Stedman Triples at Liskeard, Cornwall

Excerpt from around ten minutes into a peal of Stedman Triples, filmed 7th July 2017.
In a week where "good, heavy eights in Eb" have been doing the rounds on the Bellringers Facebook group, I felt it would be a good idea to contribute myself. Except the contribution here ends at "Eb"!
The bells were cast at the Pennington and Mears (Whitechapel) foundry across various dates, the most recent being the 1, 2 and 6 in 1901. They have an old-fashioned growl to them (the deep note belying their comparatively light weight), but are not the most inspiring or tuneful ring of bells in Cornwall!
There was controversy here in 1866, when a new vicar - the Reverend F.S. Cook - prohibited the ringing of bells for any secular activity - most notably for the town's annual mayor choosing. The local citizens took matters into their own hands, breaking into the belfry to ring. Two nights of ‘indecent and lawless outrage’ followed. How would they have coped in lockdown!
Indeed, our peal here wasn't without its drama. With ten minutes to go, there was a loud BANG - from where we don't know! - but it was like we were shot at! Or maybe it was the ghost of Father Cook....

@@BellringerBen I seem to remember the handling being OK, but not the easies to ring accurately. Tonally not the best! They are OK - not great but not terrible...

This seems like good exercise. You're moving your arms lots. Good arm muscle workout.

Thank you - yes, it isn't usually strenuous (unless the bells are a particularly big or difficult ring), but it is good upper-body exercise, and uses muscles one wouldn't normally use otherwise. More than that, it is a good mental exercise (remembering the patterns and keeping concentration), and develops co-ordination (such as when to catch the sally - the fluffy bit - and when to pull your bell so it rings in exactly the right place).
