Love this type of video of yours, where you don't really know where you are going, it's just a first day wander for you to see your new area. Walking a new city is such a buzz; seeing architecture, parks, landmarks and noting super markets, cafes, train stations and such. Walk on Gabriel.
Yeah because why would anyone pay attention to someone who had spent one day doing some research? What kind of idiot looks shit up? Why not just watch a video of a guy who's as ignorant as you? He knows nothing about Brussels, you know nothing about Brussels, you'll get along fine.
I was just in Brussels last week and found it to be a charming city. I've heard a lot of people speak poorly of Brussels and complain that there isn't a lot to do there. However, I was intrigued by the historic architecture and cobblestone streets. I felt as though I had traveled back in time and was getting a taste of old Europe when I was visiting the city. I would definitely recommend trying the waffles and chocolate to anyone who plans to visit Brussels.
vangrails, I realize that, but many of the other cities in Europe have a more modern feel to them (such as London and Paris). I found that Brussels maintained more of its historical charm than some of these other cities.
My sister and aunt were just in Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent in July. They loved it (my aunt had been a few times before, but it was my sister’s first time). Her Instagram pics of the trip are fabulous! It looks like a great place to visit. Enjoy! 👍🏼✌🏼
A low cost Belgium chocolate tip is to buy it a a grocery store (Delhaize is a major chain). Don’t be surprised if you find an entire aisle dedicated to chocolates!
Hi Gabe, I love the new open. Great street scene there in Brussels. The square with all the building was magnificent. I love seeing the churches as well and the interiors are beautiful to see. Hopefully the start of an amazing journey. 🙏👍
Seriously, I m following your videos from quite a long time now and it really feels I m actually in the place. Thanks a lot for your creativity and storytelling.
Agree on the recommendations for Gent. I travel there frequently for work and it really is a hidden gem of a city. If you're next week, I can take you out for a beer. Always good to see another NorCal bro in Belgium.
This was a trip down memory lane for me. What I love about this city is that it has everything that a large city has to offer but is not as hectic as Paris or London. At two million people its a fairly small city. I live in Brooklyn, New York and there are two million people just in my borough. I did day trips to Antwerp & Ghent- both very easy to get to from the central train station.
I was so glad to hear you say you were going to Bruges. I was there a number of years ago and it was absolutely pristine and gorgeous. I remember the older ladies sitting outside of shops hand making lace.
Great video! I was just in Belgium 2 months ago. Antwerp and Ghent are both very much worth seeing. They have all the charm of Brugge without being as crowded with tourists. There are organized "free" walking tours of all these places that depend of course on tips to make a living.
I've lived in Brussels all of my life, it's fun to see a walk-through from the pov of a foreigner. You pointed at a small station entrance in the side of the 'Dynasty building' instead of the actual 'Central station', otherwise you did well. The buildings around the 'Grand Place' were rebuilt within the span of a couple decades after a massive bombardment by French Artillery in 1695 razed or burned them all to the ground, except the town hall, which was miraculously only lightly damaged. The Gothic building across the street lost it's roof, but most of the facade remained standing. The unity in the style of the other buildings isn't due to town planning per se, but simply due to the fact that they were all built at about the same time. The square was a way for the civic powers, traders and master craftsman to show how rich and powerful they were, to visitors and potential enemies, as well as to the rest of the population, hence all the gold plating etc. Watching the other video now...
I kept seeing people say that Brussels is boring, it doesn't seem that boring to me. The church was pretty, and even just some of the architecture in general was really interesting.
Nice tour watching the city unfold from graffiti back streets to spectacular architecture surrounding great open spaces. Plus, I like you talking and telling stories as you go as in most of your videos. You got it going on big time. P.S., I love Brussel Sprouts.
I love brussel sprouts, I've been eating them since I was really young. I am an American, I eat them, if Americans didn't eat them, we wouldn't have them at grocery stores
Gabriel please visit the delerium cafe, its the place to get the best beer in Brussels its very close to the grand place! They have all sorts of beers and soooo many to choose from and its got a super cool vibe! Have fun exploring Brussels!
I absolutely love your videos but I do want to say one thing: properly cooked brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious! Most people try to boil them but prepared with butter in a pan is the tasty way. Dietary fat is not the bad guy it is made out to be.
Ghent, Brugges, and Antwerp are all easy day trips from Brussels and worth seeing. don't forget to see the Manneken Pis two blocks off the Grand Place in Brussels.
