Finally someone who just had to say it!! Personally I have been cubing since around 2008. At that time, I remember being exposed to so many cubing videos that were beneficial to me due to how informative it was. Unboxings, Reviews, Tutorials, and Walkthroughs. That was the norm for cubing content but those 4 concepts helped me and many others become better in the speedcubing venture. There were many channels that made it happen. I remember there was even a cubing channel where it composed of nothing but the best cubers in the world who would make tutorial videos like that (Cubing World). Then came along what I consider that last generation of true YouCubers like JPerm, Cubeorithms, CubeSolveHero, InsaneCuber, SpeedCubeReview,(you) etc. Around that time, some channels started to make skits and shorts for entertainment purposes. It was speedcubing themed, but not genuinely speedcubing related. Now there are just many "cubing" channels like Z3 Cubing and SoupTimmy that are nothing but random videos that's not informative at all. It relates to speedcubing but there's nothing about channels like those that will actually help me or others improve as speedcuber. Now as a middle school math teacher myself with my own Rubik's Cube Club, it's been hard for me to recommend a lot of cubing channels for new members to subscribe to that will help them get faster. I don't think speedcubing itself is dying. I really think that in itself is getting a lot more attention than ever before but the proper resources to make someone actually getting better is at an all time low. A lot of my students don't know what a CamCuber Zhanchi is, or the origin of the force cube or why it was necessary for force cubes to be created, or the milestones of cubing hardware like torpedoes, or who Lubix were, or what year stickerless cubes became WCA legal and why there were illegal before, or who Feliks Zemdegs is, or who was responsible for the modern norm of cubes being magnetized, etc. It's sad to see the current knowledge that cubers today have. I find z3 cubing's videos interesting and fun but he's not really about trying to solve cubes or learn algorithms, he's about learning about different puzzles and how they work, pushing the bounds of what twisting puzzles can be, and general interesting puzzle content.

10 years ago all puzzles were glossy plastic. Then, for no reason started to make mat plastic ones, although most people prefered glossy. Now UV coding feels the same as glossy plastic but it's a "feature", so they can charge you $5-$10 more dollars. What I'm trying to say is that many "features" are illusions, you don't need UV coding, you don't need adjustable magnets if the ones installed have the right force, you don't even need spring compresion, just a screw. Once the cube is set up you no longer need those things, and I'm sure most people use the same settings more or less, so a well balanced cube from the fatory would be enough. Companies are charching double the price the cube is worth for you to set up the puzzle. Most of the times most of the settings are unuseble, so they didn't even test them, they offer 900 different settings and call it a day. That's why Iove puzzles like the guhong pro, it come with no tools, only tension adjustment and you can do it by hand (although I would rather have a screw). No fancy box, no unnecessary stuff, just a great cube.
I just got the GuHong Pro for my son for less than $12 and picked up the RS3M v5 for myself for $19...seems like solid choices for just starting out. Hopefully we like and enjoy them. I like and appreciate the way you do your video's👍

I would recommend the V9 weilong as it is really an insane cube, it is my main and i switched to it from the gts2m. Gan 13 is also great. Happy new year

I agree the reviews from the large shop chains are hugely biased. Speedcubeshop did a WR M v9 vs GAN 13 and the insincere creep who did the review said the Moyu was better feeling, more controlled, and superior to the GAN in every way that counted. Then gave the win to the GAN because the UV seemed "brighter" on the GAN and the box the GAN came in was really shiny and made him want the cube more. Instead of just saying "buy the GAN, it's 50% of my business and makes me richer than Moyu cubes do. So buy the Moyu for a better cube but please buy a GAN and keep me rich." P.S if you think I'm being unfair to SCS by calling them biased, Jesse reviewed the GAN 460 and said it was "not only the greatest 4x4 that has ever existed, it's better than any 3x3 on the market as well. It will go down as the best 4x4 and maybe even the best cube of all time, definitely for the foreseeable future."

In regards to your rant, i like the sound of it, like redoing old videos, some people don't get it because sometimes the old videos explain it way better, but when I am looking for videos, I'm probably not going to click on the 8 year old video, i might find that video later, but the first one I'll look at is the one with the newest information, even if all the information is old, its good to revamp and reupload things that are relevant
I've been in and out of cubing since about 2016 and I can see the devolution of content like you talk about and I really only watch videos from the cubicle or scs if I want to stay on top of new releases. I'm not sure if I just grew up, but I feel like a lot of this is attributed to the fact that good cubers are getting younger, as compared to before, so channels are resorting to clickbait garbage to catch their attention. I do like the more organic content from channels like yours or from smaller channels that competitive cubers actually run. It's tragic, but I don't think it'll last forever.

