This has been an ongoing, never ending story. I grew up in Chicago, enlisted in the Marines to escape, and never went back except to visit family and friends, for a couple years. Our cities have been "killing zones" for a century and more, with no relief. I've carried a gun since 12, for this reason, left at 18, chose North Carolina to reside because there is a real culture here, one that approves of life, even with similar violence to "the great cities". Violence is the legacy of "human culture" and always has been. I wish we could choose differently.
