@Zap Brannigan Maybe. I noticed that too and I wish Ramsey would have asked what that meant because it could mean different things. Still, a $15,000 wedding is frivolous and I think she'd survive on $14,000 and a husband with fancy schmancy depo headlights and lowering kit 😅.

$15k for a wedding? Yikes! In a few of Dave's books he teaches us to always look for good deals. $15k for a wedding is not a good deal. Maybe I'm just cheap though.
I agree. It could be done for around 10k and still have all of the traditional things (dress, tux/suit, hair/make-up, food, cake, at least one drink a guest for the toast, music, invitations, honeymoon, venue costs, cost of priest/minister). Granted, we don't know if that 15-20k is including a nice honeymoon. It also sounds like this guy has squared away his finances enough that if they want to do a 15-20k wedding, that is their business if they save up for it. Average cost spent on a wedding now is 30k, so by that measurement, 15-20k isn't an outlandish wedding.

You see this kind of stuff is unfortunately not taught at schools and even parents struggle to teach their kids because they are financially illiterate themselves. If you plan a “big” wedding learn to invest your money, because if you have Any cash laying around, make it work for you at 7-13 percent average annual return!
Dave I'm having a wedding and I want to know the best way...
Dave: SELL THE CAR! No wedding cake, only rice and beans.
BUY MORE NICE CARS. DON'T GET MARRIED
Offer to drive to the next state and marry her FOREVER,
She might like a " Forever marriage" , rather than a wedding
Covenant marriage is a legally distinct kind of marriage in three states (Arizona, Arkansas, and Louisiana), Prior to entering into a covenant marriage, a couple must attend premarital counseling sessions "emphasizing the nature, purposes, and responsibilities of marriage" and must sign a statement declaring "that a covenant marriage is for Life."
Why is he saving up money to pay off his fiance's debt after they get married? In all seriousness, she's bringing in debt that he's willing to pay off. So, what does he get out of it? On top of that he wants to spend $20-30k on a wedding? I wish him the best.
Maybe it’s just me but I am not paying someone’s debt even if I am married. What if you do and she /he is not good with money. You need to let them feel the pain of debt to paying it first. We can pay it together but I just won’t write a big check for someone’s debt.
you don't need a huge wedding. Have an open reception and right after go on a nice honey moon to a nice island. Stop wasting money on huge weddings. it does not make sense. 15k on a wedding!!!???? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
More than half of marriages end up in divorce. He needs to get ready for the asset split, child support, and possible lifetime alimony.
Don't agree with the advice.....especially paying her off debt.
He better start saving for the divorce.
married in a registry office, picked up neighbours on way to be witnesses then back to local pub for burger and chips, cost peanuts, lovely day and very happily married ever since. why waste money on a ceremony?
Weddings are a waste of money
Don’t do it!
Just elope..much cheaper
Wow there are so many people in the comments saying if she isnt paying her debt now she wont later. When you get married the money in now joint property so it isnt "him" or "her" paying the debt it is "they." Serious conversation should be had on how to handle finances but it is joint effort, and if one person is really bad at handling money then you converse and adjust accordingly.
Your total cost should be whatever the county charges for the license. Anything over that should be invested intelligently.
Increase your income is key
Save some for pain and suffering😁
So much red pill knowledge out here, some dude never learns. He's definitely going have to paid for her student loan debt. 🤦♂️

I would take the twenty grand, bank it and elope!
Dave, I just wonder... what if you just don’t want to get married?
Answer is simple, u will be rich.
CB isme I’m married 😂 i’m just asking what if someone doesn’t want to get married, how does that work with his plan?
@@julieraymond4963 Dave Ramsey is a Christian, so not getting married is immoral unless that person plans to remain completely single.
I'm surprised Dave didn't say: "Don't have an elaborate wedding. Go to a church with 5 people from your side and 5 people from her side. Get married. Then at night, cater food and invite friends and family for a 'wedding dinner'". Should cost you no more than $3-4k. :)
Assuming $30 a plate only $360 so you are 4x over if only 10 guests
To each there own...you want to get married do it just man up to the consequences if it doesn't work out...good luck man.
So I have $6000 on car loan and owe the IRS $6000 , which one should I pay off first?
Don't get married unless you have 18years of child support funds. Be single and have 18yesrs of fun in bangkok instead..lol dude its 2020 save your life or go safe mode married rice and beans..
So paying for a wedding, a 1 day party, is more important than transportation.
No, marriage is more important.
@Brian Waller I know, and it's so terrifying when you see all these guys shelling out all these dollars to make their fiancees' Disney princess fantasies possible.
@@eizhowa Shifting the goalpost? The discussion was about the WEDDING. With most failed marriages failing due to money issues, can you explain why throwing $15,000 to satisfy the woman's Disney princess fantasy is a mandatory piece of a successful marriage when you consider that they are already in debt?
@Johnny Five Mr. Five I hope you had a humor chip installed otherwise you might want to check to see if you were struck by lightning again!
What does Dave think about engagement rings ??
I wouldn't waste money on a diamond.
I'd rather buy a unique gemstone that's hard and durable.
Lab diamonds are cheaper.
Or just design a simple ring that incorporates both of you.
You can buy engagemen ringt several years when you save more money.
If you get a diamond .80 is a nice size if affordable.
Advice?.... Don't
My wedding cost me $5,000. My divorce cost me $200,000. How’s that for a return on investment?
Free Agent Lifestyle

