    I started the video thinking the explanation was a bit long and drawn out but really good point made near the end about avoiding limiting yourself by only sticking to these guidelines, well concluded. Big up!

      Hey RoBBed! So happy you dig this lesson! Yes, I am VERY thorough ;o) There is just SOOO much you can do with the Camelot Wheel that its just a lot to explain, especially in a way that's understandable for those DJs who don't have a background in traditional music theory. Not to mention, this is the 'Complete DJ Method' so I def wanna make sure I cover every nook and cranny in these lessons for you guys! Thanks so much for watching :)

    hey shortee!
    awesome tutorial as always really well spoken, informative, great and reasonable examples. i enjoy watching them alot theres really nothing compareable on youtube! you deserve way more recognition in my opinion :) keep up the good work!
    but with all the tutorials could you still help me out somehow? i dont know where to start to dj or if it makes any sence how do you choose your head phones computer the mixing decks and so on because i am starting at zero. i live in berlin and love music and love goin to the club and always admire good djs how they are able to move the crowd and make an awesome night for everyone. i dont want and probably wont be a worldstar dj just hobby wise for couple friends a homeparty here and there. where and how did you start? what would you suggest on buying first? iam currently using my phone to learn the basics. with djay2 and its working quite fine i enjoy mixing alot its just really unhandy.. i was thinking about something like he pioneer ddj wego 4k or something with headphones
    cheers and thanks :)

    This is very helpful but I have to ask; instead of rotating the Camelot wheel counter-clockwise by 5 steps, why not just have named C as 12b and Am as 12A? Seems to have needlessly complicated things.

    • @CompleteDJMethod
      @CompleteDJMethod  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Blane! Thanks so much for the question. What you are saying makes sense to me, and coming from a traditional music background myself, I pondered the same thing. I wish I could tell you but that would be a question for Mark Davis who created the Camelot Wheel System: www.harmonic-mixing.com/howto.aspx . If you find out why please let me know!
      Cheers,
      Shortee

      Heh!. Will do. And thanks again for the tutorial. I've incorporated it into my digital mixing ever since I saw it. It's made choosing the next mix in a set so much less of a chore. Not been able to do it with vinyl as there's no key lock on the pitch controller on a 1210. Technics, take note :)

    Hey Shortee, what about Key Sync and Key shift?

    • @CompleteDJMethod
      @CompleteDJMethod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, apologies but I'm not quite sure what you're asking. This is a video on how to use the Camelot Wheel for manual harmonic mixing with or without DJ software. It's not intended to teach how various software platforms might sync/shift the keys for you. Hope that makes sense. ;)

    SO what keys can I mix with 7A? Which ones are compatible?

    • @CompleteDJMethod
      @CompleteDJMethod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest compatible keys are 6A, 8A and 7B. You can also try 5A, 9A, 6B and 8B. There are other possible compatible keys too...so just use the formulas in the video to figure out the rest that aren't as common ;0) Regardless, make sure you listen to them all together before deciding what works best for ya! Hope that helps!

    What if the bpm is different for example 118bpm and 162bpm can i still use if the key works?

    • @CompleteDJMethod
      @CompleteDJMethod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! As long as you're using the KEY LOCK setting to lock the original keys in place, you can speed up or slow down the tracks and still mix harmonically using the original key. However, if you pitch the songs up or down from the original bpm and you aren't using key log, the keys will shift so you'll have to do some tricky math in your head to fgure out how the keys are transposing. Moral of the story: Use KEY LOCK in your DJ software or on your decks if they offer that feature! ;) Hope that helps!

      Hey Neomi! This free lesson is part of a larger Mixed In Key training program available in my Complete DJ Method that's for sale on Groove3. Here is a direct link to purchase the full course where you can watch the rest of the videos:
      "THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO MIXED IN KEY": snip.ly/e0y08
      Although, if you wanna check out another freebie from this course, I also explain some of the music theory behind why these methods work in the way that they do. In fact,, I recommend that you also watch the "Circle of Fifths" video first (if you haven't already), which goes deeper into the theory and intended to be the pre-requisite to this "Camelot Wheel" lesson: th-cam.com/video/GjJzha-4IOw/w-d-xo.html
