Your point about Asian Snow White is exactly what I thought of. Change the Snow White setting from Germany to Japan, make them all Japanese, make the dwarves yokai or part yokai, make the prince a samurai. That's way more interesting anyway. P.S. We already have two Asian SWs, Kristen Kreuk, and Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs which is a Korean movie and SW and her prince are modeled after Kpop idols. It can be done
That dress was meant for a child in the original version, if i remember right. Like, she fled the castle as a preteen and would have been not even legal (like 16 or 17) when the prince comes for her. Her design looks fine if it's on a youth, but the moment you put it on an adult it fails. The biggest silhouette issues i see are: her face is too long/adult for the haircut; the dress is too short in the bodice area for the time period and her age making her look either childish or like the designers had the wrong lengths; the flare of the skirt from the bodice is too sharp, leading to a poof that's almost the same width the whole way down instead of getting more volume, which can make her seem like she is flat and straight as a board and thus supposed to be childish; back to the bodice, the area in the front that would normally be a busk or modesty panel is far too wide and so the top itself has too straight of seams because of it; the puff sleeves are either too wide and the right length, or too short but the right width. Overall, she looks like a cartoon compared to the world around her in color and design. This could be fixed to look more normal if we see the kingdom uses bright colors and those kinds of designs elsewhere, but from what's in the trailer she looks very out of place. And by the kingdom using colors, i mean avoiding bare stone and lack of decorations and toned down colors on things; if you look at korean period dramas, you can see the world is already so colorful in the cities even if poorer people wouldn't be able to have bright silks, so you don't feel weird seeing someone in bright colors and cuts.
On the topic of race swapping, i would say something like rodger and hammerstein's cinderella did it well (as in, race didn't matter at all during casting that i recall, so you could look at the royal family and just go "yup, i can believe this"). But what disney does feels malicious. I'll use little mermaid as an example since i think i remember enough about it. Triton having each child be a different race makes him a player, especially since there are no mothers around. None of the kids look like each other but are around the same age so the only thing you can assume is they were from different mothers all pregnant around the same time. This is because race matters everywhere else in the movie and they have next to no screen time. Disney is afraid of having a light skinned princess with a dark skinned prince, so you really only see the her being swapped and marketed while the guy tends to still be white. Disney goes for the whitest non-whites possible. Like if you have a lineup of 20 really good actresses, it's like they hold up a piece of paper to each and take the one with the most similar shade. And then they don't let them use their own hair or light them properly most of the time (a complaint someone who understands hair types and cinema lighting better than me has said regarding a number of these disney live action remakes) It's kind of like when you turn on any random kdrama the male lead looks pretty much the exact same as all the other male leads in any other kdrama because that's the current "in" look
I agree with everything that you just said I mean, leave the characters the way that they’re supposed to be and I’m gonna say something else and this is my opinion. @@Leamichellefan2244 I would say bailey's biggest problem as ariel is that she doesn't seem to have theater training. Or another early example of race swapping was the cartoon Happily Ever After Fairytales for Every Child. Snow White is retold with Native Americans. Princess and the Pea is Korean. Beauty and the Beast is African. What is snow white fighting for? I think it would be interesting to see her fight come from her needing to live and survive, she helps the dwarves to repay them and such. She should be getting her hands dirty- especially if shes a girl boss, show us how strong she is, what makes her not just a boss, but a leader, someone for kids to look up to. Not someone who tells people what to do, show us she knows what shes doing. Tiana had skill, a passion, Merida has skill and is strong in what she doesn't want. Mulan had a goal, and the fighting spirit. She made mistakes, but didn't give up. Maybe it's because i haven't seen snow white in forever, but what is her fighting spirit and passion for?
I wouldn't say Snow White was a fighter so much, as she was a meek and gentle soul - which I'm all for, because girls like that exist and need to be remembered too. Because the thing is, even if she's not the type to pick up a sword and fight, she wasn't weak either. Her kindness was her strength, and she wasn't afraid to work either. Her spirit was the sort that could be greatly scared, terrified and alone, but could pull herself back together and make the best of her situation. She was the sort who would offer to work for her room and board, not just be dependent on charity (and then be plain old rude and ungrateful about it like snow tan). Her strength was a quiet strength, to stay kind even when the world is cruel - something she and Cinderella shared, for the record - and I personally respect that a lot more than those who leap to aggressive response as seems to be the norm anymore. They’re probably trying to make this more like a Renaissance film. Dang it. I was expecting a real dwarven people to play the roles of the seven dwarves! I swear, this live action abomination or whatever snow white alternative universe this is is a disgrace! 😩😤
Great video! Rachael Ziegler should’ve not play Snow White because her attitude is so smug, rude, and condescending. In the OG Snow White, she was kind, sweet and motherly. She does not need to be a girl boss. Plus, that leaked clip is just so bad. Also I hate whenever people re make a musical they put auto tune in it and it is getting tiring.
For some reason i want to see snow white waking up by herself and sing sit still look pretty when the prince wants to wake her up
Do not let Rachel Zegler‘s army of bots lie to you and say that she can sing like Adriana Caselotti because she can’t and the fact that they’re trying to use Westside story as a reference point which failed by the way is lame and pathetic because she was a terrible excuse for a soprano in that movie Cannot do what Adriana Caselotti did she can and I’m not the only person who has this opinion I can promise you that.
Exactly! She is full of auto tune. Everybody else in West Story sings better than her.
@@jonelrobinson7432 exactly thank you I don’t know why people wanna sit here and say oh she’s got this amazing voice. I’ve heard clips of her where she’s singing in plays and she’s got awful.
Her dress looks CGI. WHY?!
Disney is about to Tank Disney for good. They should never have cast her!
12:15 are you kidding? they are extremely muted and look dull. It's like someone sucked all life out of the scene
The colors on the dress look a lot more saturated out of that lighting. (such as the leaked photos)
@@jhannisseworld the dress only maybe. Everything else looks like a dark-brown filter was applied to it. Peter Pan and Wendy had the same problem, the movie was too dark and it was hard to see what's going on.
@@TabalugaDragon Oh yes, definitely. But I was only referring to the dress at that part.
13:30 - I do feel like it was done on purpose bc everyone on the set got sick of the lead being annoying and bossy, so someone decided to do a veeery subtle revenge 🤭
