    What a great idea for a playlist ! Enough to silence those who claim that there were no great female classical composers (or none at all), and all the theories suggesting that genius is necessarily male...When really how could we know they existed if they are never honored in the culture?

      if you have time and want a great perspective on this, there is a great essay by Linda Nochlin called "why are there no great women artists?" which goes into great detail about the institutional obstacles that have prevented women from succeeding in the arts! One of the most interesting points is that many of the few recognized female artists are often the only child or oldest daughter of an artist father who wanted to pass down his craft but had no sons

    Thank you for including Teresa Carreño in this playlist; her musical relevance is sometimes overlooked, which is pretty sad considering the international impact she had, during and after her death. Teresa Carreño brought pride to the Venezuelan spirit, shattered social stereotypes from the 19th century, met a variety of virtuosos- Liszt and Rossini being perhaps the most celebrated of them-, and wrote a wide variety of musical works. As a Venezuelan immigrant, she demonstrated that in the hard times, one must be perseverant and stick to one's virtues and passions. As with how Venezuela is today, I think that it is our duty as Venezuelans to follow her example, and exercise our virtues wherever we go.

    perfect playlist to listen to while reading marxist feminist literature

    • @helvete_ingres4717
      @helvete_ingres4717 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      must be awful to be missing the prerequisite brain structure to actually feel and appreciate music and instead turn it into a form of ostentatious consumption for woke points/background music for left-brained activity (reading 'marxist feminist literature'). Even as background music, you must be an extreme wordcel to choose your background music on the basis of some left-brained conceptualisation divorced from all musical experience like 'I read these pieces were composed by women; that makes some kind of political sense as accompaniment for my wordcel politica reading'. Take it from someone with a beter understanding of music than you, this music is rote and uninspired and indistinguishable from the salon music of its day btw (most of which was composed by males who aren't remembered, unlike these women who are remembered to some degree for being women), it's not an injustice these composers occupy no significant place in music canon. The only ppl you see gushing over playlists like this are musically clueless people who swarm on it for the female names (you could absolutely put any music from the time under those female names and the reaction would be the same)

    • @norah6954
      @norah6954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@helvete_ingres4717 knowing the hisory behind a piece can make you appreciate it in different ways and therefore put you in the right mood to read certain genres or books, there 's no shame in that. plus I don't really think it's necessary to keep music on such a high pedestal that you can ONLY listen to it with absolute concentration and devotion. that's a nice way to listen to music too, but you can enjoy most music in different ways, which might even give you a new experience with it like dancing or connecting a memory or emotion to a fantastic piece. just let this person enjoy their music and literature the way they like it is what I'm saying.

    • @helvete_ingres4717
      @helvete_ingres4717 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@norah6954 I actually deeply agree with all that you've said there, but I don't think it touches the kind of ostentation I was talking about, which even if untrue of the act of listening to music is certainly true of making that kind of comment. The personal subjective aspects you allude to 'dancing, connecting a memory or emotion' are deeply felt, embodied, internal and specific things, they have the same origin in the pscyhe/body imo as the appreciation for music. None of them are a mental *abstraction* you would being to the experience, such as 'this music was written by women'.

    • @KanadMondal
      @KanadMondal 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@helvete_ingres4717 Quite late, but I think that is taking the original comment out of context. They never said anything that implies this is good only because it was written by a woman. Reading is not a mental abstraction, I think you would agree, and this comment is just that, a comment about how the music fits the genre. It's also true that the comment was making it as if the fact that it was written by a woman changes anything about the content of the music itself, but knowing the history behind and who wrote a piece can still have an effect on the listener. It is also important to note that reading politically charged literature doesn't necessarily mean that the reader aligns themselves with it, people who read Mein Kampf are mostly not Nazis. Whatever the commenter revealed themselves to be doing is not wrong in any way, but your critique of it assumes there is more to it than is said. To your defense, it is very likely that there is more to it, but if the world called for such scrutiny, it would be too stressful a place.

      if you heard this same music with instead the names of those 'well-known and listened to composers' on the title, you'd just think it was them, or an imitation of them. That's why this music is nothing special and there's only so much fake-interest you can manufacture on the basis of it being published under female names - those names are i fact the 'new discovery' you refer to, nothing to do with the actual music which is all pretty much the standard kind of salon music of the time

    Good work. In your next (if you decide to do one more) you may also want to include some more of the earlier ones, such as Barbara Strozzi, Anna Amalia of Prussia, Anna Amalia of Sachsen, and of course Hildegard of Bingen.