So glad to see you, Gabriel! I'd love to go to Belgium some day. It's where a few of my favorite foreign movies are filmed. Thanks for all the cool info on the country. fyi. I love brussel sprouts now that I cut them in half and saute them inside down in oil and vegan butter! Love the new intro, safe travels!!!
I saw the hotel, I was staying in, (at about 11:35) when I was in Brussels a few years back. And have seen all the things you are filming. Nice to see again.
the food is soooo much better once you cross the border from the Netherlands to Belgium. The Netherlands food just sucks unless its Indonesian 'Rijsttafel' or rice table which is a selection of Asian-style vegetable and meat dishes served in the middle of a lazy susan type table so everyone gets a chance to taste all the dishes. I hate the custom of eating mayonnaise with pommes frites. I love Brussels Sprouts, especially in Spring when they are small and tender. Even the food at the gas stations in Belgium is better than the food in restaurants in the Netherlands.
Well , nowerdays food in the Netherlands has improved a lot but still Belgium cuisine is top in the world! You might compare the Netherlands to England. Food is more sober as is the mentality. (infrastructure and citybuilding in The Netherlands are way better in Holland though, but yeah you can't eat roads..)
@@jlust6660 However can you hate a country with so much history and fabulous old cities. There's soberness and modesty. Belgians are too modest in my opinion....
Hi Gabriel, Let me tell you I really enjoy watching these videos. I get you want to take a break but they are still eye opening on what you see and do there while traveling. The food portion of the video is interesting as always.
Ferry must have been at Zeebrugge indeed. Is the only city where you can take a ferry to England. And Brussels sprouts = spruiten in Flemish and chou de Bruxelles in French and Rosenkohl in German. 😊
We've been enjoying your walks for many years now. Hope you'll be traveling again soon. In the meantime I'm adding virtual walks with natural sound, for a 'being there' experience. Hope they help wanderlust in some small way?
That’s awesome 😎 I was there 6 weeks ago, and it’s def a pretty cool city to explore 🤙🏼 don’t forget about the famous Belgium waffles , they delicious 🤤 have fun Mr Gabe 🤗☀️🌴
Hello Gabriel, I don't know how long you will be staying in Brussels. If you are still there by tomorrow, try to go to this flea market/swap meet located right by the Midi train station. It is called "Marche du Midi" and it offers great food at very affordable prices. There is a place that sells some of the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had and great prices. You might also want to try turkish pancakes, moroccan pancakes, and more. It is a very cool place to visit and it only happens every Sunday. Here is the address: Boulevard du Middi 1000, Brussels. It is right outside midi train station(south train station). I hope you can make it and let us know how did you like it. Great travels to you Gabriel!
Belle Bruxelles, my home town! I love when you try to explain the weird, convoluted culture of Belgium. Yes, the capital is fully in the Flemish region, yet the majority of the population identifies as francophone. The three official languages are Dutch (but everyone speaks the flemish dialect), French (but everyone speaks the walloon dialect) and German, but everyone speaks English! We're honestly just a hot mess.
Are you going to Mechelen? Its in Antwerp, if you do you should climb the bell tower in the medieval cathedral, it is so old the stairs are worn away in parts!
Funny watching this as a Belgian. Central station was to the left of where you were pointing at 😉, yes sprouts are eaten in winter and kids hate them, fries are BELGIAN totally 💪🏻 Another square? It is the most beautiful market square in the world (grand place) and behind the strawberries was a gorgeous gallery street too, The main cathedral was indeed BRUSSELS most beautiful town hall 😂. You forgot Manneken Pis (the peeing boy) 😀 which is just off the central market square.
I wonder how many tourist pictures and videos I've been in because I live near gare centrale and always see people that seem to be filming on their phones.. great job capturing Brussels!
Fun when vloggers unintentionally show shots of hotels where I’ve stayed...the square with the music. 👍 BTW across from the church you featured is the most famous cheese shop in all of Belgium serving the best sandwiches in the country. Tonton Garby...deserves the hype. Excellent Brussels walk.
Great to see you back.. don't leave it too long before you get to Greece to re charge your batteries and you need to get acquainted with Brussel sprouts they are great when cooked well..
Gabe come to Malaga, Spain sometime, on the south coast. You can stay with me anytime if you want some rural seclusion, but its only 30 mins to the coast. Well that was a surprise. I thought that if we saw a video at all it would be from Greece. I didn’t think that you could go to Europe and not make some videos. I guess i was right about that. You can still enjoy your quasi vacation maybe cutting back to editing once a week or so. I can’t see you skipping a day without shooting video. Belgium looks like fun. Enjoy the city. Here’s a task for you. Godiva is a fine Belgian Chocolate company. I heard that it is actually made by, or owned by Campbells soup. See if you can verify that with the locals. Chicken Noodle Chocolate doesn’t seem very appealing.
