On an August evening in Seoul, South Korea, a newly formed production crew was setting up cameras and microphones as the eight-member session band warmed up and rehearsed. Most of the musicians had flown in from the U.S. just for this performance; a few were already based in Seoul. The special occasion was one of the first concerts for Tiny Desk Korea, a brand new series based halfway around the world from NPR's offices in Washington, D.C. It was an exciting moment for everyone in the room as we awaited the arrival of Kim Tae-hyung, 김태형, who most know as V from BTS.
He was about to release a new album, Layover, and he'd never performed the songs live before. The three sultry cuts in this set are sure to make ARMY go crazy. "Love Me Again" starts the set with a catchy hook and steamy verses sung in Korean; you don't have to understand the language to feel the regret and loss. He keeps the romantic mood going with an uptempo R&B vibe on "Slow Dancing." Before the last tune, "For Us," V says in Korean, "These songs evoke a sense of fleeting tranquility, as if they effortlessly pass by and offer a soothing pause."
This video is part of the newly launched international version of Tiny Desk, a joint venture between NPR and LG U+, a Korean telecommunications and media company. All concerts - including the first few episodes with the Kim Chang Wan Band, Sunwoo Jung-A and the Yun Seok Cheol - are available on the Tiny Desk Korea TH-cam channel, which will unveil a new video every Thursday.

They are all excellent singers. You should listen to them more. Unless you mean a baritone in which case, yes, he is the only baritone vocalist in the group. RM and Suga are also baritones even tho they are rappers and only occasionally sing
You could tell from the joy on V’s face that this was exactly the vibe he wanted for his songs. The saxophone player, the background singers and the rest of the band were just outstanding. They really understood exactly what V was looking for. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Everyone who works with BTS members and Big Hit staff walks away praising the members as artists and professionals, as well as just loving the experience. It’s one reason (of many) that we fans support them the way we do. So it was no surprise and yet utterly lovely to see the band members commenting. They have also talked about it on their socials. Since this happened, i started to watch a lot of tiny desk performance and i must say, this is one of the best. The band is super talented and the vocals were stable through out. Tae's voice was super impressive and very emotional especially in For Us. I love love love this and i hope to see them again.

Thank you for this soulful music! This is coming from a old school gal who is a huge lover of RnB and grew up in it for the last 6 decades. This is my first time hearing K-Pop and this young man NAILED IT! So smooth, soulful, groovy are the musician and background as well as V with his smooth soulful singing. It look like they had a great time on stage. Adding V’s EP to my playlist. Thank you for sharing this amazing talent!
This isn't Kpop this is K R&B V is from the group BTS and I can't even call them a Kpop group because they don't sound anything like the other ones. They are their own genre honestly but back to V or Taehyung he is our little jazz loving trumpet and saxophone playing Mr. You sound for sure check out his other songs and the group they have something for everyone.

I have so much respect for Taehyung. Instead of chasing the hype, he chose to make music he identifies with the most for his debut. His debut, the most important release of a singers career. He choose the genre he likes, knowing it isn’t a preferred genre by kpoppies. And he chose to showcase his beautiful voice and what it’s capable off without producers abusing it with autotune. And I must say he killed it. There is no skip on Layover. I have been listening tot it nonstop since the release and I still can’t get enough. Im so proud of you Taehyung. Layover has a special place in my heart. Congratulations on your successful debut Taehyung. Im so sad Layover promotion era is almost over. But thank God we have so much content. Thank you so much for working so hard. I will be binge watching everything time and time again. Tiny desk is my favorite though!

Ive watched this a hundred times, and my respect for this guy grew each time. He just loved music. Not a greedy person, he let the band shine as much as him. I tried to describe V's voice once but couldn't pin it down. Listening to the sax player clarified it for me. V plays the sax and his voice sounds like one too. They melt together.

