Not sure how much ARGM knows about brass banding and/or Euphonium playing but his tone and technique are what make him the best. Phenomenal player!!!

This was such a cool part of the finale at Star Lake. Derick Kane was a great guest and it was great to have Peter Graham there for the final weekend.

STAR LAKE was original a march written way long before 2012.We used to play it at Pine Lake music camp in Alberta in the 1960s

This is my favorite place in the world. When I die I want to be cremated, and some of my ashes spread behind the Tabernacle at Star Lake. I would not be the person I am today without the time i spend there as a teenager.

Its nice enough, but hell if you can't play without using vibrato... you are a one-trick pony. Just too much vib.

He's one of the best euphonium players in the world. You don't have a clue what you're talking about (no offense).

I agree with Michael. Derek knows more about euphonium playing than almost anyone else He is also a modest guy who is unassuming and easy to get on with , as anyone who has met him will agree. Why can't you just enjoy his artistry?

    • @trainzandtrombones

Because the out-of-control vibrato ruins it. I disagree with it wholey. Vibrato can be extremely effective, though in this case it is evidence to the contrary. It merely appears like he's doing it for the sake of doing it with no real artistic purpose.

+ARGM its not out of control it's a style. i mean it ultimately comes down to preference of the player, but some types of music use slow, subtle vibrato, whereas happier, faster music (italian, a lot of the time) use a faster vibrato. this piece is one of the latter, and it was played accordingly.

There's much more to this piece of music than just vibrato...his tone....coordination,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how he attacks the piece. You can't say that only the virato makes a piece. If you ask me he did a real fine job,,,plus he was doing it on a stage and some were not.)just downing him)
