There`s a possibility that the 'La Sirene' was not a real ship, a kind of controversy among ship historians. This model is really the Le Phenix, a French ship built in 1664. Heller added the high stern cabin, the small galleries at the bow, and the large figurehead of 'Lori' the mermaid that must sale out to over 30 feet! In other words, Heller created this model from the Le Phenix to get 2 its from the same mold.I built the Phenix about 20 years ago for a friend. I bought the Sirene at a model train show maybe 9 years ago and built it for myself. Even if it`s 'more Hollywood than history', it`s still a magnificent model from that most interesting era of shipbuilding , the late 17th century. You did a fine job, I really love your builds and videos!
There's a trick with vacuum-formed sails where you soak a thin piece of cloth in starch, and lay it over the plastic to use as a mold. Let it dry and trim and paint to fit.
I thought your Vasa build was fun, but the La Sirene looks to be even more fun! Personally, I like the red lines along the hull as it makes it pop! As for the ship being real or not, I don't think it matters. What's important is the fun it gives building it, and this kit has lots of that. Looking forward to part 2!
Whether the ship is imagined or not, you've done a stellar job on this build so far, Alex. I look forward to your builds and will be keeping an eye out for the notification for the finished 'La Sirene' .
I was thinking myself : "I miss Alex's stunning work wirh ship models" and boom! Fantastic work! But honestly this ship looks like a kind of re-colored HMS Victory (which i can't wait to see!).
Really nice job. I have this one in 2 sizes in plastic and another in wood. I look forward to your videos. I liked your paint pens. Those I need to find. Thanks
Another amazing build and video Alex. Really enjoyed it. Again it amazed me how you can make the deck look so realistic, that is years of experience. I will be there today for part two, can't miss it. Looking forward to see how you did the sails and rigging. See you this afternoon (or evening for you). Awesome build 👍👍🇵🇹🤝🇺🇸
Thank you Chris! Its very hard to film the rigging i admit i could have filmes better and regarding the sails i just didn t out almost any because i already have a vídeo about it as you know. I also stoped building this One almost two (i think) years ago and had an accident with it and One ratline really paied the price i couldn t replace that One. At the end i like it nontheless. Thank you
Another fantastic model Alex. As a side question I need to build a wooden base to protect the HMS Victory, do you have The overall length of the ship including the bowsprit?
Hi there. I live the work you do. I have a question. From 20:20 you are painting the deck with a varnish like substance to bring out the color. What do you apply here? A blanc coating?
What to do with traces of glue on painted parts? And how tightly do the parts stay in place if you glue them onto painted parts? And about the threads from this video, how to remove shaggyness?
I wish he did the "Phenix" instead. That ship existed; whereas the "Sirene" didn't. They are the same kit except for the one sprue with the bow and stern decorations.
Et en plus , dans le final ( deuxième partie ), la voile de la proue et les fanions en haut ne vont pas dans le même sens que le drapeau rouge ...C'est bête ! ceci dit , beau travail tout de même .

I’m planning to build this kit as HMS Belleisle. Same Téméraire-class as Superbe
Great 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Lindo sempre u massimo de detalhe
Forte abraço!
I have the Sirene from the 70s and the box art does show the kit with the redlines.
What gold paint did you use?
I’ve never seen handbrushed metallic paint turn out like that.
Cool
Do you need a ventilated booth to paint like this?
I have a big window right on top of the build space 🙂
