"the royalties were coming in like crazy". Stephen, have you done a video on "royalty accounting" or "auditing" (is all I can call it, perhaps there is a specialised name?)? What I mean is when a company starts producing your idea, how do you track or ensure you're getting your correct amount of royalties? Any company can (in theory) simply say we produced and sold x amount and here's a payment of 5000 USD for that month... then (if you were able to audit that truthfully) you find they produced 10 times as many and they should have paid you 50k, not 5! (for example). How does one track or audit something like that?
@NonyaBusiness! Get to know the companies and get the companies to know you. Have more than one idea. Work on getting trust. If you're a one-idea inventor it's extremely difficult. They need to know that if they treat you badly you'll stop showing them more good ideas in the future. NDA's are a good start
Yup I mean if they do what you claim, it would be fraud, so it's less likely they will commit fraud than not for your licensing agreement, however perhaps a strategy is to target a public company, even then they often don't report individual product sales and comes a different set of problems

Hi Stephen, maybe you could do a video about what you need to prepare for in steps about your invention/innovation.. before you start contacting companies.
Hi Niall. There are quite a few steps you should take to license an idea before contacting companies. Here's an article Stephen wrote that outlines the process. "How to Launch a Product Without Starting a Business": www.inc.com/stephen-key/how-to-launch-a-product-without-starting-a-business.html. We have many videos about each of these steps. Thank you for watching.
Great information, I guess you really know the right people to contact and the right process to follow to make this happen, which I lack and want to learn. I have some great ideas just don’t know where to start and license. Congrats 👍
You say to just make a sketch and then go to a company and see if they like it or not, but if they like it they could just tell you they don't and then start producing it without paying you
Glad to see u on here now I have a few ideas and a couple I think would fly off the shelf. But they need to be injection mold or 3D printed but not sure if I could feasibly get it done like that especially with the kind of volume. is there any way to prevent someone or a company from stealing your idea & not giving you credit when you send it in to them to see if they like it when it isn't copyrighted? I'm paranoid of revealing any original ideas

You’re the best Mike!
I LOVED!!! this video. Thank you so much for doing it. Straight to the point an informative. I have tons wonderful ideals and this helped me.
Awesome. You may enjoy reading Stephen's bestselling book about licensing, which can be found on Amazon and in libraries in the United States: amazon.com/One-Simple-Idea-Revised-Expanded/dp/1259589676
Great video! You've given me great motivation to get things done, just started and got a few spreadsheets set up with companies to call.. I need to figure out the PPA process for the UK though
Thank you Daniel!
Steven's the man! Thanks for the info
Great video! What did you tell the companies when you went to show them your products?
Keep watching the videos!
the amount of trust you had just sending this information off to these companies is astonishing. Seems to have been your super power ! I feel like the honesty and integrity, what little companies had, is almost completely gone.... maybe thats just me making excuses though ! haha
Obstacles or opportunities! You are what you think!
Thank you Stephen !
Thank you!
thanks for sharing your experiences. I don't subscribe to anyone but did it for you.
But there's no subscription mark next to your name! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for Insights!
You are so welcome
Thank you for the video, it was what I needed.
Great information, I guess you really know the right people to contact and the right process to follow to make this happen, which I lack and want to learn. I have some great ideas just don’t know where to start and license. Congrats 👍
Thanks for sharing love you energy.
Mark Ross thank you!
Do i need to licence it even if its a small idea?
before licensing, do you get a patent? If not, what stops anyone else to invent your idea?
You say to just make a sketch and then go to a company and see if they like it or not, but if they like it they could just tell you they don't and then start producing it without paying you
Glad to see u on here now I have a few ideas and a couple I think would fly off the shelf. But they need to be injection mold or 3D printed but not sure if I could feasibly get it done like that especially with the kind of volume. I am big fan and I did buy your book it was put together like no other.
Thank you for reading!
Thank you Steve for the insight, plus for put to bed the lingering thought since the past upload about about the 53 cent royalties check. :)
Thank you!
is there any way to prevent someone or a company from stealing your idea & not giving you credit when you send it in to them to see if they like it when it isn't copyrighted? I'm paranoid of revealing any original ideas
There's no one way to prevent someone from stealing your ideas; there are many ways of establishing your ownership. This is one of our specialties, and we have created a lot of videos and articles on how to do so. Here are some:

Hi Thank you very much this is very informative. Can you please clear something up for me please: What if I have an idea and I send it off to a company and they like the idea but tweak it and steal my idea? What are my rights if I did not patent that idea before I sent it to them?
Great info, very inspiring.
Love love your videos!!! Did you invent Teddy Ruxpin???? I see him on your shelf behind you.
He helped bring him to market! Stephen was Manager of Design at the startup Worlds of Wonder, the company that licensed the idea of Teddy Ruxpin from a very talented inventor named Ken Forsse.
Thanks Stephen that was very helpful 👍
