I am so glad that you covered this amazing monument Hugh. I have walked it several times since childhood and was even on it a few days ago during my lunch break! It is interesting that you are debating the start and end of the dyke as it originally continued on through the village of Reach, cutting it completely in half. A significant part of the dyke was removed to create space for a huge fair, licence for which was granted in 1201 by King John. The fair continues to this day (other than english civil war and covid!) though is a one day smaller event than the medieval 3 day event with parades. In this period the dyke was used as road to bring goods for export from the chalk uplands, across the boggy fen (including many horses) to the lode (roman canal) to fenland waterways, reaching the sea at King's Lynn -hence the creation of the fair.
I am so glad you mention 'Where Troy Once Stood' as I have recently read this book and have researched the subject uncovering much more than the author. It makes absolute perfect sense that Troy was originally a Celtic story that spread across Europe eventually reaching the ancient Greeks where they took as their own because my own research indicates that England was the main influence on the ancient Greeks in a number of other areas. It also backs up my research that Cambridge was the capital of England until about AD 1200 (I have uncovered a huge pile of historical evidence that shows this to be true and I cover part of it in my booklet "King Arthur of Cambridge" which shows Cambridge to be Camelot and the site of the battle of Camlan, and Ely to be be the real Isle of Avalon).

Interesting video - thanks. I noticed 'Devils Dyke' on an OS map near Swaffham, so I thought I'd have a snoop around on here (hence finding your video!) and then go and explore it for myself this weekend. I'm fascinated by the myth and legend surrounding many ancient sites - so many similar tales popping up at sites around the globe, from giants and big cats to swishes of devils tales.

What an astoundingly colosul ancient earthworks. Excellent and beautiful drone footage; gives one a glimpse of scale. Wow, very cool!

I am wondering if this and Silbury Hill were actually 'stops' for infrasound destructive waves. A site I referenced as to infrasound said that they could only be stopped by ---astonishingly --- the height and thickness of ancient walled fortresses. Could that be what eliminated our 'giant' humans on planet Earth?

I think I have read something about these long ways of the dead like when I was living in Holland, I think there is something similar close to the Hunnebedden and also something like that in Sweden?
Edit: actually I found it was in one of Megalithomania lectures also! This dodwegen? It reminds me of that th-cam.com/video/aGnP9WbiiKw/w-d-xo.html

Originally built for defence but was also used for 100s of years for getting horses from the chalk uplands to boats at Reach for export, sailing around the Isle of Ely (Mona, Avalon) to leave the river at King's Lynn.