@@SpeedCubeReview Alright man, Can i ask you for a recommendation? I would like recommendations for a cube that feels similar to the Gan 12 Maglev, but also has a good price. Do you have any suggestions?
@Karius... They feels a bit more solid. The plastic feels a little thicker and if that is important it could feel more premium. The Tornado has adjustable magnets and also both of them are a little smaller.
A wonderful review. Highly in-depth and well researched. The only part i dont agree with is the swift block. For a rougher turner like me, it just has too harsh reverse cutting, and when remedied, the cube pops. Like, really bad, otherwise, the review is very informative and accurate.
Brent Richter consistently uploads turorials on some of the weirder puzzles out there. I also recently started watching Brian Sun, he has some good CFOP tutorials. Looking forward to your updated tutorials, I learned full OLL thanks to your old one! Happy New Year 🎉🎉
I hope that glossy plastic will come back on standard cubes, I think UV-coated is a scam, and unfortunatly Gan keep increasing prices and still make all the cube-market artificialy increase ... a lot of pro-grade cube only cost 10-15€ so it is possible !
amazing vid! can I ask? do you know a cube that is similar to the feeling of the swift block? I am looking for a cube that is better than the swift block but retains the feeling that the swift block has. I really like a puzzle that has some weight to it.
@rjb_3019 All of those listed here are not "better." As you can get world record times on the Swift Block. Your current cube is certainly not holding you back from being sub-10 or lower. It's more about what feeling you want and what features to be available.
I learnt hoya from your walkthrough solves, and have only ever recommended hoya to other fellow cubers who were looking into getting started with big cubes. Yau seems more confusing to me still and hoya suits me perfectly. So it would be great if you make a proper tutorial on it so I can recommend it to younger cuber friends I have because there is not one video on hoya on the internet for some reason and needs fixing.
I totally agree with you on the quality of content on cubing channels, this one is a good source of good information to so many cubers! I'll definitely have to give the guhong pro another try, can get to like my maglev 55 since it's uncontrollable, will give springs a try since everybody seems to like it so much! 18:12 I respectfully disagree. Yes, the 12 and 13 are very similar overall, but I think that there is a huge difference between the 12 and 11. Funnily enough I main the 12 and the 11 regardless of their different feel, and I don't like the 13 despite how similar it is to the 12
Even before lubing and setting up, I found the tornado V3 the quietest. I have the YS3M and TengYun V1 too. TengYun is super quiet, probably quieter than the TV3. The TengYun has a different, muffled sort of sound - deeper frequency which is less clacky and piercing on the ears. But after setting up the TV3 it’s practically silent when you turn slowly. Incredibly smooth and satisfying. It can be louder though if you corner cut aggressively. Imo it’s quieter than the YS3M, but I’d still recommend the YS3 due to its slightly better performance. But that’s just my opinion - I used to main the TV3 and I still love it, but for me it doesn’t feel as good as the YS3M, WRM V9 or super weilong. And I even though the TengYun may be quieter overall, I wouldn’t recommend it in 2024 unless volume is really a dealbreaker, because the performance these days isn’t as good as the more modern cubes. It’s not very stable and the magnets are very weak, so your average solve times would probably be worse.
Did not think he would choose the guhong pro as the top pick. Unless his mind has changed since his review of the puzzle, he is just choosing the Dayan puzzle for it's size range
When ranting you should always name names or else I’ll assume it’s jperm. It’s jperm isn’t it. He posted that video where he said the lower you hold your cube the faster you can solve because of time dilation. Jperm didn’t even consider people might find mocking physics offensive. Tsk tsk

