Possibly the best staged sequence of the dream ballet I have seen.

Such exquisite dance sequences, from when Laurie begins her dream, the playfulness of the young ladies with her tossing about the bottle of elixir. Then the cowboys and young maidens enter with tumbling. Its all superb timing. The orchestration, scenery and lighting. Beautiful production.

I’m usually not into ballet. But this is so amazing! In fact I enjoyed this proshot more than the 1955 movie! And this was my first real glimpse of Hugh Jackman as a triple threat. A vanishing breed of talent indeed

I saw it at the National theatre in London also.... ever since I was a young "lad" I loved this theme song. Musicals were set in me during my adolescence, and I like many of them.... I can play them over and over in my mind.

When Laurey starts smiling when the burlesque dancers force her to dance with them

Meleena lopez She’s intrigued and fascinated, seemingly having a good time with the “new” experience- a brief few seconds of decadent joy-only to realize she’s losing her mind!

All the ballet music is on the cd with the exception of 7:23-10:38 in this segment, the passage accompanying Jud’s “pin-up” girls. Perhaps they were trying to keep the cd length around 74mins., but it should have been included. I love the part where Laurey joins the kick line for a brief few seconds of decadent joy, only to realize she’s losing her mind! I like the original staging with the substitute counterpart dancers for Laurey & Curley, but I applaud this production for using the real actors in the dream- both versions work well for different reasons. And the new choreography and orchestrations are bold and innovative.

I’m so sad that the middle portion of the ballet isn’t on the album. It’s my favorite part of this version of Oklahoma and, though I love the original R&H arrangement, this version is just more impactful and I think fits better thematically. Removing “Pore Jud is Dead’ and instead expanding on the “I Cain’t Say No” portion with an exquisite honky-tonk style is just perfect.
I also love how Laurey at one point looks like she’s kind of getting into it, as though she realizes she could give in to simple pleasure and even find some enjoyment in a life with Jud, however she quickly realizes that she needs more than that - she needs Curly. Overall this 1998 performance is my absolute favorite version of Oklahoma and it’s the one I compare all others to.

There’s a new double-cd of 98 mins which includes all the songs, musical changes of scene, instrumentals, etc of the entire show, and it’s been put out recently-it features an orchestra conducted by John Wilson, who had done a Proms revival staging of “Oklahoma!”, which is also on You Tube (you can watch it there) , but the songs from this new double-cd are on You Tube as well, with a different cast which includes Sierra Boggess. I still like the London 1998 revival we were discussing and of course the 1955 film version as far as my favorite recordings so far. Wilson did a great job of the R&H songs in his album “Rodgers and Hammerstein At The Movies” which was also a Proms concert, replicating the film score orchestrations closely, and the orchestra performed “The Carousel Waltz” brilliantly. That’s really my favorite R & H show (“Carousel”) so hopefully there will be a complete recording someday to get all the songs and instrumentals together finally in one place as he did with the “Oklahoma!” 98min cd.

I'll have to say I think the 1998 version of Oklahoma is better then the original one in 1943
