Excellent documentary, my father trained as a forest ranger in the sunderbans in the 50s and we still have his photos of that time, he had a book called the Man Eaters of the Sunderbans, I must have read it a thousand times, my father loved the jungles and being a forest officers kids we spent a great part of our childhood in the forests, I love and respect the forest guards.

It's said in Sundarbon, "if you have seen the tiger, you'll remain alive". Because almost all the tiger victims didn't get the chance to see their killer. As tiger is an ambush predator, all happens within seconds before anyone can react. No weapon can be used at that time. Bcos, you need to see the tiger to aim or fire. Even before one draws the weapon, the hunter vanishes with the hunted. It's also said, "you can see a tiger only when the tiger wants you to see him". The tigers chooses and keeps watching his target for hours from invisible position, waiting for the right moment. The only way of survival in Sundarbon from tiger attack is to remain alert and not to give any chance to the tiger to ambush you.

SonOf Gazorpazorp While your question is quite valid from an outsiders point of view, I will try to give you another perspective...Purpose of weapons are two fold. Firstly to offer protection as the tigers of Sunderbans are notorious for their aggressiveness towards humans and forest workers as well as villagers are at high risk when entering the forest. As a standard procedure, there guards are trained to fire in the air to scare the animal away incase he gets a chance under a tiger charge.
Secondly the weapon is also for protecting against poachers.

    • @damodaran2629

There are hardly any case of forest guards shooting and killing a tiger. It is the poachers who shoot and kill tigers. These guns are for shooting in the air to scare away tigers and for protection against poachers. There are far more forest guards who are killed by poachers than tigers.

@@damodaran2629I am very well aware of the fact that forest rangers wont shoot the tiger but for their own protection if the tiger launches an attack even after firing in air the guards can still use a taser to defend and save themselves from the wild beast. A tiger would not be able to differentiate between a guard or a poacher, they are both are intruders for him in his territory. Hope you get my point.

How should the animals will drink water when the guards have put a net there?
    Explain please

The animals don't drink the sea water as it is salty. they only drink from the fresh rainwater sources, on the islands. Also, the net fencing is only towards the village side and only for some 90 running km. the rest of the sides, and islands are completely free. So there is no problem for the animals to move also. Also each day there is high and low tide and the water goes onto the islands through the net. :)