A wonderful review. Highly in-depth and well researched. The only part i dont agree with is the swift block. For a rougher turner like me, it just has too harsh reverse cutting, and when remedied, the cube pops. Like, really bad, otherwise, the review is very informative and accurate.
Any thoughts on which to get from the following two as a beginner? Super (the normal magnet one) or V5 dual adjustment?
Brent Richter consistently uploads turorials on some of the weirder puzzles out there.
I also recently started watching Brian Sun, he has some good CFOP tutorials.
Looking forward to your updated tutorials, I learned full OLL thanks to your old one!
Happy New Year 🎉🎉
I hope that glossy plastic will come back on standard cubes, I think UV-coated is a scam, and unfortunatly Gan keep increasing prices and still make all the cube-market artificialy increase ... a lot of pro-grade cube only cost 10-15€ so it is possible !
Have you tried it?
@@mynameisnonofyourconcern9715 tried what ?
Really love my GuHong Pro and hoping to buy a Tornado V3!
What is the clock/app you are using to time yourself?
FiveTimer
I am so glad I found your channel
Brand new, thanks for helping me pick a puzzle 🙌
Woohoo it's mega comparison time!
Another Year Another Gr8 Video!!
Happy new year 🎉
Same to you
amazing vid! can I ask? do you know a cube that is similar to the feeling of the swift block? I am looking for a cube that is better than the swift block but retains the feeling that the swift block has. I really like a puzzle that has some weight to it.
Your might like the ball core QiYi M pro.
@@SpeedCubeReview oooh I see, thank you for the recommendation!
@@SpeedCubeReview also, can I ask, is the dayan guhong m pro better than the qiyi m pro ball core?
@rjb_3019 All of those listed here are not "better." As you can get world record times on the Swift Block. Your current cube is certainly not holding you back from being sub-10 or lower.
It's more about what feeling you want and what features to be available.
@@SpeedCubeReview ahh I see, thank you for your unbiased opinion! I already ordered a qiyi m pro ball core
I have a tutorial here th-cam.com/video/7vLKsJ8_Jps/w-d-xo.html I do plan to make a newer one this year though.
I totally agree with you on the quality of content on cubing channels, this one is a good source of good information to so many cubers!
I'll definitely have to give the guhong pro another try, can get to like my maglev 55 since it's uncontrollable, will give springs a try since everybody seems to like it so much!
Thanks for the great video again, cant wait to see what 2024 will bring to cubes and community!
Happy new year🎉
Great comparison. Subbed
Happy New Year dear friend 💜💜
Wow I'm surprised with the top choice I thought you'll go with the v9, but excellent choise whatsoever
What cube you recommend me to buy my biginner son not for competitions but a good one that turns properly
Any from here. The $10 can perform just as well as the $80 so don't worry about spending a lot.
@@SpeedCubeReview ok then like a middle one that he can use and progress with it
That's all of these. There is no bad choice. Check the end of the video where I have an overview of my top choices.
Just got back into cubing after 5/6 years doing other stuff. I really miss RedKB and Crazybadcuber
Happy new year Shawnnn!!!🎉🎉🎉Find myself deviating from cubing again lol after buying flagships this year. Nevertheless really enjoyed my favorite videos of yours the yearly mega comparison
I just bought my rs3m v5 bc uv coated brandnew for only 10 bucks 😂
Saw someone using a tornad v3 at nationals and a corner magnet fell out. Instead of putting it back he threw it into the crowd 😂
I still have the rsm 2020 and I’m scared to upgrade
Does anybody know what channels he means?
I have started watching a lot of smaller channels like pete the geek. He had some crazy non-wca puzzles.
For me , i don't understand my Tornado v3 ...
He's like not performing as i was expecting , he is good but i think he is very dry and that's why (cause i don't have lube)
Nevermind , 3-3-3 worked a little bit
Happy New Year 🎉
18:12 I respectfully disagree. Yes, the 12 and 13 are very similar overall, but I think that there is a huge difference between the 12 and 11. Funnily enough I main the 12 and the 11 regardless of their different feel, and I don't like the 13 despite how similar it is to the 12
which cube do you think is the quitest among these?
Possibly the ys3. It's nothing compared to the TengYun still.
The ratings are more objective about the features and performance. I go on to mention my personal subjective favorite as well.
Super rs3m 2022 ballcore or dayan guhong oro m ballcore please answer
I did answer that in the video
İ am turkish i cannot transtale the video here can You please write it
There is no best. It depends on the feeling you prefer.
So wich one do You think
It depends if you want spring adjustment and more stable or an option of different sizes and more flexible
I subscribed
FMC please, DR HTR would be nice
FMC and DR in th-cam.com/video/YCuDT4Bfg4s/w-d-xo.html
HTR likely this year
@@SpeedCubeReview Thanks, looking forward to the HTR tutorial!
I just posted an HTR solve I did today on my Instagram.
@@SpeedCubeReview I'll take a look at the solution thanks.

When ranting you should always name names or else I’ll assume it’s jperm. It’s jperm isn’t it. He posted that video where he said the lower you hold your cube the faster you can solve because of time dilation. Jperm didn’t even consider people might find mocking physics offensive. Tsk tsk
LOL that was an obvious april fools joke
@@joshk147 that leaves the question who is he really talking about?!
