The piano score / sheet music to Nicola Porpora's Cello Concerto in G major. I: Amoroso - 00:00 II: Allegro - 4:56 III: Largo - 9:42 IV: A tempo giusto - 13:16 Performer(s): • Nicola Porpora: Concer...
That's really lovely. Porpora's talent for melody and voice really shows in the slow parts. The vocal style writing is in part moved across to lyrical writing for the cello.
During their life, Porpora and Haendel hardly compete in the opera domain. Now, this dispute is over. Music lovers have a reasonable knowledge of Haendel's instrumental works, but Porpora is completely forgotten. That is a pity indeed. Among other gems, the series of his cello concertos - we can here hear one of them- is indeed a notable contribution to the baroque cello concerti - which Bach, Haendel and more generally German baroque composed none - composers - a genre quite innovant, which diverted the cello from its usual use as a dedicated continuo instrument. Needless t say, Bach was aware of the interest o the instrument: his six solo cello suites are the apex of the cello literature. 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Thanks for this, Porpora’s music is so beautiful but sadly unknow, I would like if you can post a video with the score of “Giusto amor, tu che m’accende” by Porpora too, from the serenata “Gli orti esperidi”, which mix voice plus cello and basso continuo, a lovely combo. Please

Thank you for introducing me to Nicola Porpora’s music! The first movement in particular feels like a cross between the styles of Bach and Corelli.
Thank you.
I hope you have a healthy and happy summer.

"The apex..."
So absurd.

Thanks for sharing! Do you have his Magnificat? The lesser known one with SATB.
If it isn't on IMSLP / CPDL, I don't have it