Love the old church you visited. You tube channel Brothers of Decay are based in Belgium. There are alot of interesting abandoned churches in Belgium to be seen on their channel. Also an exquisite abandoned opera house/theatre in Belgium that is being restored. I would love to visit Belgium one day. Thanks for sharing🐱
The square you visited is defined as being the most beautiful "place" worldwide and is called Grand' Place. It gathers all the medieval gildes houses. On the roof of each house you will find a statue defining its gilde. I hope you had the opportunity to visit the Sablon and the European parlement. Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but is also the capital of Europe and NATO headquarters :-) As such it is defined as being the most cosmopolitan city thanks to the melting pot of nationalities and cultures. Love from Brussels :-)
Welcome to Belgium Gabe! I'm flemish and I live just outside Brussels. You've done your homework well! I didn't hear any wrong facts so far 😁 Oh and try to go to delirium bar, it's a multiple floor bar in a dead end alley that serves over 1000 kinds of beer!
@@GabrielTravelerVideos make sure to visit the big delirium because there are several different bars. It's in the alley where the female version of Manneken Pis is, she's called 'Jeanneke Pis'.
No wrong facts but it must be a first that someone mistakes the Brussels town hall for a cathedral. Though the "Tourist Central" designation is spot on.
I’m psyched about the playlists but it must have been a lot of work to organize. It will be great to load up a country when I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I’m headed to Portugal in October and South America early next year so those will be up first. Thanks!
Hi Gabriel, when you are going to Greece (my alltime favorite holiday country ) try to book a flight from Amsterdam withTransavia only €86 one way on 11 and 13 september or to Crete Chania€59 on september 2 or 9. You should def. hike the Samaria Gorge in Crete. Love to see you in Greece again, I started backpacking in my twenties in Greece.about 35 years ago and have seen a lot of the Greek Islands. And even nowadays going to Greece on holidays. Safe travels!
Great video. I wonder will you be doing voice over now with shorter more intensive street footage like the endless adventurers and Flying the nest. Have you tried using the free software "Shotcut or Filmora" to edit your videos?
OldTimeNewb Some shops make a habit of "closing down" all the time. It is a popular method to circumvent the regulated sales periods. Another great one is "everything has to go before refurbishments"
First of all, French Fries are BELGIAN Fries! Ours are better :p (that's what I think) And there's a story in which Americans tried fries for the first time, and supposed he was in France so called it French Fries, but we can now tell that he was in the north of Belgium but... that's just a story. In French, we also call Belgian sprouts : "choux de Bruxelles" and I personally hate it. You can see on some windows the pun "Sprout to be Brussels" :)
Brussel sprouts are also called "choux de Bruxelles" in French😄. I tried your link for Roku, arrived on the page to sign in or create an account, but couldn't find your channel...I was using my laptop. Enjoy Brussels !
Great video Gabriel, thanks! Don't forget to drink a 'Westmalle'! In one of your Amsterdam (or Haarlem) videos, you ordered it and thought it was one of the best beers you ever had. As Westmalle is from Belgium, it would be a great way to chillax!
You know Brussels is only a stones throw away from Dublin, and yet I totally dismissed it as a destination of interest. The Belgian tourist authority should pay you for this video. By the way, I love brussel sprouts lol.
Adam Hovey i will tell you something. Sure, you have couple of capitals that are more beautiful in terms of architecture and that have more touristic attractions. However, Brussels is one of the best European city to live in - not being a simple tourist. It is a city worth seeing because people are great and welcoming and the atmosphere is really nice. It all depends on what you look for - a small trip to visit on the surface or an extended trip to really spend time living and experiencing.
Adam Hovey as a European, I hear so many times foreigners mentioning Paris and the likes. Paris is great to visit because it is beautiful architecturally and have some places of interest. However, Parisian are the worst kind of people and it is quite unsafe. Paris is maybe one of the worst city to live in. So it all depends on what you look for but saying Brussels if of complète no interest is wrong.
Adam, having lived here for 4 months, I can tell you that I am so surprised that it isn't more well known as a tourist destination. It is am amazing city with so much to see and do. For me and my partner, every weekend is like going on holiday.
