They can say what they want about Michael Anthony. He plays his ass off, has great stage presence, and is one of the best backup vocalists that there ever was.
Michael Anthony is a Very Big Intricate part of Van Halen and is Van Halen from the Very 1st Album in 78’ No One can sing ‘Back-Up’s’ like Him and Eddie Together; and to Fallow the Guitar MASTER is Not an Easy Task but He Did…. I Only Wished Eddie VH didn’t Have to Treat Him SO Poorly in the End

Wow didn't know this existed. It sounds fantastic. Dave was crazy for walking away from this band. Thank God Sammy jumped in. I'm blown away this performance is awesome. 🏁
I got to see VH only twice. I saw them on 6/8/84 during the 1984 tour with DLR and again on 3/25/1995 for the Balance tour with Sammy. I initially caught Eddie's bandana but then some asshole ripped it out of my hand two seconds later! I was so pissed as that would have been a great keepsake. LOL
You need to be schooled as David Lee Roth cam play an instrument too including guitar and piano and he is actually quite a decent guitarist himself he just did not like playing electric or really playing guitar and singing guitar at the same time except for ice-cream man. Where Sammi enjoys playing and singing at the same time and that I think was part of the issue later on with Eddie he wanted to again do the old Dave stuff Sammi didn't. Which is part of what still divides so many fans. As for Dave during his first stint with van halen he was not consistent live and could often sound our of key and did nit song the sounds like the record or put any effort in live to actaully sing. But that changed when he returned in 2007 and people then complained why is Dave singing higher than the record now when I actually liked Dave putting effort in to sing those songs VS his first stint.
Long long term fan of VH. God I miss EVH. Never EVER BE ANOTHER LIME HIM EVVVVVER!!! He inspired me to move from bass at age 8 to move to guitar 6 strings in high school. Now 60+ years old....9 guitars 2 basses and a 100 watt fender champion amp dialed in with all EVH'S pedals onboard in my sound studio.....yeah....he will never be too far from my thoughts when I pull up a concert performance like this! Pure genius and theyre tight as a rubber band with that thundering drum set of Alex's & Mikes pounding bass lines! One of their best performances Ive ever listened & played to! One hour and 12 minutes of pure perfection! RIP EDDIE. WE MISS U BROTHER. Your namesake legacy is in good hands with Wolfgang whom you loved dearly!! EVH 4EVER!!!!❤🎸🎼🎹🎤
42:54 Michael and Eddie vocals always amaze me at how HUGE they sound. It does not get better than this "background" singing. Their voice blend perfectly and become like a celestial choir much bigger than two people singing
That's why they worked so well Live even with uncle Dave (who never sung in key, beat or even the same as the time before), but with Sammy who sung the songs like they should and hit every key - it became magic!!! This live recording (no matter what fixes was done to it in post) is one of the best VH live recordings and they were really at the top here!!! Having Sammy on guitar on selected tracks really worked and I think Eddie loved having another guitar to play against but for some reason Sammy stopped playing guitar soon after this... Van Halen was a fantastic band and they really did great productions, before Eddie started drinking too much... I'm glad Michael and Sammy are still playing and singing together and they can still hit all notes!
Being young and hearing Summer Nights blasting out a radio on a summer night back in the late 80s was absolutely priceless. Hearing the song takes me back for second.
Wish VH would have played more Sammy tunes when they were together! Their concerts were AWESOME! Always love hearing Edwards take on Sammy tunes! Edward Van Halen is a monster on guitar! I collected all the VH CDs - all eras, went to their concerts and learned how to play the VH music on guitar! Thanks VH!
At their very best . And Sammy v David Just see the difference in this opening track what Sammy brought to the band his playing and vocal ability. Love both guys and what they did with VH but Sammy was a whole other league for me.
Literally any singer would be better than Sammy. Van Halen stopped after Dave left. Dunno what this video is, but it ain't nothing compared to the Van Halen of the 70s and early 80s.
Saw Sammy three times David once. And Roth when the band did not have Michael on bass so it was a different band. But sound wise Sammy the best Roth talks a lot.
I went to go see Wolfgang's band open for Gun's & Roses. Wolf & band were fantastic! I was bored out of my mind listening to G & R (never a big fan), but wanted to see Slash play. Great player, but also beyond boring to watch. I was very disappointed. There truly is no one like Ed, as a guitar player & performer on stage. The joy he exudes is so genuine, fun & infectious. Such a tragedy he's gone...far, far too early. Such a gift he was.
Sammy looks stressed and worried doing solos, understandable as you’re up there with the GOAT of guitar players. Love Eddie’s smiles and I sure do miss my idol. VH fan forever!
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 Yep the Frank Erwin Center. I grew up in Lago Vista and going to all those concerts from 1982-89 as we did was a treat. Frank Erwin Center, City Coliseum and The Back Room were our concert halls during that time period.

As an old school fan...Yep, that's a fan of the DLR years, Sammy is 1/2 of the Van Halen line up. VH1 to 1984, masterclass. VH 5150 to Balance, proof it wasn't just production magic and a fluke. Before I die, or Eddie, I'd love to see a concert where both Sammy and Dave sing. Eddies son is Eddies son, but with Mike would just be fitting. For me it was hearing 1984 as a kid that hooked me, then about 6 months later I heard 5150...Fuck me I was spoiled...
Always SH vs DLR…both guys had strengths and weaknesses. The thing about Dave their early catalog was so badass. The shows with Sammy were tight. The albums with Sammy were a mixed bag.
Van Hagar we called it. It was different but fun music. Both Van Halen and Van Hagar were great depending on the party you're at. I prefer Van Halen but love hearing anything Hagar does.

To think that literally everybody being born from now on will never have the privilege of walking the earth at the same time as Eddie van Halen.

That's a little much
What a huge difference it makes to have a lead singer that can also play an instrument!
And a singer that can actually sing
Both of you are apparently deaf and love mediocre soft rock. Also, this is freaking Van Halen, it doesn't need 2 guitarists.
... It's a plus point even if Eddie could've handled it alone easily all by himself...as Sammy's 🎸 never came in the way of Eddie's...
