I can't believe this worked so well. Thanks man. I thought the mp3 compression would throw it off but I just scanned through the compiled mp3 and it seems to work just fine.
I'm only getting one song file even though I copied all the tracks, and that one song file doesn't even play, it's posted at time 4:10, like the first song. My DOS results were exactly like yours, but it still only created one "single" track...the first song.
after combining 115 MP3 files in total of 04:34:51 the result file which is also at the correct size 258mb plays the first combined file only when getting to the 2nd it just displays dots as if trying to read or something...
Thank you very much, John Miller. This is amazing! I am rediscovering the beauty and simplicity of Command Prompt. So simple and fast, once you learn to move within directories using your copy command and before that cd and dir. You are a legend.
anyways, if your like me and don’t see the open command prompt window here thing, you can just click on the bar that shows your location (to the left of the search bar) in the folder with the files and type cmd then press enter
didnt work. Did EXACTLY what you did Win10 copy /b *.mp3 output.mp3. Its larger, check. In VLC, only the first audio mp3 file played, then it ended. In Windows Media Player it says ERROR.
Mine either but I think that's just the default problem of windows 10. Just open cmd and type "cd [File path here]" to get to the folder. To find the file path, just copy and paste the contents of the address bar when you open the file in explorer.
@@JohnMillerwashere you can also type cmd.exe in path bar (I learned it from here: th-cam.com/video/7yW6Ybj6tOk/w-d-xo.html ) note I don't use windows anymore, I use linux
Just noticed you are also into SDR and truck tracking. Wow...what a coincidence...have had a police scanner for 30 years and familiar with many forms of comms including emergency trunking systems. Cool!
Hi @John I tried doing this method and the files merged and the size of the combined file is equal to the individual files but when I play the combined file it does not include all of the content of the individual files

@@JohnMillerwashere Thank you for your 2 helpful videos about this. I am trying to merge WMA lossless files to achieve gapless playback on devices other than WMP. Your command prompt formula works on my mp3 files, but not on my WMA files. The odd part is that the size of the new WMA file shows that 2 files HAVE been merged, yet only the first file plays. Might you or anyone reading this know how I can get the new merged file to play completely?
Dude. You are absolutely the best. This worked perfectly! Although I had to use the CMD from scratch and change the directory by doing: cd "file directory name" example cd C:\Users\bgonzales\Downloads\Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run Copy and then doing the copy /b *.mp3 test123.mp3 after. Thank you so much man. All the best. The world runs well with people like you :)
I wish everyone could make things this simple. No fuss, no music, straight to the point, Excellent job
I was just about to type this

Thank you for this. What a great help, especially when there are so many garbage products out there, charging to do what Windows can do inherently.
only copies first file in list when trying to combine .wav files
after combining 115 MP3 files

plays the first combined file only

No issues with mp3 but it will only copy the first file for wav it seems.
Going back oldskool style. The Basics. In the beginning....aah, the memories. MountainAngel
worked as you said … using command-prompt to merge files … thanks, john.
Thank you so much. This not only made my day but it re woke my interest in command prompt commands. This is amazing.

Same issue for me on Win 10. I have 1 large file but when playing it is only file.
My File Explorer > File did not have "Open Command Prompt" as one of the options.

Win+R type CMD and then Enter

Thanks John Miller! This way I have joined 29 mp3 songs in one file within seconds... This worked on Windows7 and NOT on Windows 10..
microsoft changed it, here is how to get it back. www.windowscentral.com/add-open-command-window-here-back-context-menu-windows-10

what of windows 11. I'm stuck. Please help
Thanks, this is exactly what I needed to do....and so easy. You explained it well. Cheers!!!

works fine with mp3 files. but not with wav files. When you merge wav files size increases but the track same as first file only,
Same issue here. Any solution?
@@phorty89 convert them all to mp3 then join them?
use something like format factory to do that
Same thing with M4a files. Size increase but same track length as first file.
Worked on my first CD, all others are saying that will not play in any program? Suggestions?
Thanks John. Very helpful.
Simply put, direct, no beating about the bush.💯💯💯
this is easily the best way to do this. takes a second to fuse 800 small audio files into one
EXCELLENT worked with Win7 FLAC files to one FLAC file great thanks

@Wayne Devin Definitely, I've been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself :D
@Wayne Devin Yea, I have been using Flixzone} for months myself :D
can this be done with video files like avi or mp4 or convert and join video formats like mp3 audio files
It didn't work.
it works but it won't let me skim through the second song. can you help. Can you also merge videos together as well?
wow! so simple, so helpful!
the first 3 minutes and 6 seconds of this video is bs actual video starts at 3:07 for anyone wondering
It accepts the command, but only creates a file with no content tried many times.😢
Does not work on WIN10:
Copy-Item : A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument 'glassdukkene.mp3'.
At line:1 char:1
+ copy /B *.mp3 glassdukkene.mp3

Use command prompt not power shell