Hi ! I live in Brussels so I wanted to explain some things :) The building you showed to be the station was wrong it was on your left and there you have the train-metro-bus station ! The big area you arrived is "La grand place de Bruxelles" is actually the most touristic place of brussels with the Mannekenpis a few meter away in one of the streets (it's a little guy who is the "guardian" of Brussels. And yes we called them Brussel sprouts (Les choux de Bruxelles) but we don't eat them so much in Belgium want most of the poeple don't like them 😂
Love this type of video of yours, where you don't really know where you are going, it's just a first day wander for you to see your new area. Walking a new city is such a buzz; seeing architecture, parks, landmarks and noting super markets, cafes, train stations and such. Walk on Gabriel.

I’m psyched about the playlists but it must have been a lot of work to organize. It will be great to load up a country when I’m on the treadmill at the gym. I’m headed to Portugal in October and South America early next year so those will be up first. Thanks!
Great, enjoy.
Next time you're in Brussels, please gimme a call, I'll show you around....
Hi Gabriel, when you are going to Greece (my alltime favorite holiday country ) try to book a flight from Amsterdam withTransavia only €86 one
way on 11 and 13 september or to Crete Chania€59 on september 2 or 9.
You should def. hike the Samaria Gorge in Crete.
Love to see you in Greece again, I started backpacking in my twenties in Greece.about 35 years ago and have seen a lot of the Greek Islands.
And even nowadays going to Greece on holidays.
Safe travels!
You should check out Ghent, Antwerp, or Brugge if you have time. You probably took the ferry to dover from brugge, calais or dunkirk.
Great video. Thanks man.
i love your videos!!
Even if you make a 2 hour video, I would like to see it every second. Love from Udaipur rajasthan. 🙏
Thanks, appreciate it. Udaipur is a nice city, though I haven't been there since 1999, my first time to India.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos If you ever come to Udaipur, I would like to meet you in the head
Great video. I wonder will you be doing voice over now with shorter more intensive street footage like the endless adventurers and Flying the nest. Have you tried using the free software "Shotcut or Filmora" to edit your videos?
1:59 The signs say Liquidation Totale, Totale Uitverkoop. That means "Everything has to go". That cool store is closing down soon. ;-(
my own translation I guess literally says Completely out they go?
Not necessarily . Such slogans are often used during sales (aka solden) when they liquidate old stock to make room for new one.
Oh, I didn't know that. Learned something, thanks!
OldTimeNewb Some shops make a habit of "closing down" all the time. It is a popular method to circumvent the regulated sales periods. Another great one is "everything has to go before refurbishments"
First of all, French Fries are BELGIAN Fries! Ours are better :p (that's what I think)
And there's a story in which Americans tried fries for the first time, and supposed he was in France so called it French Fries, but we can now tell that he was in the north of Belgium but... that's just a story.
In French, we also call Belgian sprouts : "choux de Bruxelles" and I personally hate it. You can see on some windows the pun "Sprout to be Brussels" :)
Lot's of things to do as well here in Brussels! :-)
Nice video and walk-through ! :-D
Brussel sprouts are also called "choux de Bruxelles" in French😄. I tried your link for Roku, arrived on the page to sign in or create an account, but couldn't find your channel...I was using my laptop. Enjoy Brussels !
Thanks. I guess you have to use the Roku app on a TV or something like that.
Is that a new intro? Sweet dude.
Yes, those were all clips from my last trip to Hawaii and Asia.
I love your videos!!
Great video Gabriel, thanks! Don't forget to drink a 'Westmalle'! In one of your Amsterdam (or Haarlem) videos, you ordered it and thought it was one of the best beers you ever had. As Westmalle is from Belgium, it would be a great way to chillax!
Exactly. I'll definitely have one again while I'm here.
You know Brussels is only a stones throw away from Dublin, and yet I totally dismissed it as a destination of interest. The Belgian tourist authority should pay you for this video.
By the way, I love brussel sprouts lol.
I keep reading that it's the most boring city in Europe, but that can't possibly be true. The architecture is really nice.
Concerning the Brussels Sprouts, in french we say Brussels Sprouts, in Flemish we just say small sprouts.
Thanks, good to know!
Menteur! Brussels sprouts are awesome, and you know it, greetings from South Carolina.
Hey there hows it going GrandDaddy of travel world is back ! How bout a bakery or chocolate tour in next video
And yes we called them Brussel sprouts (Les choux de Bruxelles) but we don't eat them so much in Belgium want most of the poeple don't like them 😂
Thanks!
I can highly recommend the City of Ghent Gabe, very historical city.
