- In this episode we look back at the 2-2 draw with Man City on Sunday, discussing the early stages of the game in which the home side dominated, before we talk about the moments that changed the game.
Rodri's injury seemed to spark Arsenal into life, and we scored twice through Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel to go 2-1 up, before another contentious red card decision saw us play the second half with 10 men. We chat about that sending off, the heroic defensive effort, the late equaliser, and whether or not this game signified a shift in the rivalry between the two sides. Then there are questions about Myles Lewis-Skelly, our potential Carabao Cup team, David Raya, Gabriel Jesus and lots more.

Man City celebrating a draw at home to 10-man Arsenal is okay. But when Arsenal do it, it's over the top and out of order? Effing media.
It feels like a long time since we faced 10 men or were given any advantage by a ref really.
Man city celebrating a draw at home to a side down to 10 men, tells you a lot about where we're at right now.
The fact we’re so disappointed we didn’t beat ‘the best prem league team ever’ with 10 men really says alot. I wasn’t actually that stressed during the game as their attacking play was so painfully predictable for 53 minutes of that second half. The second we give them space, and we get punished. They never get the draw if we have 11 men
Not to sound too conspiratorial, but the NBC pundits showed no hesitation in slamming the referee's decision so I can only assume the english media have some reason to avoid ref criticism.
It seems pretty obvious to me based on how consistently they avoid talking about decisions
The English broadcast had ROY KEANE (of red card fame) calling out Trossard for getting sent off. These pundits are conforming with this terrible officiating simply because they don’t have anything interesting to add to the footballing conversation.
@miniman2132 no, its because they know the cost of going against the grain
Goldbridge says PGMOL meets with English media pundits and commentators biweekly to shape narratives and not blame refs
@@ronaldtrinidad3270 didn’t hear that - did MG evidence
@@briansmith975 No, he was only to telling the livestream audience
Califiori's goal had a touch of 'Robert Pires' about it, the way he used very little back lift ❤
Yes it did. His long hair and good looks also helps
💡
Surprised to hear names like Vermaelen, that califiori goal had Pires all over it
@@housinauthority5258 and chiselled features 👀
Looking at both incidents frame-by-frame, there were 1.07 seconds between the whistle hitting Oliver’s mouth and Trossard making contact with the ball. By contrast, there were 1.13 seconds between Oliver’s whistle and Szoboszlai’s kick.
So Szoboszlai had slightly more time to react, yet Oliver decided not to punish him, only showing a yellow to the Arsenal player.
That Calafiori goal was so nice. It didn't even look like he really put his foot through it. t's almost like a little dink; but from long range, with decent power. A joy to watch. Here's hoping for more.
the man can clearly strike a ball. might be a b grade italian becks
Gary Neville trying to create an agenda and a narrative when there was nothing there once again as well. Literally a body to body collision between Rodri and Kai Havertz and Rodri goes down holding his face like he’s taken a bullet to the eye. And Neville going “OOOOOHHH could there be a card here?”!
The absolute worst commentator/pundit on TV.
Then there’s the ridiculous red card for Leandro Trossard. If Michael Oliver is “England’s best referee”, then we’re in the fucking shits. Jeremy Doku blantantly kicked the ball away about 20 minutes earlier, delaying the restart. No booking. And there’s the fact that Trossard was sent off 2 minutes after the 6 minutes of added time had elapsed.
You could actually argue that Bernardo Silva moving the ball forward after the foul on Thomas Partey was, in itself, delaying the restart, and therefore, a yellow card. Every single City player that accosted the referee after we equalised should have been booked, and that includes Kyle Walker. As the captain, he should have controlled his players and ushered them away. Ruben Dias should have got a second yellow for getting in the referee’s face for over a minute later in the game. And Erling Haaland should get a retrospective red card for intentionally throwing the ball at the back of Gabriel’s head. Roy Keane got sent off for doing the same thing to Alan Shearer years ago. It’s unprofessional conduct and endangering the safety of an opponent. I guarantee you if an Arsenal player did it, action would have been taken.