Most kpop is not something I listen to, but I absolutely love BTS - Taehyung in particular. His type of music is what resonates with me and I believe he is a true artist that is breaking down walls for what is considered "Korean music" and paving the way. This performance is my favourite. As a person who has been in love with rnb since a child, these songs and this performance in particular, speaks so much to me. An outstanding band and perfectly tempered vocals by Taehyung makes this one of the most memorable tiny desks. Thank you for an incredible album Taehyung, I will listen to it forever, like all the rnb classics I keep in rotation.
As an Asian and don't know very well about R&B, I love this style of music though. I always love soulful American Black singers like Whitney Housten, Beyonce and Earth Wind & Fire. So I naturally fell in love with Taehyung's voice. Taehyung's live performance, the backup vocals, the musical instruments, the saxophone complement one another so beautifully! This live performance is mind blowing!

Myself, I’m an Asian that grew up in Northern California where rnb and hip hop were the backbone of the culture there. This has been my favorite of all of the solo projects members dropped before enlisting. I knew Tae would deliver something that touched my heart and played me like an instrument. Whenever I listen to the album, I get stuck on "For Us", but the whole record fits so well together. It's such a vibe. 💜
This is really something special. I haven't considered wanting a whole album in a long time from anyone, but V's album seems like not one song would be out of place, and that the whole thing could be put on repeat. Really excellent songs, singing, excellent band and back-up singers here. V shines when he can harmonize with others, his voice truly pops when he's singing with others, especially women, very much so with women, the tone of his voice is perfect for male/female duets, and i haven't ever noticed that with any other male singer before, so that's really cool.

Bruh , is should be about talent dedication and skills. And all of them have it. We will have better stuff if people stop seeing people by races and all that superficial stuff. Im telling you most of the countries outside the US don’t care. We just want people to do their job well.

this is some real high quality music right here. in a time when most big artists, especially kpop artists, are coming out with catchy songs to go viral on tiktok, V has created music purely for the sake and love of music and it is warming my heart and filling it with so much hope for the future of music as an artform. as a music and jazz lover, i want to thank him from the bottom of my heart. patiently waiting for his next solo album.
I absolutely agree and also cannot wait to listen to his next solo project. Every song he’s released on his own has been all about the music and what he likes, rnb and jazz. Thankfully we have layover and his other amazing solos to tide us over until the his next project

It is his album. He defined it as the closest representation of him. I would think he is involved in the direction and decision making of his project, not just "performing".

V’s voice is like butter (no pun intended). Rich, full of flavor, delicious, unique, clear….unequaled. Goodness! Is it possible he’s blossomed into a true wonder of the world??? Beautiful to look at, a performer extraordinaire and a song writer, vocalist without compare!!! My TaeTae is amazing us in ways I never imagined. His style is needed in the world today.

Bts comeback about to be insane coz chapter 2 has allowed each member to shine so bright and the fact that they are sooo different is insane like not a lick of similarity. I'm glad V gets to shine more through his voice and style of music which is often times underated
This intimate setting is just how the songs in V's solo album are meant to be experienced. Look at the smile on his face. I love that he recorded an album that reflects himself and the music he wants to create. I hope more people discover V (and BTS) through this performance.

Oh wow! This Tiny Desk was amazing. Singing jazzy R&B tunes without catchy upbeat music and choreography is like a breath of fresh air from a K-pop artist. He is fearless. It's a brave decision to choose this genre for his solo debut that could either make him or break him. I have become a fan now.

Completely agree. I love this genre best but I know it’s not as consumed as much as pop. I love Taehyung’s most, esp this album, and all his other solos (singularity, stigma, snow flower etc)

Everything about it was wonderful. V's voice is stunning. He also truly let his band and backgound singers shine. They all seemed like they were friends and in sync with each other. And the pose at the end was so freaking cute!!! 😍

At this point I watch this video more often than I listen to the studio version of Layover 😂 I so need Tae to give us a live album of this one day and keep releasing this kind of songs, but LONGER. Please please Tae, I'm in love with your music and I need more.
