These old school guys are the best. Sit at the diner counter, have coffee, and hear a few stories. People forget that most of our society runs and is comfortable because of people like this.
My grandfather was one of them. He would go to the local dining in the morning for coffee and someone would know who he was and start talking about a piece of equipment that wasn't working. A few hours later, he would be looking at it to get it fixed.
Love the older guys still getting it. I also love that you have a plan to pass along your passion to those that help you. I'm trying to plan that out with my business, but the young aren't interested in working hard. I guess I'll see what happens. Selling sucks because the government gets alot of the money. Anyway, I love to see the old owners still doing what they love.

I like that axil configuration better. Way better for backing up. We don't see 7,000lb loaders out west, there 10,000 to 15,000lbs For the big ol 40 footers. Even then at 5 years old, there heavily welded on, from fatigue cracks.

Yup, he is a good man. I pay $1500-1600 a load for 14 log cords and It will turn into 30-34 face cords or 10-11 full cords of firewood that I sell for $120 a face cord or $360 a full cord plus delivery fees so about $4000ish??
He is 79 owns the company with 20something employees and works 7 days a week...7 drivers and 6 crews cutting on jobs and delivers 30-40 loads a day to the mills... lumber and paper.

some of the wood looks like it has been sitting around too long. Were these standing dead trees? If not someone has been storing them for a while. You will be able to sell seasoned wood sooner but you could get complaints from a few customers.
It is from dead standing oak which is very common for firewood here. It is THE best kind of oak wood for firewood...mostly dry already and finishes off drying fast...burns great.

Yup, the state regulates the size of the loads to 98k and yes we can do a full cord in about 20-30 minutes.
To process the really small logs efficiently you need a smaller processor. But for the $25-40k for a good one, that buys a lot of chainsaws!

He has several crews (5-7) that cut and 7-8 drivers ...they deliver over 30 loads a day to paper mills and lumber mills...so ya.

Is a log cord the same as a fire wood cord? My guess is yes...
Yes and No both are 4x4x8 but once you process a log cord you have about 2.3-2.5 face cords or 5/6 of a full cord.
I'm surprised that with all the Ash purging in the valley you are not flooded with ash trees from the tree services.
I have turned down a lot of it because I have a lot already.

I use my Kioti tractor with a grapple to move logs. An excavator is not the right tool for me, a skid steer would be a much better choice.