Michael Oliver completely and utterly lost control of this game early on, and wasn’t up to the task thereafter. No one wants to see players get sent off for what Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard got sent off for. Just use a bit of common sense; a stern word is more than sufficient.
In the Champions League in midweek, the players were the main attraction and the referees were the in the periphery, as they are supposed to be, keeping a lid on things and letting the game flow. In the Premier League, it’s a completely different story. They openly embrace the spotlight and go out of their way to look for opportunities to make themselves the main attraction. It’s ruining the game, and the way Howard Webb polices PGMOL enables it. For those who say “Well, the rules are the rules”, fuck the rules. The rules need to change.
Absolutely nobody asked for this.
Sky Sports must have a shared sponsorship with PGMOL
The PGMO are paid by the UAE and manky115 are owned by the same , so that lot and their limitless money are behind this situation 100% .
Whether manky115 are found guilty or not of all the charges against them . The prem has to leave and set up a new top division WITHOUT manky115 or their northern based pgmo . Especially in view of - get this - Uefa telling the British govt they can't have an independent regulator of football. I'm all for leaving this fiasco and ditching all international competitions. If the incompetent FA dont like it then clubs ditch them as well.
Facts
🔴 According to opta stats the ball was in play for 35 minutes in the second half . The most for a single half of football this season. However the Officials found 9 minutes of stoppage time. Where did the extra 2 minutes come from? It was originally 7 minutes and Neville said "oh they have added an extra 2 more minutes." Shocking! Also City celebrating a draw against 10 men Arsenal at HOME is funny. 🔴
A record amount of ball-in-play and they add 9 minutes.. it's another area that they are just making it up as they go along. Because they want man city to win, they find a way to interpret events in the way they want to. It may be subconscious. Because those refs want to make sure they keep getting work out in the UAE where they are being paid a lot more than the premier league. It's bribery and I can't believe it's being allowed to happen
Wow!
Even with the dumbass excuse that Arsenal was wasting time going to the floor. I swear these lot don’t have any branch to hang by
You don't need a stop clock. The rules are already written to remove time wasting etc. All you need is match officials that aren't bent or stupid.
Sadly we appear to have refs who are both...
@@adamking2998🤣🤣
Obvious bias when city plays is clear, city NEVER gets that decision, its clear that money paid to Oliver in Abu Dhabi is affecting him wanting that job again, there no conspiracy, just people paying big checks to people who have direct effect on games and results. If you look at what type of penalties City got last season, Arsenal NEVER gets those, softest of the soft. Something is up and its clear that last season and this season both Liverpool and Arsenal get a real strange circumstances week to week with decisions that get stranger and stranger to the point where people who never had thoughts of conspiracies are starting to murmur. People say refs are inconsistent...well they are Always consistent when city plays, i promise you that. Rodri has been getting away with yellows and red cards for years.
Sick as a dog.
Good result in the long run but fuck me that was rough
This game was a triumph, every Arsenal player deserves immense respect and one of the best results has been, the WHINING from City players and Guardiola massively losing his cool. They are worried, and rightly so. Well done chaps a superb collective performance.
So sick of getting fucked over by refs against Man City but we did brilliantly to get a point. Coyg
What if it were Wenger “kicking the shit” out of that chair after the Calafiori goal they would be talking about it non stop on sky sports calling for retrospective action, mark my words
At what point do we look to Howard Webb and acknowledge that since he took over it's all gotten worse
RODRI OUT FOR THE SEASON!!
Watching Arsenal Women draw City 2-2 at the Emirates a couple hours before Arsenal Men draw City at the Emptyhad really had me stressing on edge all day.
its getting harder and harder to watch games with the level of officiating, fans need to put the tribalism aside and actually look at what happening with open eyes for once.
Delaying restart should be a punishable offence. But the ref needs to able to use discretion. Give the player a warning and if it happens again, then yeah, in the book you go. But to have a zero-tolerance policy like this when it's not even consistently applied amongst players and teams feels incredibly unjust.
