      I genuinely feel so sad for girls like that, cause it’s all just internalised misogyny. It’s like they feel the need to present themselves as someone men will approve of instead of being able to be themselves. (Ofc there are women who don’t really like overly feminine aesthetics, but still support their friends who do!!)

She wasn’t smart at all (even had struggles to read because her family was very poor, and they needed to chose between new dress for ballroom or education and you know….16th century. Like the only music teacher for her what they afforded was pedephile.) but still, a queen. Even if most irrelevant among other wives of her husband……I know what she and Anne Boleyn were cousins and Anne grow up very rich, but cmon don’t you have poor and rich parr’s of family?

    I think you totally nailed the idea behind why we are liking this style now. It almost feels rebellious to be super feminine even though there was once a time when dressing this way was the status quo and like the complete opposite of a rebellion. Its rebellious now though for the reasons you said, and it also functions as kind of a man repellent since so many of them now are like “ew thats too much makeup you’re clearly high maintenance and shallow i only like natural girls” and personally i like it because i LIKE that people underestimate me and my intelligence because of how i look, it makes it all the more satisfying when i prove them wrong and show them that being ultra feminine does not equal being vapid

But if people expecially men start to think I'm high maintenance I'm going to laugh at them. I hardly ever style my hair, I can survive off of nothing for days because of my adhd and autism. As in I wear the same outfit, eat the same dish etc for days in a row and I wouldn't care. So I'm the entire opposite despite pulling up sometimes wearing bright pink and lilac makeup with white eyeliner on.

    The “not like other girls” thing is so true. In elementary school I was such a girly girl and loved all things pink and feminine and then our culture became weirdly anti-feminine again and I stopped liking girly things. What 10 year old would want to be hyper feminine when movies like mean girls and high school musical frame the hot pink blonde valley girl as a megabitch? I really hate that society became that way because it stole a part of my identity and childhood because for years I associated girlyness with materialism and narcissism

    I was always traditionally feminine but I also had a lot of tomboyish interests that I shared with my brother so I was kind of stuck between worlds. I constantly received the message that half of my personality was automatically weak, shallow, dumb, and mean even though I knew that wasn’t true. I managed to avoid buying into it enough to give up and join the not-like-other-girls crowd but it still affects you.
    The older I get, the more I realize that bashing femininity is blatant misogyny regardless of whether you’re hearing it from a dudebro telling you that women who wear visible makeup are sluts who try too hard or a certain subset of feminist telling you that you’re betraying your entire sex by not completely rejecting anything associated with a traditional gender role. Being yourself is the most rebellious act you can do when everyone wants to control you, whether that true self is Barbie pink, hard butch, or anything in between

    I love pink

  • @hihilt2589
    @hihilt2589 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    The only reason why I ever hated barbie, honestly, was that everyone just immediately assumed that since I'm AFAB I must absolutely love her, love everything pink, love everything sparkly and girly. It wasn't even about smarts vs looks, it was "you're a girl and girls must like pink so you must like barbie". It left a very sour taste in my mouth and basically became THE icon, within my personal life, of only being perceived as what my genitals say rather than what I am as a person.
    Also, for context, I'm trans

      @J4CKS0N_D34R3ST ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@middleeasternforhire8985 AFAB stands for Assigned Female At Birth, AMAB is Assigned Male At Birth, it's basically what you were born as and is mostly used by transgender people if their gender doesn't fit how they were born.
      Hope this explains it, sorry if your comment was a joke.

    • @J4CKS0N_D34R3ST
      @J4CKS0N_D34R3ST ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here, I've slowly seperated certain things from the forced femininity but, even if I've stopped hating her I'll never like Barbie, she's the route and staple of what so many people wished I could be.
      Most of these issues come from my own experience as a trans/enby person but also some other things that Barbie (e.g being darker skinned, being a 'former gifted child', being a bit overweight) always showed I was less for.

    • @hihilt2589
      @hihilt2589 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@J4CKS0N_D34R3ST oh yeah, that's also definitely a part of it. It's only recently that Barbie has started to be more inclusive...

    • @J4CKS0N_D34R3ST
      @J4CKS0N_D34R3ST ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hihilt2589 yea, I've seen a lot more variety in Barbie recently but the dolls all follow basically the same body type and could definitely still be expanded, like I've only really seen 2-4 different skin colours/patterns (Barbie white, a slightly different pale completion, black, and a doll with vitiligo) despite frequenting local toy stores.
      I have representation for a decent bit of who I am but I hope they continue getting a more diverse cast of dolls and becoming a realistic brand that represents more people and promotes being yourself.

    Ngl, us ladies HIGH KEY did it to ourselves first, wanting to be "the strong ones" it's like we demonized ❤femininity❤ slandering it as "weak" for a long time, then _some_ guys played along not liking girly girls anymore bc they were then considered "lame" and then multiple generations just followed suit. It's sad really, our 💜femininity🏌🏾‍♀️ is a 🎉God 🎉given 🎉Essence 🎉, a glorious thing of you will, and the fact that we associated it with weakness to be more like "one of the guys" was just _tragic_ 😔

    I love how Barbie is known for loving pink and being femiene but is the literal definition of feminism, since Barbie was created in 1959, aka after the war had ended and women were expected to go back to being housewives after working the jobs the men would normally work before they went off to war, but then in came Barbie, wearing a black and white "skimpy" swimsuit, telling young girls you dont need a man and that women in the workplace are now a permanent thing, which shows that you can be anyone and still be a feminist and fight for women's rights, love you Barbie!
