Some people ran Vorse Raider as their level 4 vanilla beast warrior of choice in Fire Fist decks because you could have a 2K attack Raider on field with any Fire Formation, which gives you a 2K+ attack Dark monster you could tribute for Deck Devastation Virus.

I love these recap reacts, you get additional first hand experience commentary that wouldn’t exist otherwise, like the correction on the Master of Blades and the Ravine play for example
It is the issue that sometimes comes up when the video is based on research rather than first-hand experience. The video doesnt even mention trigon, but the innovation of that card was huge at the time, as it allowed for consistent ancient fairy access, which in turn allows for more powerfull turn 1 plays, which was something ravine rulers lacked prior.
It always seems like Tier 0 formats are hated when they're the current format (by virtue of prohibitive pricing/perceived uncompetitiveness), but are appreciated for being rather fun retrospectively years later.
i remeber hating dino rabbit format as a little kid only to see 2013 ruler and 2014 infernity only to really grow to like that format in retrospect lol
1:14:00 I agree big time, which is why im excited that Digimon is going to sync up its Japanese and American releases by next year! Finally, cards releasing globally, unified card pool, banlists that make sense in every region!
44:49 I was actually looking forward to Mecha P Beasts and ended up playing Gustov Armory Arm because i couldnt afford it. A solid 6k damage, then just 1 detatch and you won. It was not as great as I wanted it to be but it caught people off guard.
42:15 you ask favourite D-Ruler. Tidal is my favourite to use because I love water decks and foolish is such a good effect. Tempest however has the coolest design in my opinion and it's effects are nice.
I really hope he covers ARGs starting in 2014. I know that’s a GIGANTIC undertaking but I really don’t think you can tell the story of the game at that time without them
this was the first year I actively watched the world's matches, so I'm very nostalgic for it, because of that alone also, became my first lesson that an undiverse format can still be incredibly fun to watch and observe how players handle varied situations. so even though the format was just dragon ruler with a touch of spellbooks, it didn't make me any less hype to see them played repeatedly at the highest competitive level (even if my rooted for deck lost in the finals, it was all great fun to watch live either way) that said, 2023 master duel world's definitely got me even more hyped. as I wasn't just cheering on decks, but the actual players piloting *edit:* I forgot just _how_ many decks ltgy boosted, even if the dragon rulers basically made the majority of them unviable at the time. unironically a very cool set. that I also remember pulling a dracossack from, which was extra coolness on top
In december 2013 I got Druler borrowed from a friend to play its last kiss goodbye. I sided into Dark Magician Girl and my partner in crime sided Dark Magician. We split prizes in the finals. Such a cool memory.
The hit on fire fist spirit was horse shit. 3 axis wasn't even playable, really, and they killed the deck by limiting spirit. I was going to play 3 axis when rulers got hit, so I was and still am pretty salty about it.
If I had a nickle for every time the year starts with a fire set that made fire meta id have 2 nickles. Wich isnt alot but its weird that it happened twice
LTGT format was dogshit unless you were playing one of the two decks. Such powercreep was unacceptable. You could experience moderate success with any number of rogue decks prior to the release of that set.
I remember I did a purchase helping my father, and then without thinking I purchased like 2k dollars in cardboard. I felt so guilty for what I did, my father didn't say anything, but deep down I knew I lost his trust. Now as an engineer that kind of money doesn't seem a thing to me, is now that I appreciate the real weight of my actions
Check out th-cam.com/users/thelawygo who made this amazing Video!

"Proceeds to sit there for 2 hours..."
At least its only 2 hours and 36 seconds

cosmo blazer format is so underrated. jan/feb 2013 is such a fun format.

Yo. Never realized that Heliotrope had a Doctor Who shout-out. That's dope as hell!
I love the recaps. Helps show how the game progresses and deal with problematic metas.
I just realized what happened in 2013 almost happened in 2023. From water to fire.
kinda funny how you don't like the spellbook spell while playing runick fountain
This was the year I got back into playing the game. I am very fond of the Fire King structure
39:55 today I learned that the biggest card vendor in my area is a former YCS winner... How in the fuck didn't I put 2 and 2 together.

One day I can play Tidal in Ghoti. Someday he'll come off the banlist.

THANK YOU for the rant about Master of Blades. That card was so bad it's criminal 😂
1:05:30 Herald of Pure Light looks pretty aggro up close, as if you're about to catch these hands.

I remember baxk in 2014 i played 3.5 axis fire fist. Sadly it quickly became irrelevant with duelist alliance release.
This is actually the year is started playing
If rulers had spell support and didn't have "only once that turn" restriction it would be viable today.
56:04 i know that guy, i've played him before. In magic, of all things.
Mermail and Rulers are such cool archetypes
jax theme on background, dope
Are we not talking about the long dao 4 dragoons incident?
Mermail is one of the best decks ever made we need MERMAIL SUPPORT

Full sealed draft ycs was peak Yu-Gi-Oh. I also played gishki back than and it was fun but definitely not competitive.
I played gigas.dek
that’s odd, I always thought geargia had an inherently good match up vs wind ups. They never seemed to summon guys big enough to get over geargiarmor
29:00 chain beat also played Winged Rhino as well and with Horn of the phantom beast for Rabbit as well
Ahh the time I played dd dynamite burn during d ruler format for nats in Chicago and got stomped. Good times…
I was like 6 years old at that time bro

I pulled a dracossack out of a random pack I bought at K mart I was so excited 😂
The tcg were waiting so long to take over their own banlist they went mad with power when they finally got it and banned everything 😂
Not letting you add dweller is litetally the dumbest thing ive ever heard in my life
Getting pretty close to the zenith of yugioh (HAT). Where set 5 (non-floodgates) pass was a real turn 2 play. It was downhill from there.
in eu maybe...
Post september 2015 ygo was over.
I play chain beat in hat all the time