If we conceded the equalizer at 55 minutes instead of 98, it would be a mighty victory
I remember amazing games during the 90s and 2000s where the game was so exciting and pure. The impact these refs are having on what can be classic games to remember for years to come is a travesty. The consequences compared to the crime are imbalanced. Let the boys play and let the fans enjoy the beautiful game.
You nailed it - the consequences do not match the 'crime'. There should be a serious conversation about sin bins. Kicking the ball away can be considered an offence but let's say the punishment is a 5 minute sin bin. That makes so much more sense
I remember growing up watching 80's and 90's football and everybody moaning about the refs - hence we ended up with VAR
@@housinauthority5258 VAR is a good idea, it is implemented in a terrible way. The way VAR is used and not used in certain situations baffles me. Might as well go back to before VAR. I believe that champions league had a pretty good handle on it which Arteta mentioned last year about how amazing the technology was being used to show offsides quickly compared to the 5 minute line drawing in the EPL.
@@AndyLowe-nettrue, sin-bin could have been appropriate for this, city would have taken 5-10 mins man advantage
That last minute dagger killed me - I’m still hurt man ffs
Well , in May when we are champions for the 14th time I'm predicting a full recovery 😉👍
I'll give you a red card - that two footed Lisandro Martinez challenge. Not even a yellow??
I'm as proud as I am hurt by that late goal.... and I was proud of the brilliantly executed (so-called) dark arts which we have now mastered and apply as well as the other big boys... do you agree?
I think you are downplaying the Haaland's ball throw at Gabriel. It was a clear case of unsportsmanlike behaviour and he should have been punished for it, at least after the game, if not during.
I honestly believe that Michael Oliver was going to send an Arsenal player off regardless, if you can send a player off for briefly touching the ball away then you can send a player off for anything,. Arsenal were always going to have a man sent off if things were going south for city... he's on the City pay roll after all
You know, I have a little pet theory about the PGMOL "directives" at the beginning of each season: they're always in response to some public outcry, and I think the point of these directives, over-enforced and then dropped as they always are, is that the refs are going, "LoOk, dOn'T yOu SeE hOw MuCh WoRsE tHiS iS???!!!"
Exactly. Last season they used VAR atrociously just to distract people from the good that it could bring and now it's toothless, barely even used. They keep tweaking things unnecessarily so that once there's an outcry and they go back on their decision, people think that their usual incompetence is a blessing to have and there's no way we can get anything better than that. They keep insulting our intelligence and we fall for their bait
Haaland throwing the ball at Gabriel is not a VAR check of any kind?
Of course not. Bruno elbowing Jorginho in the head from behind is legal so what's a ball
They checked it and cleared it. IMO it should have been yellow, but that was also like the third or fourth thing he should have been booked for
You guys are there first ones to mention that the time between the whistle blow and Trossards kick was less than a second. I rewatched it and stopped the time. It was between 0,5 and 0,7 seconds. It is impossible that he stopped in that time because he made the decision to clear the ball before he heard the whistle. It’s a scandalous decision.
Was watching the game on a Spanish speaking station and they were saying that Myles Lewis-Skelly might be gone if he got a yellow in the game and I was wondering why was that? I didn't know that he was the player who got the yellow on the bench.
It amazes me the ref doesn't even give a single warning for such a pointless rule - straight to the red card.
To be fair to Neville he did say nobody was asking for this rule change last season and that the punishment is too sever, ruining games. I agree too, despite what James said, kicking the ball away was not a big problem or contributor to the game management problems. It was fake injuries and stoppages.
I like the idea of the clock stopping when the ball is out of play, ref blows the whistle, and goals
Lewis-Kelly did very well , watching him defending the last line was top stuff.. he was very physical in holding the line..a top prospect
Who knows final results in parralel universe but we have dropped 4 points from unnecessary second yellow cards. And its 5 games in. How can we win the league .
