A darker implication is why Manny chose not to migrate is because he wanted to die during the winter storm, feeling guilty and still the grief of losing his family
Adds up considering how manny seems to move without purpose in the first half of the movie. Not interested in friends, or moving faster to get to safety. It’s like he doesn’t care if he lives or dies. A part of him had basically given up already
Fun Fact: Diego was originally going to die at the end of the movie but the scene was so sad that the kids at the test audience were actually crying, so they decided to change it up to make Diego alive since saber-toothed tigers are like cats, he has 9 lives, which actually makes sense, needless to say it’s a good choice to change up the movie
Glad they didn’t keep it. I can honestly see that they were going to have him die when I was little with the direction it was going. But I was so happy to see him coming over the rise after the baby reunited with his father. I can’t imagine Diego not being in the rest of the films, he is part of the original trio, and later on the herd.
8:32 It's heavily implied that she was too weak to move very much so she was carried off by the current and drowned. I mean she literally jumped off a high waterfall so if she didn't die right away it still probably injured her a great deal. Yeah, this franchise is known to be goofy and all but this movie in particular has some dark moments and implications when you stop to think about it.
I know it was heavily implied that, but as a child I was just as dumbfounded as Sid when she was gone. I guess at that point I was too little to understand an offscreen death.
21:25 It’s heavily implied that Manny is the father and lost his wife and child, that’s why it’s emotional and meaningful when it pans to the baby touching the drawing of his child. Signifies a deeper meaning on why Manny took the kid in
The scene where Manny sees his wife and kid get killed in the cave painting, then starts seeing the human baby as worth protecting still gets me. It's easily the best part of this film, aside from the ice slide.

Yeah, when he got Diego to grab his neck and pretend to catch him, and Sid goes "la- (ugh)", that was part of the original dialogue where he was running away from her and pretending to be captured and killed by Diego saying "I'm sorry! I love you! I lo- I lo- I lo-" before "dying." The writers originally thought it'd be funny to have a female sloth even clingier than Sid is, but scrapped it and used the rhinos instead to give him something to flee from. Ice Age is dark the more you look into it. Although we know a lot more about Sid and Diego we get to know a little bit of Manny. Manny, Sid, and Diego's dynamic was not only hilarious, but it also evolved into something really heartfelt as the story progressed. The soundtrack was another highlight for me; it beautifully complemented the storytelling and added to the emotional moments in the film. The musical score helped set the tone, whether it was a lighthearted scene or a more somber moment, enhancing the overall experience. This movie is so amazing, especially two things I like the most: First: Manny is such an incredible character: humans killed his wife and his child and he still brings a human child back to the father, just fantastic! And second: when the father gives the necklace of his wife to Manny. He gives the only thing that reminds him of his wife to the one who has brought him the most important. I don't know, but even as a kid I always found these two facts magical and just wonderful! But one thing makes me really sad, everytime I'm thinking about it (little SPOILER for the next movies): Manny won't wear the necklace in the other movies :( If he would, that would make my second favourite scene much more heartwarming!!

If anyone else is on the fence about seeing Ice Age, I highly recommend diving in-it's an adventure that you won't regret! Thank you, Disney, for this incredible gem! 🌟
This movie is so amazing, especially two things I like the most:
First: Manny is such an incredible character: humans killed his wife and his child and he still brings a human child back to the father, just fantastic!
And second: when the father gives the necklace of his wife to Manny. He gives the only thing that reminds him of his wife to the one who has brought him the most important.
I don't know, but even as a kid I always found these two facts magical and just wonderful!
But one thing makes me really sad, everytime I'm thinking about it (little SPOILER for the next movies):
Manny won't wear the necklace in the other movies :( If he would, that would make my second favourite scene much more heartwarming!!
Ayyyee this is a banger!
12:44 funny how you mentioned it because that was one of the big reasons why Dodo birds went extinct 🦤

It genuinely amazes me how you missed these gems. Glad you’re watching them now cause the animated movies from 2000-2009 were iconic! ice age is definitely a classic
