The 4th gen Quest was sold in Japan as the ELGRAND. We owned the previous generation (E51) ELGRAND in Japan and can clearly see some of the mechanicals that carried over from the 3rd gen in Japan into into our 4th gen here in America. Overall, it’s a very good van!
Great review. I have owned a 2015 Quest for a few years. It's been very easy to maintain and has had no mechanical failures. There was a problem with the tires: After I bought the car, I eventually took off the tires and discovered the tire side facing towards the interior was cracked. After I replaced the tires, this never happened again. So I suspect that when the car was sold as new, the tires were inferior. I've had no safety issues. It drives great and is very easy to handle, more so than any other large vehicle I've driven. Those qualities make it safer in my opinion. The transmission works great, it provides a lot of power whenever needed and it doesn't lurch forward because the gearing is gradual. I've maintained the minivan really well, including flushing the transmission fluid as specified in the manual. With the cargo space in the back, its been very versatile. The front passenger seat also I've used it to transport 4' x 8' plywood, and even 10' 2 x 4's. I haven't run into a situation where I wish I had my old F150 back, meanwhile my family uses this every day and they wouldn't all fit in a truck.
October 30, 2022 - A Nissan CVT lawsuit alleges 2019-2021 Nissan Pathfinder and 2019-2021 Infiniti QX60 vehicles are equipped with defective continuously variable transmissions. The class action lawsuit alleges the Nissan vehicles jerk, shake, hesitate, lurch and stall due to the transmissions. According to the two owners who filed the CVT lawsuit, the Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles are unreliable and dangerous to drive. The lawsuit alleges owners complain their vehicles suffer serious delays in accelerating from a stop and while in motion. Owners claim the vehicles don't respond as the drivers press the gas pedals, yet drivers can hear the engines rev as the vehicles lose forward motion. The class action alleges the CVTs have had severe problems for more than 10 years, but Nissan hasn't recalled the vehicles. The problem has allegedly been so bad that in December 2013, Nissan's CEO announced the automaker would increase its oversight of transmission supplier JATCO. The CVT problems were affecting profits, but the vehicles allegedly continued to suffer CVT problems. Even with a record of CVT problems, Nissan allegedly hasn't offered suitable repairs or replacements and hasn't offered to reimburse customers. The class action lawsuit further alleges Nissan dealers routinely tell customers the transmissions are performing normally. Once the warranty expires, a Nissan owner is allegedly then told of CVT problems and forced to pay for repairs. Nissan has issued multiple technical service bulletins about CVTs that could suffer from metal debris trapped in the radiators, cooling hoses and external CVT fluid coolers. The debris can contaminate the transmissions, control valves and torque converters, and the debris can block the flow of fluid which damages the transmissions. The Nissan CVT lawsuit was filed by Timothy Ross who purchased a new 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, and Kayla Klein who purchased a used Nissan Pathfinder. Both plaintiffs reside in Massachusetts. The Nissan Quest up until 2002 or 2003 was awesome you just had to make sure you change the timing belt I put three hundred thousand miles on three different ones
they did sold these in japan and other asian countries, but with different exterior looks and name. it was called the nissan elgrand, the autech version is the top of the line model.
The back up camera does not beeps either when in close proximity to objects in reverse. It will if you buy the more expensive models but the base model...or SV which I have does not beeps you still have to watch out.
We have a 2016 quest. Overall we like it and agree with what you stated. One other thing worth mentioning is tire size. Van has smaller tires that other vans which makes the wear faster because of the weight of a van.
I have a 2014 Quest and I actually really like it overall. It handles well, drives well, it's pretty powerful so it accelerates fairly quickly. But I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The things I don't like about it are that it has gigantic blind spots and of course safety. I never really feel safe in it as a passenger or a driver. It's hard to see out of, it's large, and I just can't really relax in it. If I had to rate it out of 5 stars, I'd give it a 3 or 3.5 overall.
I have a 2013 Quest bought new. In a lot of ways it is more practical than other minivans and the interior is far nicer. The one complaint is the OEM tires that came with it. Horrible traction and quick wearing. Once we got new tires it's been a better vehicle.
That's probably why he was able to slip through Japanese security so easily. No one bothered to lift the cover because the assumed there was absolutely **no way an adult could fit in there** and the rest is history with Ghosen getting the last laugh. I would consider one of these, I don’t have kids, not married, but I’m into triathlons and sometimes it’s cheaper to sleep in your car when traveling for different events. I wonder if it’s powerful enough to haul a Mini Cooper 😊( my car) Probably I would change those rims…if the mini van is made in Japan that’s a huge thing in my opinion from the reliability stand point. I am not necessarily a Nissan fan because of past experience, but I do appreciate your objectivity though. Ironically the Nissan Quest cost as much as the Toyota and Honda yet is lacking in certain features as noted in your video. That crash test scares me...no thanks.

This is the most unsafe vehicle out there. If it gets in a crash, the whole dashboard comes forward, and the front seat occupants would be super lucky to ever walk again.
@@jonathantheyorkie true, but that would simulate a moderate overlap test, and the 2014 Quest passed that test. The small overlap test simulates a car going into a tree or pole.
CVT's have have a spotty track record across brands. If you drive smoothly and change fluids in most cases they will last a very long time. Rebuilds are more costly because most transmission shops can't and have to send them to a remanufacturer that specializes in CVT.
Greg the Csr Angle got this review 100% correct; I choose Not to purchase rhe Nissan Quest because of the horrible and terrifying Front Crash safety rating.
This is the worst vehicle ever made. Bought the van brand new in 2013, already had to replace the transmission $4100. And Numerous of other repairs. I would rate the van a 0. It is cheaply made, after replacing the transmission, the same week, the passenger door would not open because the lock jammed on it.
Nissans have nothing but trouble so the CVT engines and ever since they merged with Renault in the 2000s they've gone down Hill their engines don't last and their transmissions are horrible

The E51 is good but this gen is not good because of the problematic CVT.

0:36 you're kinda right, but it wasn't the Windstar, it was the Mercury Villager. The Windstar was a different minivan, it was bigger than the Quest.

Crash test results was similar to the "Smart Car" which has a fold up handle on the roof to carry the remains away in an accident.
The CVTs still has lots of issues on this model.

I bought one (2013) from auction. I did have to put new transmission in but for $3k for the van I’m not complaining

I would never buy if. Safety should be no1 priority for a family vehicle.

You are not even mentioning the pioneer of mini vans. Caravan looks better and more practical on inside. More power also.
