Seems to me listening to Billy, particularly on that concert he did with his Dad, that his rhythm playing is about 50% chords and 50% fills and that is what makes it so good when he plays with others. I look forward to starting to work on this lesson.
Nice. I feel us guys who have no bluegrass community near by have an extra hurdle in learning bluegrass - nobody else to play it with. Well done. Still interested in how your Boucher BG-42 is going. I've got a nice BG-52 - but often picking up the mahogany D-18 GE these days as well. The thing about Billy is he really hits those strings. I'm kind of naturally a lighter player - and the precision required to get those fills/crosspicks and other bits of Billy style flatpicking is extremely difficult, particularly if you're getting anywhere near the speed he plays at. I like you're points about the dynamics here too...