FaintAura Amen brother!
What a racket.
You know, I never hear single guys calling Dave Ramsey’s program. Maybe the number one source of money troubles is trying to live a “normal” life through marriage. A normal life is expensive and depressing. Let’s strive for better than normal on the happiness scale.
And..........save up for divorce lawyers and court. Really. Not a joke.
Go to Vegas they have packages you'll save a lot of money
It’s not about saving a lot of money it’s having a budget you need to stick to. If you had a daughter, would you like her to get married in Vegas and have Elvis as the pastor?
@@ErrorPagenotFound-ig1cy I have a friend that did this and it actually looked like a great wedding (I saw the video), it didn't seem especially expensive either but it could be for parents who might not want to travel for a wedding. She can always get the Disney Princess wedding the next time she gets married.
Sir We Are About to Die sure hope you don’t reproduce if that’s all you can give to your daughter.
Stephen Shelton “next time” means more $$$.
@@ErrorPagenotFound-ig1cy Not really; it's one Elvis wedding and a Disney princess weddings vs 2 Disney princess weddings.
Still, you really can't go wrong choosing Elvis no matter what topic is being discussed.
I never been married before but if you want my advice, “Don’t Get Married”. Laws in today’s world favor women in court when it comes to divorce and possessions. Don’t marry a single mother.
What about getting a prenup? Dave isn’t always against prenups...
J. Garner That sometimes doesn’t help in every situation. I’m glad I don’t have kids and a marriage cause it’s a waste of time and serves no purpose. Haven’t had a girlfriend since 2013. Pretty much some women would rather date jerks and dead beats
xbmeans, you don’t have to have kids. But your claim that other people shouldn’t be getting married isn’t making much sense to me. At least the arguments you are offering are unclear and vague. And your response to my point about prenups seemed clearly fallacious (i.e. perfectionist fallacy).
xbmeans found the incel...
xbmeans With that attitude you may not ever have a girlfriend.
Make the country Mexico pay for it?
waist of time!
Any man who gets married in 2020 is crazy....

Son, you might go broke chasing an expensive American dream if you want it this Friday.
$15k for a wedding? Yikes! In a few of Dave's books he teaches us to always look for good deals. $15k for a wedding is not a good deal. Maybe I'm just cheap though.
You are right!
I'll be seeing this guy on Terrence Popp's youtube channel in 3 years after this girl wrecks this dude to the sum of $50,000. Just wait.
Idk 😐 I’m not getting married until I have 10million usd in the bank 😝 life’s too short to worry about a one day event
So she can take 5mill after divorce?
Dave said “paying for a wedding is more important than a car”? That statement just shows Dave’s idiocy! A car is a necessity, a wedding isn’t! Smart men don’t get married!
Almost every smart man is married. How do you account for that ?
@@eelsify signing up for something that has a 50% failure rate isn't smart.

This guy is trying to do the baby steps for someone else... you can't learn to walk for another person
She needs to work on her finances and you need to work on your financial plan and goals before the marriage present that to her during the engagement process. This is life time commitment that many people don't take very serious therefore it ends in a disaster because they don't want to be alone pressured by family and friends to you ladies or even an image for social reasons. Know what you want set boundaries tell her what you want and she does the same, be logical with your thinking not emotion because you are the leader if you believe in God use him to guide you if not there's no guiding principles for you and future spouse you have to figure it out.
Don't pay for her debts. Period. End of story.
Rice or beans? No, rice and beans.

Make it a Coordinated potluck so you don’t have to pay for catering. Invitations are can be kept very simple. Buy a house and have the weeding at the house. Keep it simple.
