    Cardio not becoming a limiting factor on 20 rep squats was inspiring. I train bodybuilding but if I’m ever doing high rep squats or pause squats, my heart rate is through the roof 15 reps in. Shows we can all learn something from the different disciplines and training styles

      I regularly go straight barbell for a 100 reps, no putting the barbell down during rest periods. I can usually smash it out in around 9-10 mins. Get a killer leg/back workout and cardio all in one, on good days I'll add 10-15 lbs 😁

      I am a non elite powerlifter and I could easily do 185x20 multiple times in a workout. It would take a toll on my cardio but nothing crazy. 225-255 lbs would really push my cardio to the limit or beyond. But again, I don't really train cardio except for a 5k run maybe every month.

    Can we get more CrossFit + RP strength videos like this???!!! Best video maybe ever! May most favorite forms of fitness and GOATS within them rolled into one video is FIRE!!!! I have to watch this again.
    Question: do you really only train one target muscle per session with 2 workouts like that? My RP template has me doing like 8 movements!!! I don’t go hard enough but that’s due to time constraints mostly. How long did it take them to complete all of those reps!!!!

  • @robertt9342
    @robertt9342 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not too dissimilar from the squats I was doing, but I was only doing 4x15 reps. Slow down, pause, explosive, up. The weight under the heel seems like a good add for me. Just needed squat rack so I didn’t have to lift the weight over my head for every set. I would combine this with the same barbell and do 30 lunges between the squat sets.

    Dumb question... does it really pays off to wear a belt for these "low" weight high reps series on squats? I personally do not do it, neihter miss it when going +8 /10 reps, but happy to be talked into doing it if there is any advantage

    • @perman07
      @perman07 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would argue it's better with a belt in most instances. The main advantage of going beltless is lower fatigue from lower weights and lower force output. But you can gain that same advantage by just using belts at the same lower weight.
      The more normally cited pro of going beltless is something like "training your core better". This one is bogus, because EMG shows higher activation for your core with belts. Maybe certain small muscles work harder while beltless, but primarily a belt allows your core to work harder by providing resistance your stomach can contract against (like how you can contract your biceps harder with a dumbbell than without one).
      So overall you just get higher force output in the prime movers of the legs because their not limited by the core, although with greater fatigue.
      I would argue the main reason to go beltless is for a lighter workout with lower fatigue because of lower force output, but this shouldn't be a commonly chosen variation. More like a 3rd or 4th squat slot.

    • @JD83000
      @JD83000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wear a lightweight neoprene belt like he's wearing for high rep squats. For me is more a mental thing as it just reminds me to brace and keep my core tight, rather than adding much support or pressure.

    • @amorfati4927
      @amorfati4927 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s all about what your goal is.
      Chances are you can get more out of a belt. More reps or same reps with higher reps. It takes a factor out of the situation.
      Are you trying to train your quads or are you trying to build your lower back? If you’re trying to maximum quad growth then a belt is going to help your core/lower back being the limiting factor.
      Same idea when you start talking about grips. Is the goal to gain strength/muscle size or do some of that but make your grip better? You can do both but you won’t maximize strength/muscle size if you’re letting grip be a variable.

    Not really surprising because while we might not like the form on moves like kipping pull-ups, it is obvious that the people in CrossFit competitions are in incredible shape. Their workouts are blends of weight lifting and calisthenics, so they're used to high rep/low rest sets.

    I used to be into Crossfit back in '08-'09. I watch the games still. I remember weighing 165 and deadlifting 400lbs. I think I could run around a 6 minute mile and was mid-30s in age. It is cool to see an older familiar name (Rich) get with RP who I just recently started following. The last few years I got sucked into ultra marathoning, dealing with some shit and enjoy the scenery. Now, I am getting back into strength. I find I can barely get my hands on the bar (even wide grip) to do squats! How do I get my shoulders to loosen up? I doubt I am putting my chest up either, even just the bar, so it's not a strength issue. Love the humor too @RP.

      Often times you’ll see an EMOM come in for a workout. Every Minute On the Minute. So, do the set and then use whatever amount of time left in a minute to rest, sometimes that’s 45 seconds sometime just 20. Depends on the goal and intensity. Surely during less conditioning or time constrained sessions they rest 2-5 minutes or as needed.
