OH MY GOD!!! one of Mopars finest hours!! High school,70-74 the people were as hot, as the cars!!! Drinking my tea, wishing we had a time machine! When I realized, YOU DO!!!!
Joe, I absolutely love the support your channel gets! It’s soo cool to see everyone getting excite about your car and the changes you have in store for it. This tunnel ram, if properly tuned will give more power at every usable point in the curve. Soo cool
Would be interesting to see what the power numbers look like at the rpms you need... It's frustrating when the killer looks don't equal the best performance. Wow that GTS hood is crazy cool.
Totally want to try a tunnel ram on my 440. I went to a fibreglass 6 pack hood but I kept the steel hood just in case I ever pull the trigger on the ram. Looks awesome!
I didn’t think the all black valve covers would look that great, but they do look nice! With your future build, that tunnel ram will sing down the track and it looks awesome!! I’ve been debating whether I’m going to tunnel ram on my 416. I ran one before on a 360 and loved it.
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop on the lifter deal... Check the rollers for play and mic the foot of the lifter vs the body... If you see a difference time for a new set.. otherwise just clean really well.. oil and reuse
There's an old school mod that takes a tube (I had that done on an old 340) or hose going from in front of the last lifter pair on the behind the front lifter pair on the drivers side & a Herb McCandless oil galley mod to enlarge the diameter to the mains. The tube keeps the oil from hydraulicing (?) when it has to make that hard turn to go down to the mains & rods at high rpm. There's probably more to it, but that's what sticks out in my mind from 30 years ago. Never had a problem even at shifting at 7500. Hope this helps. Had W/2 heads also. Hopefully I'll be able to put my Batten W/2s & my Pro Dominator Tunnel Ram on my 408 build before I kick a rod! Good luck Joe, look forward to seeing the build.
Ran a ram for years on the street , those 660 carbs r the real deal for that ram ... I think with the set up your going to have the ram is the way to go if your going into the upper RPM range .... I’ll be watching .... I have a glass GTS hood as well not as nice as that one the first owner made it himself back in the early 70’s so that’s kinda kool
Great Idea with the Valve covers I guess you would finish them with cutting the Needed holes too. I really like the Tunnel Ram i in the 1980s my friends used tow bars before they got open trailers. I should have a core now for my Custom cam grind the machinist spec said 266@ 0.50 and .688 with same trick flow head set up as yours for my 416 12.0:1 ,in the works all this time ........
Those "Fat" valve covers look sweet! I don't even remember them? I ran a 850 cfm center squirter on my 340 Super Stock Duster. With the auto transmission you'd think it wouldn't work but the previous owner tricked out the carb. It was so crisp when you blipped the throttle you'd swear it was fuel injection! It just flat out worked. Can't wait to see your HP numbers and time slips with the 408!
That hood looks fantastic, looks like the original steel 👌. I wonder how it looks with the T/A 6 pack setup. Looks great with tunnel ram, you can sand paper the black covers top lettering too.
It looks awesome with the tunnel ram! But I've always been a tunnel ram guy. The valve covers look good too but I like the chrome ones better. I would almost bet money that it will go faster with the tunnel ram vs a single four barrel with the new engine combination. I love those carburetors, that's what I had on my 440. My vote is for the tunnel ram with the 660 center squirters! Thanks for another great video! I look forward to seeing which rod bearing spun when you guys tear the engine apart.
If that plenum is the same as the Edelbrock SBC, those center shooters work and look trick, side mounted. You can use and access jet blocks very easily, and the float levels are easier managed. The ram/660 combo works best for response and top end, when the ram's runners are shortened as much as possible. This also has the effect of a straighter shot into the heads. Don't use any spacers/risers under the carbs; you want to keep the plenum volume small ( old school Pro Stock stuff ). Build for high RPM; the converter and gears will get the wheels up. The 408 would be nice, but there is plenty more to get from your shorter/quicker crank.
