Both sound good, but the pickups on the 421 sound better. Just put them in the rga42fm

I'm bookmarking this just to learn that nice progression and those licks! Both guitars sound really nice, excellent playing. Think I'll get the 42FM, literally, and I can afford a Prestige or whatever, but why to just play in the basement during my retirement. Great work, thank you.
I would just turn the bass and mids up a bit more on the amp with the rga42fm and it would be the same sound with a minimal difference which would save me the $ 300 extra

The Rg421HPFM has a more distinct definition for sure. The question is "is it worth the $300 extra for it?" The Gloss finish and the upgraded pickups I think does. Love the clean comparison and style before the overdrive. Most of the videos are distortion for the whole comparison. Great Job! The RGA has a great spot in the food chain for it's price point as well.
The rg421 sounds more open, snappy. The rga (relatively) sounds muddier, less top end but still sounds ok. As the others have said its the pickups

Sound wise, there's no comparison between the Dimarzios on the 421HP... That's the tone you hear on your favourite 80s music. Sorry Liddle Quantum's on the RGA42... I wish you were more articulate. But that guitar is still a pleasure to play
Here in canda it''s a $660 price difference between the two and for $230 you could buy the pickups that are in RG421HPFM and buy the Dragon Eye Burst Flat and save $430.
This is what in doing haha. The blue gradient is nice but I prefer the flat finish. The dragon eye is pretty cool though. Will be putting in a Seymour duncan distortion and jazz pickup and it's right around 1000

The 421 has fusion pickups. I absolutely love those. I have them in my RGiX6DLB and they are just awesome sounding. The RGA42FM has quantum pickups. I have the RG421PB which also has the quantum pickups. They sound good but I prefer fusions all the way. I could not hear as much of a difference hear but when I play these guitars at home it is quite pronounced.
Those are not fusion edge pockups, those are tone zone and air norton
@@aakaashbulani9237 I stand corrected. I got it confused with the 2020 RG421HP which came stock with the Fusion Edge Pickups. I also love that set.
Got both of them. The new breed of guitars that kick ass. Great modd platforms as well.

Ibanez 421hpfm has a coil tap switch to get that twangy sound of a single coil guitar..
If one can afford then buy the rg421 otherwise buy the rga42fm it still sounds beautiful and does the job for less money..
Rga don't have a coil tap switch..
I currently play the schecter demon 6fr and omen extreme
Blue one is better, brighter and less mud sound. I bought it and the autumn red one.
the rga42fm isn’t exactly the same league since there’s high performance rgas too

Tell you what bud, you can play that guitar. Those lead tones are awesome.
Dimarzio pickups better than quantum’s hands down
They both have their pro's and con's. The RGS42 sounds better clean. You could use the RGA42FM for the clean and the other one for its crunch. It has a bright crunch. Just a little thought for a video..
Hp def more open though most of demo but the many hundreds more it costs I don’t know if the pups are worth it .if need be (which I wouldn’t ,id adjust the amp to brighten it up) you could upgrade pups in rga I’d think for much less .
RG 421 HP has Tone Zone and Air Norton pups.So the RGA with Quantums sounds dam good.So nice played.Thx.

The RG421 is muddier. Quantums are clear and defined and I'm done pretending they're not.

Clean the RG was better when it was distorted I really couldn't tell

@@peaner083Sorry this is late but the newer 42fm will be a much better playing experience overall but if you want a tremolo the 42T is a solid choice. A little less versatile and much less good looking!
