Shojo series are notorious for their adult themes! Various mangakas (like Junji Ito or Yuu Watase) have said that they prefer to publish their works in shojo magazines because they allow much more freedom in the content of the series and how they can develop it. We mostly think of highschool romances for shojo because in the past decade those were the only series that got licensed in English and got an anime, but there's a lot of variety inside the demographics. It's like in shonen, where something like Jujutsu Kaisen and A Silent Voice share demographic.
It is just surprising to me in some cases, it seems like Yakuza lover would be josei as it doesn’t seem like a series targeted towards a younger crowd 🤔
Just a note, shonen doesn’t = action. Most popular romances right now are actually shonen romances. And there are plenty of shoujo action or fantasy series they are not all romance either.
Tip: if you don’t already READ WITCH HAT ATELIER!! (it has the most beautiful art I have ever seen, it has a unique and interesting plot that makes me never want to stop reading it, it has very strong female characters, it has good black and brown characters, it has beautiful and deep backstory’s, it has a gay couple, and the villains themselves are amazing characters.
Video is Amazing. When I saw Kimi no todoke I had a mental breakdown remembering the whole anime serie that I just love. Again, The video is amazing!:)
I got vol 1 of Oshi No Ko and that pop up parade Panda figure the other day and love it so much. You can always count on Seven Seas for publishing ALL the cat manga. It was funny at first then became obsessive. But Masterful cat is peak manga. The anime is out this summer and I cannot wait.
I saw boys abyss on the table in the beginning, i bought the first book cause i liked the cover. its wrapped for a reason. and, well different to say the least
shonen note is a really pretty coming of age story! it's from the same author of our dreams at dusk which is one of my all time fav manga so that's why i picked it up, but also i used to read the scanlations years ago😊

They know what they're doing with all the cat mangas, trying to get my attention I see. Also wow some of the books are massive, especially the art books.
I highly recommend Golden Sparkle as it reminds me of my childhood. Thank you for reminding me I need to get caught up with Mob 100. May do that this month. No Longer Human I need to pick up. I know it is a reprint of a 3 volume series that the singles were going for like $100 each. So glad they reprinted it! Always love your video!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I wish/hope that Mars by Fuyumi Soryo gets reprinted so badly AHH! It is my all time favorite manga series and the only way I can read it is checking it out from my library. Same with Godchild and The Cain Saga by Kaori Yuki. I hate when my favorite series goes out of print. 😔

Ahh thank you! I recommend series like kaiju no 8 and blue lock! Both are really great action series that have six volumes out so far, so it should be pretty easy to get up to date!
Thought it was kind of funny that both of the manga you said have pretty cover art in the beginning are bl manga, and by my two my favorite mangaka 😆😄 Love is an Illusion is one of my favorite series and was an instabuy/preorder for me but they are definitely expensive. 😅 A few times throughout the year though Barnes and Noble does a 25% or 30% off preorders coupon, and I preorder everything I know I'm gonna want later. If you're wanting to get into Danmei/Light Novels I recommend starting with Heaven Official's Blessing or Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. ❤

Considering how many villainess isekai I've read I'm surprised I've never read The Villainess Stans the Hero. I guess it's because the manga update so infrequently compared to all the manhwa. Also yay for all the physically published manhwa! Oh and the thing with josei and shoujo labels is that the demographic difference doesn't really seem to be a thing in Japan? Like there's a series labeled as a josei that won a shoujo award, for example. The demographics seem to actually be shoujo and what I've seen called "lady's manga" which just straight up have smut or borderline smut in them (there is also a young girl's one I think? which is where a lot of magical girl content is organized), it's less of a thematic thing from my understanding. I'm not like super well informed on the difference, however; I just know enough to tell you that the line between what is categorized as shoujo and josei is nigh nonexistent and conclusively thin.
I am really excited to read the series! It looks so good! And yes those labels refer to demographics based on gender and age if that makes sense. It can get very confusing 🥲💖
Shonen Note is a pretty fun slice of life it’s only going to be 8 volumes so not too much of a commitment
