    Hey .. that's great!
    I invented more or less the same mechanism in 2014 for cassava sticks planting purposes. I am glad to see your plans on your nice farm. I do hope to keep up a contact with you other there for hopefully future exchange of ideas in agriculture field.

    I was expecting a big more mechanical robo-wizardry, but this still must beat the heck out of crawling around out there for a week. Forget that! If you had the chance to replace this with something "newer and fancier", what would that be?

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are planters that carry the plant into the ground. This eliminates the bending over. That would be great. However, because I use it to plant other things as well, like potatoes and onions, i prefer this one.

    This is quite cool. I am also trying to develop a simple transplanter. Hopefully, it will work well.
    Just a question on your system, though... Have you thought of trying to insert a hopper so the planters drop the seedlings to the ground through it instead of going all the way down with their hand and fingers? If it works, I think it could be great both in terms of ergonomy and safety for them.

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The planter must hold the transplant till it enters the closing wheel or it will not plant straight. There are more complicated planters that have a wheel that plants the transplant.

      @Raymond Whittier I have a Kubota 2601 it handles it just fine I make the planter get off when I lift it, I probably would not need to the three point should handle it with not trouble. The lower speed on the Kubota makes it easier for the planting crew. Glad you stopped by please if you have not yet hit the subscribe it really helps me out. I am on live every Thursday night 7 central and try to answer any questions. I also try to share something garden or farm related.

    • @chickenjohnny3308

      I bought mine used for 400. New they go from 2000 to 8000. The one I have is around 2000 and is still being made under the name Old Faithful. Hogand Machinery has a website.

    What's the highest seedling transplant rate that is achievable by a single system, regardless of capital investment required?

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its hard to say. I have seen some systems that achieve massive volume. There is a commercial version of the paper pot Transplanter. I would guess that it is capable in a multi row setup of thousands of trans plants an hour with a two man team.

    Hey Chicken Johnny! This was great! I'm expanding out my vegetable farming. A transplanter is in my future. How many horses does the tractor have to be to use one of these? I'm about to purchase a subcompact tractor so wanted to find something that would work with it

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tractor I am using in this video is a 60 horse ford. This year I used my Kubota 2601 (25 HP) subcompact. The Kubota works great but it's too light the riders need to get off the transplanter when you turn around. With the ford ( this is a 7000 lbs tractor) I can lift and turn the workers never get off, however, it is too fast for most people even in low1, I prefer pulling with the 2601 I have around 200 pounds of forward ballast and the transplanter still lifts the front wheels off the ground. There are transplanters that are lighter. All in all the subcompact works fine.

      @@chickenjohnny3308 you sir are so very kind to answer. Thank you! I'm likely to purchase a Massey Ferguson 24 HP sub compact and wanted to be able to use a transplanter in the future. I'm overjoyed with that information! Would you recommend weight on the front to stabilize?

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will look tomorrow. They call it old faithful it is extremely versatile I have seen it used for trees. I have planted potatoes onions, sweet potato and every manor of seedling. I used an Elis similar to this to plant Tabaco years ago. I like the Holland better it seems more robust. My brother has a New Idea Transplanter I think it may be more comfortable but has more moving parts.

    • @chickenjohnny3308
      @chickenjohnny3308  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true three people plant one two hundred foot row perfectly striat in three minutes verces one planting same row nor so streit two and a half hours. Now very true the one planting by hand will be working harder so there is that.