You could buy some scoop clearance by adding solid foam tape between scoop and hood , just thinking outside the tunnel looking forward to next video North of seattle. This time I went to the straights and saw your house
Tunnel ram always makes more power everywhere! They need lots of timing advance at idle and a shirt fast curve. Or with the cam I suspect you will go to, lock the timing out. Those 660 center squirters can run clean on the street, transfer slot restrictors in the main body will take care of that. Have you looked at a B3 Racing Engines rocker geometry kit? Good idea for max power and valvetrain stability. It ensures that the rocker is 90 to the valve at mid lift and minimizes sweep across the valve stem, as well as centering the roller tip.
Hi Joe! just a thought sir. If you have older lifters and they look pretty good, I would keep them. The lifters being produced out there now are junk and a lot of failures being reported. Hopefully, you are running a high zinc quality oil (I think you are if I remember your oil and filter change video). The mock up looks fantastic and pure eye candy. Thanks for sharing and cheers from Motown!
The tunnel ram looks awesome on there. With the new setup it might be ideal except for hood clearance. If you really wanted to do something crazy and unique, you could always try to find an edelbrock str-12 intake and run that. I've got an str-14 intake for a 440, and the top plates change out, so you could run six pack, single four, dominator, or dual quads. So you'd basically still have a tunnel ram, but you'd have a lot more hood clearance. Then again, that's an expensive fix for a minor problem. Haha
LOOKS GREAT WITH THE BLACK VALVE COVERS N CARBS . DID YOU KNOW YOUR ALTERNATER CAN FUCK UP YOUR TIMES AS MUCH AS .050 WHEN IT KICKLS IN TO CHARGE THEN IF IT DOESENT NEED A CHARGE IT WILL RUN .050 FASTER . WE USED TO RUN 1 WIRE ALT. AND JUMP THE BUG IN THE ALT SO IT WOULD CHARGE ALL THE TIME TOI OVER COME IT ON THE TRACK . SUPER NICE CAR !
The tunnel ram, black carburetors and black valve covers look great. And to be honest, I'm not a big tunnel ram fan. IF! you go with the tunnel RAM setup, would you plug up the giant hole in the hood and get an ram air set up going? Since the filters are right there at the same height?
Use a late 60's or early 70's 6 cly. throttle cable. They are really long. I used one on my 69 Bee RB with 6-71 blower. Looks factory! LOL! Kinda. Mopars Rule!
With the new headers you have do you happen to know what the part number is?? I have a 73 Dodge Dart sport putting together a 408 and I just went out and pulled the trigger and bought the trick flow heads like yours
You obviously know your stuff. But please keep in mind that a 408 build will not want to rpm as much as it does configured as a 360. I think you had said before that you have 4.30 gears in it, in the 1/8th mile shouldn't be a problem, but if you ever take it to a 1/4 mine you'll likely run out of rpm quick. I season race my car with a 408, happy to give opinions if you ever need.
Yes absolutely with out more head flow it won’t want the 6700 it wants now. It would have gone higher on dyno but stock crank we stopped the pulls there. I going to use a bigger cam to bridge the gap. If it peaks at 65 I’ll be happy. Till I get more head flow. Thanks for watching
Looking forward to seeing more. Ive got a pretty lazy cam in mine but im certainly out of power by 6200 rpm. By the looks of it you likely have a higher flowing set up than myself with the single plane intake. I finished my season with a broken diff coming out of a bye run in the semi finals.
So I am guessing you plan on going to a longer track. Otherwise, why the tunnel ram?? If you stay with the tunnel ram, I think I would buy a taller hemi scoop and put the most filter I could fit under it. Running without a filter is crazy and too small of a filter can cause issues as well..
glue on some rubber weather strip between the scoop and the hood and raise the scoop and hey, just because it's winter time, don't sit around and eat donuts I don't want to hear any excuses come next year I want to see this thing rip.

Yep 👍🏻👍🏻
yea and especially after the stroker kit upgrade....tunnel rams are like a big single plane... should work a lot better with 414 cubes!!

I expect the tunnel ram wold work well with your new setup, more strip than street.
