    Thank you for producing this video. Removing my printer and reinstalling it worked. Now I can scan again.

    When you could scan just by pressing the damn buttons on the damn scanner. Now you gotta log-in into the damn app and add your damn email and what not. LAMEEEEE

      I understand that you are experiencing an issue with your printer as you need to create an account for scanning.
      I will do my best to assist you.
      Yes, you are correct:
      To use the HP Smart application - at this time and for several versions since late 2020 - you must sign into the application using your HP Account.
      HP Smart is not mandatory software.
      There are other options - each one provides a scan service that does not require that you sign in.
      If you are using a computer, install your printer's Full Feature Software (full driver) using the Easy Start wrapper. After the software is installed, the full driver (printer software) includes HP Scan.
      You can also use below applications:
      1) HP Scan and Capture: Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher Download-Save-Install HP Scan and Capture
      HP Scan and Capture is a simple and fun application that captures photos or documents from any* HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera. These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications.
      * NOTE: The correct HP drivers for your scanner must be installed from HP's Support Website.
      2) Windows Scan - Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher
      “Get” the application from the Store > Windows Scan
      3) Paint (mspaint)
      Open Paint
      Expand the “white background” area to a size to accommodate your data. If unknown, try 1300x1300
      File > Select “From Scanner or Camera”
      Select your printer > Follow the prompts to scan and then save your item

    I tried all the options given but it still cannot connect to the scanner. It was able to scan via windows fax and scan 😔

    I couldnt scan from windows fax and scans so I reset the usb printer connection. After that now I can use windows fax and scans and can print through the ctrl+p command but now the hp smart app doesnt show that my printer is connected.
    I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now when I add printer, it shows no printer found, usb is connected and I can use it to print by ctrl+p but not through the app
    Printer is HP Smart Tank 516.

      ​@@HPSupport Thank you for your response. I was able to resolve my technical issue. However, I do have some concerns regarding the addition of software-related problems to potential hardware issues. The HP Smart application, in my opinion, represents a step backward in terms of user experience, particularly with the requirement of creating an account for scanning purposes. It seems that used printers are now offering better value than new ones, which indicates that something may be amiss. I believe this is a clear indication that there may be some issues that need to be addressed

      If you are setting up HP Smart for the first time, you must create or sign in to an HP account. If you update to the latest version, you do not have to create or sign in to an HP account except in these cases: You install an HP+ printer. You install HP Smart on a new device, or you remove and reinstall the app.
