    "Seasick yet still docked". A favorite Morrissey song of mine.

    Hi Doug I enjoyed the longer length video very much❤

      I'm glad to hear it. The longer videos come more naturally to me. I enjoy documenting the entire day from beginning to end with all my thoughts along the way. Of course, TH-cam is not geared toward that kind of video. I think 20 minutes is more the ideal length for this type of video. I just don't know how to shoot that kind of video. 😀

    The craziest day and half traveling I had some years ago was from Rio de Janeiro to Koh Samui via London and Bangkok, two long haul flights and another short one to Koh Samui island. Can remember being in the beach of Ipanema and just 36 hours or so being on the beach of Lamai, my head was spinning 😵‍💫

      I can only imagine. It's such a weird thing to wake up on one side of the world and then end the day (or two days in your case) on the other side. It's hard to even remember all the stages you go through on a journey like that.

    Hello Dough, what camera are you using for your vlog? Thank you

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I normally use a GoPro and an Insta360 X3.
      At that time I had the GoPro Hero 9. And when I was taking video on the deck of the ferry, I was using the Insta360 X3 camera.

    Ahrrg Doug, since you shorter videos are better performing than your usual long ones i am afraid you will concentrate on the shorter version. I love your long vlogs but i would absolutely understand if you choose the shorter. And interesting fact: when i am traveling i am also always count in steps. i make a mental list of steps and then i am counting down. for example: step 1: going to the subway, step 2: going by subway to the airport, step 3: drop off luggage, step 4: security control, step 5: boarding, step 6: leaving the airplane, step 7 baggage claim :) CC

    Doug. Can you name the hotels in the video that you stayed in at Tanjung Balai and Port Dickson and the cost per night please?

      Sure. On previous trips to Tanjung Balai, I stayed at the Asahan Hotel. It's a low-budget place, and back then it cost very little. Now it seems to be a bit more expensive:
      Economy: 100,000 rupiah/night ($6.50 US) No AC, only Fan, Shared Bath
      Standard: 225,000 rupiah/night ($14.50 US) Aircon, Private Bathroom
      Based on my memory of the conditions at the Asahan, that is too expensive. It's not good value anymore, and I don't think I would recommend it.
      On this trip, I stayed at the fancy Grand Singgie Hotel:
      Standard Room: $25/night
      Superior Room: $32/night
      Deluxe Room: $38/night
      For a backpacker's budget, the Grand Singgie Hotel is expensive and probably not worth it. They offer things like a fitness room, which I would never use. It's more like a real hotel. But for someone on a holiday, it's probably good value.
      When I was looking at the various hotels online, I thought the Hotel Malahayati was the best value. The problem is that it is a couple of kilometers outside of downtown. You can find it easily on Google Maps:
      maps.app.goo.gl/EgLSRJohdHpvyZRG8
      In Port Dickson, I stayed at the Sea Front Hotel. Rooms there range from 75 ringgit to 120 ringgit per night ($16-$25). With taxes and fees, the final prices are more like 95 ringgit to 140 ringgit ($20-$30).
      Bu those prices are on Agoda. And I was told that they would no longer accept reservations made through Agoda. And the prices on Traveloka and other sites are significantly higher. I think you can find much better deals than the Sea Front now.

    Douglas, Are U aware there are a lot of pirates in the sea You are crossing? A million to one shot but ....

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be honest, no, I hadn't heard any stories of pirates in the Malacca Strait. I remember coming across stories of modern-day pirates in various places, such as off southern Philippines. But nothing in this area.
