Thanks for the great demo video of this scanner. Love how you gave away digital picture frames as gifts. That’s so cool you can share old family photos via the picture frames and the cloud. Takes the scanning of photos to the next level. Also love the fringe benefit of inspiring family members to come over and visit you to scan their photos. Which will spark more conversations and reminiscing. Good bonding time.
I have heard that it can damage photos because of the rollers in the scanner. Did you experience any of this with your photos? Your video is very well done! Thank you.
I bought one. Worked well for about 200 photos, then started leaving scratches on the photos and lines in the scanned imaged. Especially on glossy photos. Cleaned rollers etc. Didn't fix it. Seemed to be caused by the rollers. But I couldn't see where. I returned it. Pity because when it worked was super.
We’re your photos super old or possibly dirty? Maybe stored n a house with smokers? Where believe it or not it covers everything n a layer of nicotine’ just trying to get feed back to make a choice’ Where did u buy yours from? I’m deff gunna buy it from somewhere they don’t hassle u to return being $600 if it’s garbage I don’t want it u know lol
@@joshymcdaniel9233 no smokers here. photos were clean. Stored in a closed container. Photos looked perfect. I wonder did something like old glue on the back of one of the photos scratch the roller. I couldn't see it any way. I gave up after a day of trying. I bought from amazon. So it went back. I've parked the project for now.
Thank you for your video. Did the scanner fix any scratches or marks on your prints; i.e., does your Epson scanner have the ICE Technology? I purchased the Epson v850, but the Epson, VueScan, and SilverFast software does not use ICE on photo prints.... bummer. So, I have to return the scanner for a different model. I am hoping another Epson might work on our photo prints.
Thank you for your information. Need to get one as soon as I can afford or finance it! 👍 I have 13 boxes of photos like yours would take me forever!!!!
Unfortunately, no. However, this one does have the capability to scan the backs of photos too, in case there are notes on them. It also does double duty as a document scanner. So, if there are old records or certificates, those can be archived as well.
So does it really handle a bunch of different physical formats at the same time? By the looks of things it seems like it handles similar formats in one go but dunno if it would work as good if you filled it up to capacity, I believe Epson says it's good for 35 photos in one go. It's a mechanic process so it could be a challenge to feed this thing with a variation of formats without any of them getting stuck in the process. Those gray side adjusters doesn't help much as they only work if the formats are identical or if you scan a paper. Another thing is the lack of PNG export. TIFF is lossless too but it occupies tons of storage space.
If I try something similar with my scansnap ix500 I eventually start to get dust lines. Does this have the same issue of dust lines and needing regular cleaning?
It would be hard to say without having one running 24/7 until failure. Having said that, components in such devices have life spans of 100s of thousands of hours. If each photo took 5 seconds, for argument sake, as it can scan a photo in 1 second, 100 hrs of use would be at least 72,000 photos. Your mileage may vary of course.
Have you ran into an issue with lines appearing on the scanned photos? This happens to me even though I clean the photos and the scanner before I start scanning.
Hi Mike or Anyone, some people were adding comments about saving on TIFF setting rather than JPEG. Also thatvsetting was available. I will eventually want to scann my Sears Portraits how will they look? Do I need to buy something else or change settings for larger prints ro maintain the resolution, quality, etc..., Thank you
Yep you can save pics directly to computer or USB just change the default location (‘pictures’ on Mac, not sure on PC, I use a Mac) to where your USB is located or to desktop
@@oliviadaly4795 Taking this a step further… I have both Mac and PC. I am considering buying this and hooking up to my Mac but I’m sure I would run out of hard drive space. Am I able to file the photos off to external or cloud?
If you have an external drive that’s permanently connected to your laptop, I don’t see why not? Just choose that instead of the default location (‘pictures’ for Mac) in the settings. Or if you have one you don’t keep permanently plugged in, save to desktop etc and copy the files over after each scanning session (make a second backup tho!) and delete from your computer after.
I thought we could only save to Drop box or Google Drive. You used the phrase “Google Photos”. I would love to save directly to GP but can’t seem to do it.
Unfortunately you can’t save direct to Google Photos unless they update the software since Google Drive and Google Photos have now split. But what you can do is save to computer/hard drive, then upload to Google Photos manually. Bit annoying but it works
Scanning the negatives produces a better image. Like photographing a picture on your phone. It’s not the same. I’m digitising my negs and slides too since I’m sure there are a lot we didn’t get printed or have got lost over the years
Read the Amazon comments… doubtless a great way to bulk scan a lot of SNAPS! But If you have quality shots, use a flatbed (or, for really serious work, and IF you have negatives - positives for you serious Photographers - a macro lens and digital camera) This time saver produces JPEGS while - even a low end - flatbed will give you a TIFF! What’s the diff? It’s like 1080P video vs 4K ie only wanna see your pics on a smart phone? KISS! But if you wanna put treasured family keepsakes on a monitor… TIFF/4K!
If you actually look through the scanner settings, it does give you an option to save in TIFF. I rented it for a few days, was thinking of re renting and doing the rest of my photos, then my dad pointed out if I rent it 4 times that’s how much it costs to buy. So I’ve used it (and am waiting for the one I bought to arrive) but I know for a fact it lets you scan 600DPI TIFF files...
Thanks for the great demo video of this scanner.

Thank you so much for this extremely informative video. Cannot believe you got the entire box scanned in a day. what a god send.
Well done video. Thank you for taking time to demonstrate and talk about the Epson Fast-Foto. It is just what I've been looking for.
how do you clean this as mind is now showing LINES in the scans.
Very informative video. Can you scan directly to a thumb drive or disc OR do you need to scan to hard drive first and then copy?
this is helpful. also, you have the right personality for this and are good at it. good job, and thanks for keeping this to plus/minus 6 minutes.

Yes, I have this scanner and it requires cleaning often. I use a spray of air between scans and then clean occasionally.
do they have an estimated life span? 100 000 photos for eg

And and and!? Happy with the gear and ease of use and results? Thanks.
Could it handle old photos out of the older albums that may have tape residue, or paper from taking out of albums? TY!
good point there its not kind of roller that kill that glue?
This scanner comes with a sleeve to put older/ more delicate photos in.
Great review, definitely getting one now 😊

Yes it does do documents
