Pain killers are limited to paracetamol which has very little effect. 6 months later, I felt great. Back to my exercise routine. If you never had bypass, stay healthy. Exercise regularly, avoid stress and eat nutritious food. If you are going for bypass, don't worry. You have to handle intense pain for at least 2 weeks after surgery. It is not life threatening.

It’s amazing! I had quadruple bypass in 2002, 18 years ago. I was sent home after 4 days. I’ve been doing great ever since. On my last cardio check up report, my doctor wrote excellent.
I had a quadruple bypass 12 months back. Honestly, pain was never a problem for me, what was a problem was the bloody medication they wanted me on. Now I am down to the minimum dose of Beta Blocker, ACE and Diuretic and I take Aspirin in lieu of Rat Poison [Warfarin]. Seem to be tolerating that better but want off it completely. I walk 10 ~ 12km every day in two 6km stints - one morning and one evening.
I knew a woman who had to have a quadruple bypass at 52 in 2012. Thankfully the surgery was a complete success. She was fine for a few years but earlier this year at 62, she had a crippling stroke that nearly killed her. She's now in a nursing home, unable to move one side of her body and she can't talk now. She was morbidly her entire life. 😢 To anyone out there, do your best to maintain a healthy weight and exercise as much as possible. Avoid the fate of a heart attack or stroke.

The pain from the sternum is indescribable , it is under control at the start in ITU bur when you get to the ward you really get it , any movement of the arms tries to pull it apart , it goes on for 6 weeks whilst the bone grows together and it is like having a 8 inch long broken leg which is walking around. If you cough you will cry, if you move your arms you will cry and eating is no fun, I ate as little as possible and lost a stone + over the time in the hospital of a week and a half. All my arm muscles and leg muscle became bingo wings and it took a long time to regain any ability to lift anything worthwhile. The on going problem was being strapped down for 6 hours and then spending the rest in bed on my back with only the electric bed to sit. Me up. 18 months later I appear to have sciatica from that time, which makes it another mobility problem. It is not anything to be flippant about but a large Teddy Bear would be nice at the first few weeks to hold together to the chest. Something soft but resilient to cuddle against to stop movement. I am getting better now a long time after the operation which was a quintuple bypass. I will not mention the catheter problems I had from being too big a diameter used causing scarring .😢

@MrNikhil461 He's doing well, thank you for asking! He saw his surgeon this past Monday and she is pleased with how everything is healing. Aside from some pain when trying to get up from laying down and to lay down (since he still isn't allowed to help lift himself), his main issue is depression, which I did not know was a common occurrence. It is not severe, thankfully, but it is something I think should be mentioned. When they told us what to expect during recovery, they should make sure to include mental and emotional expectations. However, overall, he is on the mend...slowly but surely. He started taking little walks this week so that's a good sign! How is your father doing? My dad asked about some of the pain and breathing issues and was told they deflate a lung to do the bypasses so he (and your dad) have to reinflate it. I didn't know that but my dad said, the other day, the pain on his left side was gone and it was because his lung must be full! 😄 Maybe your dad's lung just hasn't reinflated fully, yet...that could contribute to a shortness of breath (plus all the medications they were (and are on). Hopefully your dad's recovery goes quickly and well!!!

Hii
The bone which was cut and opened by the surgeons was sternum, it's not a type of hard bone, it is mixed and designated as strong cartilage type of bone.
The heart located in the middle mediastinum, which is located just behind the sternum .
Even I
At sternum they cut it open and join them by stitches, those stitches remain there as long as no new complication happens...

The vein ends aren't reconnected. They're clipped or tied off so that they don't bleed. There are collateral veins that will take the blood back to the heart. Fortunately, the human body is designed with some redundancies that make vein harvest in certain places possible without leading to problems.
Will last 2015 I was heart bypass CABGx5 graft and they harvested the healthy saphenus vein on my left leg...What I can its an excellent operation , I'm greatful with my heart surgeon specialist dr garcia & all the Asian Hospital Doctors, nurses, other personnel who had attended to me.They are so kind also and excellent heart medical diagnosis & treatment,operation..I congratulate them..Mabuhay po kayo.❤
Also to Dr. John Añonuevo of Asian Hospital who had conducted an angiogram and after operation check up & continuous follow up check. He is a excellent heart specialist also, and I'm thankful & very proud of him.