You shouldn't wish injury on anyone 😂. But its hilarious Rodri out for season getting that rest he has been bleating on about 😂. Pep backs him. Pep totally responsible for overplaying him lol. ❤
🤣🤣
Lewis Skelly win the crowd moment
deserves a goódly morning gent❤ Arsenal till I die
Ben White has a knee injury and wasn't supposed to play but had no choice
Referees are consistent at being in-consistent !!!!
Calafiori and Timber may become first choice fbs.
Neville is tactical genius. Ask about it in Spain 😂
why is no one mentioning it was after added time for 1st half, that Trossard got the second yellow... that whistle could (& should) have been for THE END OF THE HALF... ffs
I think The purpose of calafiori signing wasn't to shore up defence, it was about adding another dimension to our attack. he can keep the ball and pick a pass under pressure unlike Gabriel. Gabi has been brilliant but truth be told he looks good when we park the bus but he is terrible when pressed. In the first 20 minutes city prayed on that weakness.
Our build up and midfield fluidity will be a lot better as partey will get someone alongside him to play intercate one touch quick passes.
If there's a sliding scale with incompetence on one side and corruption on the other....... it has moved for me emphatically towards corruption..... how can it not be when certain referees are paid 25k to referee a game for Man City's owners. A very sad indictment on the premier league that they allow this corruption / suspicion of corruption.
We need micro punishments in football, 5 minute sin-bin for kicking the ball away, it's fine. Then the punishment is the same if you do it in the 10th minute of the 80th.
For some reason when you suggest sin-bins a lot of people are disgusted as if you've just puked in their face. But it's not a major change to the game, it would just make officiating easier as they can actually punish small things without having to go to the extremes of yellows and reds
It's a nice tough to have James' "Lez do dis" shirts in the show animations 👌🏽
This reminds me of the league cup semi v Liverpool. Xhaka sent off early . Hung on. Gave the team belief that they can compete with that team . Yeah they lost the 2nd leg but that was the turning point v them
Let’s not forget the first Trossard yellow was for the tiniest of shirt tugs.
The Arsenal endorphins that run through my veins when I hear the intro ❤️
81 minutes and not a single "Michael Oliver is a wanker" or variation thereof. I am disappoint.
Love being the 100th like 👍🏾
This is the first Ive heard about a Ben White injury. What is the source for this? I honestly thought that was a tactical change, saw nothing about it anywhere.
Arteta post match said Ben W had “small injury”.
I'm so proud of our players. After a DIABOLICAL referereeing performance (yet again) that was riddled with inconsistent calls, plus the injuries to key players like Martin Odegaard, the deck was MASSIVELY stacked against us and we STILL took points off the champions in the league. Screw this rhetoric that Arsenal played "cowardly", we adapted to make the worst out of a very dire situation. This team adapts, meanwhile Ctiy's team complains. I could not be prouder of the Arsenal.
Can someone find how much money These refs make from Saudi league ?
There is no need for Raya vs bolton. Neto has enough experience
Neto is cup-tied
Refs have already cost us the league
I would bet my house on Gabriel getting a card if he throws ball into Haaland head next game lol. Got to do it but check ref not looking. Be brilliant and wind the Viking clown 🤡 up no end.
Players called over after 2 bad challenges by City players so got what they deserved 😂.
Rodri and De Brunye may well have made difference but who cares 😮
This should be spicy
That was really dumb from Trossard TBH. It was dissent and time wasting in one move
No it wasn't.
he was facing away from the ref! How could it be dissent
From the time the whistle went to when he kicked the ball was so close. Plus I feel like footballers kicks away the ball or picks it up after a foul almost as a reflex. That’s where refs should use common sense
Pass to Martinelli

First. That's still cool right?
Still? It was dumb in 2006 and it's still dumb.
Letter of the law vs. he didnt wanna ruin the game 😂
35:04 My comment got mentioned lol that's funny
A good point, there's any number of alternatives solutions
41:13 my apologies to James... 😂 nailed it
The reason pogmol have brought this rule in is to be able to dictate games according to who they want to win the league it’s pretty obvious to see
17:20 Sol Campbell against Portsmouth away to keep the Invincible season going; that one does it for me.
