It's the emotion, the revelation of their soul to their public. I've heard singers who are near perfect in technic and control, yet they sound mechanical and, frankly, forgettable. I'm not going to mention any of those as some are quite famous. Here's my preferred list of best female vocalists in order of personal preference: Agneta Falskog, Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston. Cheers!
Agnetha's voice sounds so bright and has a very angelic quality to it. She is also so humble about her talent that it just makes the whole package so much better.

Tretow used the famous technique of "wall of sound production", which created the famous "ABBA sound", in which the girls' vocals were recorded in "layers". That is why, it was difficult or even impossible to recreate the studio sound in a live performance....this is why I think that ABBA did so many "live" performances on shows such as "Musikladen" and "Disco" (in Germany), among others................in which they "lip synched". Of course, they did do actual "live vocals" on some shows, such as "Top Of The Pops" and others also. And, I must also mention that their 1977 European & Australian Tour and their 1979 European & North American Tour were definitely "ALL LIVE VOCALS"...👍🎤🎤✨

I think one of the factors, is also, that ABBA are Swedish, and the girls' accents when they sing, adds a certain "touch" to the songs. That is why ABBA took the world by surprise, no one would have ever expected, that a group from Scandinavia could conquer the world. Whereas it wouldn't have been a surprise at all if they had been from an "Anglo-Saxon" origin. That is why ABBA decided to record their music in "English", so that way, they knew they had a chance to make it outside the borders of their native Sweden.
Faltskog never knew how good she was. She was so modest in the years Abba were active! Probably the best pop voice of all time! And certainly the best story teller. As good today as she was in seventies.
1974 - forty-seven years ago - this group recorded this song. Agnetha was 24 when she sang this, and Abba were already great even though it took the world another year or two to fully begin to appreciate the wonder of this group. This is so far removed from Waterloo, and That's me, showing the diversity of music that they produced. Thanks Dereck and thanks also for showing us how hard it is to sing an Abba song.
I grew a major fan of ABBA instantly and mostly of the voice of Agneta when I heard Dancing Queen for the first time through a jukebox. I was only 7 years old. However this song will be my all time forever favourite . This song does so much justice to Agneta's voice, she really has this angelic voice. And I have exactly the same shivery feeling, every time I 'm almost in tears to every verse where she hits that line you describe. And your deep sigh reaction as if you left a big burden behind you.. priceless 😁 I 'm so glad that so many younger people still love their songs. They are icons of an era 🥲

Purely sublime. Agnetha in her prime. This song is so good on so many levels. Agnetha´s singing hits you hard emotionally combined with the evangelical lyrics (is she singing about her boyfriend or god?). To me this is one of the their best!
Wonderful ABBA song. Definite hidden gem. Should've been released as A-side single. Agnetha really takes charge on this one. Her voice is so incredibly beautiful, powerful, pure and angelic here. So much emotion in it. And that incredible soar in second verse is just... wow. And girls' harmonies are impeccable as always. Lyrically it's also spot-on from Bjorn. It's amazing how he managed so well to talk from female perspective (not only in this song but in many others). This song describes very well woman's passion and love for someone. You should check out live performance of this song from Australia tour in 77. There is an excerpt from ABBA-The Movie (concert show film).
Considering he did know how to talk from a female perspective, he should have understood how heart wrenching it would have been for Agnetha when he chose to end it with her. I will never understand what drove him to leave her, she is every man's dream come true.

The first time I heard this song when I was 10 years old it was like listening to angels and so addictive chorus. I’m sure if it was released as a single it would have been a huge hit like the others Mamma Mia and SOS. Agnetha is perfect form here and it is her type of song I’m sure she loved singing it as it shows.

Love this song. I bought the single back in the 70's. Must have played it a hundred times. It's still in a box somewhere because no turntable. ABBA were geniouses. The combination of their talents combined was magical. The music, the lyrics and the beautiful vocals were something so special.

There are some lovely songs amongst their earlier albums. This particular performance is not live but they could certainly do so in concert. There's a great snippet of 'I've Been Waiting For You' in ABBA The Movie from one of their Australian concerts. ABBA fans have long wanted to have a live release of the 1977 tour.

This was not live. It was a performance in a German TV show called "Beat Club" and in this shows they never have sung live. Nonetheless it is a great song but in opposite to you I also love the chorus when Agnetha and Frida sing together with this wonderful third voice. 🥰

Agentha has an amazing voice and can sing songs with such emotion and you can hear her sing with her heart ❤️. When she sings with Frida. She is simply fascinating and you can't tell who is singing with the third voice
ABBA has always created music that they like and may have taken inspiration from other acts but they are the most authentic band ever.
Agnethas voice is amazing best pop voice ever full of emotion easily in top 5 best vocalists of all time.

There are some lovely songs amongst their earlier albums. This particular performance is not live but they could certainly do so in concert. There's a great snippet of 'I've Been Waiting For You' in ABBA The Movie from one of their Australian concerts. ABBA fans have long wanted to have a live release of the 1977 tour.

The Frida-led equivalent to this is “Gonna Sing You My Love Song” IMO. That song is so beautiful.
There were a record just produced for a German audience coming from the Music Show "Musikladen" including the songs "Gonna sing you my lovesong, My Mama said and I've been waiting for you"

This was not live. It was a performance in a German TV show called "Beat Club" and in this shows they never have sung live. Nonetheless it is a great song but in opposite to you I also love the chorus when Agnetha and Frida sing together with this wonderful third voice. 🥰

Agentha has an amazing voice and can sing songs with such emotion and you can hear her sing with her heart ❤️. When she sings with Frida. She is simply fascinating and you can't tell who is singing with the third voice
