Indian Coffee House or College Street Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency University in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House in Kolkata which was made by Britishers. It has been for a long time a regular hang out and a renowned meeting place (adda) for intellectuals and students of the Presidency College, University of Calcutta, and other institutions in College Street. It has played an important part in Calcutta's (Kolkata) cultural history and known as the hub of intellectual debates. This Indian Coffee House was established in April 1876 around 147 years ago.
The place became a meeting place for poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. The indian coffee house is famous for its adda sessions, and as the breeding place of several political and cultural personalities and movements.

Everything was alright except it's open allowing of cigarette smoking at such a public place.. I visited this place last few years back when, by the law of the country, smoking was prohibited and made a punishable offense within such premise.. I failed to understand that how this coffee house was still allowing such violation of law.. Kolkata administrative authorities must be strict on them to refrain them from such wrong doing on a priority so that this excellent intellectual property must not defame our beloved city of Kolkata as an example of illegitimate breach of norm.. Please ignore my message if smoking within the coffee house has been stopped by now...
