im from South Carolina and the first time I heard this song I was convinced it was a southern black man singing lmao, can't believe he's a white Australian
He's from Darwin. Grew up playing country & western with the local indigenous people, has North American parents. Hence the culture blend.
I hear people relating him to Tom Waits or some thing els of these days but I couldnt disagree more. I am hearing some Old black southern man, relatable to Screamin Jay Hawkins, or R.L. Burnside, or Lead Belly, or Howling Wolf. This is wild.
you could disagree more, considering Tom Waits has near always been compared to those very same greats.
I just saw him in Charleston SC a few months ago at the Royal American. C.W. is an A+
The blues knows no color.
I can't get enough of those backup singers!
When I first heard this on the radio I thought it was a Popcorn hit from the 50's sung by an old black guy. I absolutely love it, amazing sound. Great to see CW is keeping the old flavour going!! Love it!
Exactly! Same here.
Surprised it's a modern song by a white... Australian?! Haha. Good on him.
This guy is a reincarnation of many musicians.
Everything about this song and performance is just wonderful!
Holy crap my ear holes......just found this brilliant fella!!!!!!!! I cant get enough
This is great stuff. It's like John Waters and Tom Waits were locked in a room together.
bit of harry bellafonte too
Not to mention, Dan Hicks & his hot licks...
Also pokey Lafarge
John waters, john prine, tom waits, and some mushroom tea
Heard this on WTSQ 88.1 in 2022, love the backup singers.
Are you ready? (yeah!)
I got a brand new dance here for you,
This one, it's called, the Zombie (Arghhh!)
W-when you hear that zombie rockin' slow,
Til the break o' dawn in the Congo,
Ain't gonna lay to rest, 'til the mornin' light,
Gonna raise some sand in the dead o' night
M-mama hear them mumblin' low,
(Til the dawn breakin' light)
They go shufflin', shufflin', across the floor, (ooh ooh ooh)
(In the dead of the night)
Can you hear the little children cry?
(Cryin' "Mama, mama") Watchout!
(Arghh!!) Zombie's a terrible fright
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
This old new sensation,
Nuther stone cold hit,
Comin' up out the radio,
It go so slow, it don't never quit
(Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh)
Man, you can't fight it, don't even try,
Left an' right, they's goin' in drag-step time,
This old repetition make 'em lose their mind
(Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh)
So children,
Direct your feet right way on 'long
That all infectious beat, c'mon,
Everyone you know's out in the street,
We gon' see if you can't sing along.

I grown so 'fraid of the man in the street,
With a finger on the pulse, look dead on his feet,
Way he say, "All I wanna do is eat, an eat."
(Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh)
I close my eyes,
But why can I not rest?
Cause the fear of death that do not die,
Unsettle me where I lie,
(Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh)
That's why I bring 'em my best ol' slow-footed jump,
Here rollin' with the things in the night go bump
I wanna rid my head of all that nasty, nigglin' junk

Man i love this sound this guy has a black soul he is soooooo good
Does not get the recognition that he deserves
He needs studio recordings on Spotify, I swear he'd get famous quick
@@shannenlibres2365 Haha what are you guys talking about? CW has his recordings on spotify. And he is pretty big? He works with folks Jack White and Josh Homme, was even in the top of the pop music polls not that long ago. In Australia anyway.
@@suncat5160 oh well I didn't know cos I'm not australian
Shannen Canton you can’t access his music if you’re not in Aus?
@@suncat5160 no I mean never met anyone who has heard him on Spotify. Didn't know he was popular
The best discovery! Amazing!

