    When they light up electric blue like she did at leader and the tail can actually turn white, it's one of nature's most magnificent displays of the Queens of the oceans! Incredible. I never tire of this. Then the shift to bronze...what a blessing to be able to hold her till she revives and let her go to breed!!! Yeah, naming our favorite lures, all the names of lures I've had and loved over 45+ years, many now retired and just battle scared, some individual lures, having caught hundreds of fish, some, so many 500+ big blue marlin , and I remember most every one!!! Bummer when you lose one of those! Beautiful fish! Kona, and the Big island, with mauna kea and mauna loa volcanoes, which continue dropping down deep into the blue abyss giving deep drop off ledges so close to shore, it's very special! Hawaii is one of if not the most isolated islands on the planet, and mauna kea if measured from the ocean bottom seafloor to its peak is the tallest mountain on the entire planet! Imagine the ancient Polynesians when they first arrived in their sailing canoes and saw the big island, arriving at ka lae, seeing volcanoes erupting lava fountains up to 2000 ft. Into the sky, coming close to the island in really rough towering seas!!! Magnificent!!! Herb Kane, a famous Hawaiian artist, painted this scene. It's absolutely awesome. Every time I look at prints of it,it just gives me chicken skin, because I spent so many years fishing this exact place!! Check it out! Also In the King Kam hotel in Kailua kona there's one of his huge paintings in the lobby. Depicting, King Kamehameha with several big ahi on the ground that were caught off kona in koa canoes!!! It's depicting a scene from right off the place the Hotel is on, from ancient times. The history of the Big island and Kamehameha's rule, eventually conquering all of the Hawaiian islands is epic, and the island has places where the "mana" is felt so strongly, if your perceptive to it! Such a special place and people!!!! Proud and blessed to call it home and to be born and raised here!!! Fishing where the ali'i once fished!!! What an honor!
    No ka oi!!!

    Spring trades, if they are blowing 25-30 knts, and have a strong north component, then up on the grounds off keahole, you actually have a little wind and bumpy/ small chop, compared to the normal flat beautiful calm water of kona. Just spoiled, fishing off kona , hence why charter boats and others rarely ever travel beyond to the really extremely rough waters in spring. It's more than nasty in March in particular, when way way down into oblivion, gale warnings are common then and very few fisherman will even venture out into these waters. It's insanely rough, especially after2-3 weeks straight of blowing 30+! The size of the waves get massive and if the current is opposing the wind and swell direction, it's terrifying!!!!! Green water!! Love those big spring donkeys off kona! Thx for the video!

    Mate great you removed the hook, real class effort. Doesn't sit with me cutting leaders and leaving hooks in. Beautiful fish. Thanks for your content. We got a 388kg blue off East Coast Northland NZ many years ago. A life highlight.

    I’ll never forget my first blue marlin, as a captain out of , Ponce, inlet Florida the fish came in on the dredge so lit up we were gaffer fishin and we pitch a baller back on a 80 w he was so beautiful I couldn’t put the hook in umm my crew was pissed but looking down on that fish from the tower is something special.

      @@waterman241 they’re there in late April and early may but you see thim by accident and have have something ready. That day we had an 80 wide that we were trolling high speed in the morning for whaoo on the ledge? I screamed down from the tower to my mate and he hooked on a big C&h lure that had 400 pound leader and snap he took the high speed led off and grabbed a 10 pound dolphin out of the box that was dead, hooked it through the lips, pitched it into the wash of the boat. I got the bait skipping on top and he greyhounded the bait we dropped back like a 20 count and he locked it into gear I throttled up the boat and we were right fish was 500 llb and hooked in the jaw I was 18 years old running a 70 foot Viking called how sweet it is for the owner of sweet in low sugar company. Now I live in California San Diego and run a tuna fish boat

    Hey buddy. Got an opening Saturday or Sunday? From Maui. I fish mostly mahi and ahi. I’m scared of the big boys. Would love to see first hand how you handle those thugs. Me and my lady strike mission to kona a few days. Put a deposit on new boat in Hilo.

    Can you go into abit of detail about what you are trying to do with the boat position once you are hooked up? I heard your mate say something about change of angle, but are you trying to drag her down current to lift her when she goes deep? Do you increase the drag to lift them when they are deep?

    • @waterman241
      @waterman241  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well there is a bunch to go over with that and I would say it’s probably different for many captains how they do things. I’ll put it into the next vid when we catch a big one. There are some tricks that can help catch the faster. Thanks for the msg and idea on more content. Stand by we will talk more about it
