it will affect your behaviour later on in life. Forgiveness means you can unleash your anger to Jesus, and He will heal your heart and give you real joy.

you know god blessed me by bringing a baby into the world. she was my neice bu i don't get to see her anymore because the mother has serious problems but the 1 year old little girl healed so much pain from when my friend died from surgery complications and the 1 year old was an infant at the tie she made me feel better. last summer she was 1 years old and she knew just how to comfort me when my kidney and intestine where acting up at the same time. the oldest duaghter would always hug me and i had an ear infection and the oldest girl who was 5 years old knew i was sick before i realized what was going on.
She has very sad eyes... Thank God she was healed

Forgiveness liberates the forgiver as well. U stay bound if you don't forgive. And just because you may have read the bible doesn't mean a thing. The devil knows the bible to. You can't understand it with bound eyes and perception. You need God in your life to reveal its truth to you. Not what anyone has said or what you think. God will tell u himself exactly what his word means if you allow him.