I am addicted to this, and to this version because those girls are perfect accompaniment.
One of my favourites... music is made for sharing. Social media has just redeemed itself
That was just so amazing
Stoneking: simply Great! 🎶🎵🎶😊
love the stoneking...coolest cat ...
Absolutely Fantastic! 🎶
Love me some C.W. Stoneking, even more so with the lovely Jessica Wilkes backing him up on the bass!
Budget Gun Cinema
Noted. Both talented
The song is excellent, CW was excellent live at the Substation in Newport, and the double bass player is all kinds of gorgeous.
Love this song and all of the songs on the album Jungle Blues Unreal banana peel!!!
you should be able to like something more than once, love this tune
outstanding . magical performance
Kickin' myself that I missed this stuff when CW was here!
Like a long lost cousin of Tom Waits. Heavenly.
My thoughts exactly. You should hear his The Love Me or Die. Probably his best.
C.W STONEKING= LEGEND💯💪
Saw you in Glasgow. Absolutely fucking brilliant. The band is a groovin' machine.
A musical genius.
Great music always
Seeing this guy this coming Friday, can't wait.
Amazing! just Amazing!!!!!
Why this CW song hasn't been picked up for The Walking Dead yet is beyond me. I enjoyed this acoustic version a lot.
This would've worked better for Shaun Of The Dead.
This would've worked better for Train To Busan. Next zombie film reference below this comment, please. Pretty sure we can collectively work our way through the entire genre library.
Because the creators agreed that they would never use the term "zombie" on the show. --- From eonline: "Ever wonder why The Walking Dead calls zombies everything but the word? They're walkers, biters, floaters, geeks, lurkers, roamers, rotters-you get the point. They're everything but zombies. Robert Kirkman is here to explain why.
Kirkman, who is the comic book co-creator and executive producer on the series, explained to Conan O'Brien the real reason why zombies aren't called zombies by any of the characters. Zombies didn't exist in The Walking Dead world before the outbreak.
"Well, zombie lore is very popular. We wanted to avoid that notion of, ‘Hey, why doesn't that character just shooting that zombie in the head because it saw all those movies I saw.' We wanted to kind of give you a sense that The Walking Dead takes place in a universe where zombie fiction doesn't exist," Kirkman said on Conan."
@@raveythirteen5660 that's in-universe though. Music used in the soundtrack wouldn't count as anyone on the show saying "zombie", assuming you don't imagine the characters can hear the music we hear while watching the show. That said, I don't think the song is a good fit for the show purely because it's about a zombie, that's not how soundtracks are done, so I'd say the real reason they haven't used this song is one of these reasons: 1) they've never heard it or 2) it didn't seem to them that it would work well as the music for any particular scene or 3) they tried and couldn't get permission
As a horde of walkers stroke by, I'm with you, brother
C.W. Stoneking is a B.A.M.F.
Hell of a song, isn´t it?
This is just wonderful.

BEST
Cadê os caras q/ tocavam com ele antes ? Rodaram...
I thought about was there a musician in past with a vibe in similar vibe. Really nothing came to mind. I saw Dr John in Black Dome around 1967. Small joint with no ac, everybody sweating and Dr John dressed in Gris Gris outfit. So this is closest comparison to CW. Great Aussie jungle blues original artist.
Ese violín es muy grande.
Nobody does it better
How is this not essential in all school curricula?
It IS essential, that's why ;-)
Good G
Just found this guy and wondering where has he been all this time?
knocking about the world being amazing! :) he's just very niche, to know, ya gotta know, ya know? LOL!
Paula ‘Moist’ Henderson on baritone saxophone
Holy fuck did you really just do this to me?!
Does anyone know who the other musicians are!?
What a performance!
bassist looks very much like jessica lee wilkes (wife of jd wilkes, legendary shack shakers)
@@dhaeze you are correct!
класс...для меня это находка..
🥰👍🏻❤❤❤🙏🏼
👁 El ojo
Who are the backing band?
Zombie takes a second listen @ 2:00
Tambien llegue aqui por Draco Rosa
Sounds great! What kind of mics are being used here?
We used two Neumann TLM 102 cardioid mics.
A ribbon mic was used in the original recording.
I would love to know the chords he uses for this amazing tune!
Hannes I'm pretty sure it's just A minor and E major 7th or E dominant 7th the whole way through
My man introduced his guitar and not the ladies.
Yawl got it goin on 🎉
You gotta wonder how much this guy smokes...
The f***? I thought this was black guy recorded in the 40s
hahahah
HE'S WHITE!?
Cool - another 2 chord song....must have taken months to write this song......
Then why are you here? I see you comment on this mans videos all the time just complaining like a bitter nobody. Get a life dude.
