This is every harpists "rite of passage" and this performance is the best I've heard. The use of string quartet is the key. Originally, it would be a large string ensemble with gut strings, which are quieter. Also, having the cello pizzicato the first movement is great - though he could have been a tiny bit more forte. The p.d.l.t. work is terrific. The cadenza is the best one I've heard. It is so much more appropriate than the Salzedo and other modern ones.
The first time I heard this concert must have been about 30 years ago and I fell in love with the harp. Still it's one of my favourite concerts. I thought playing harp would be to difficult so I continued playing piano and singing but lately I've become more interested again, partly thanks to you Joel. So who knows.
