The embarrassing part of this for Touko is that Syo cleans Yuri up but cleans TOUKO up too in the process. Like… “When it comes to my racier tastes..” “You stutter a single sentence…” “Sinking low in shame, got the bookworm’s eye view” “Your depressive obsession was just in vain” Like, you can’t even go hard enough at Yuri SPECIFICALLY that you hit your damn alter in the crossfire? It’s really cool! In the MvHQ behind the scenes I believe Dustin explained that it’s meant to represent the Dokis’ transition from being just characters in a game to having their code manipulated and gaining self-awareness
I still find the lyrics to be so clever and well researched for this, everything from the play-on-words to referencing some more obscure things like the tally marks and questionable stains on Yuri’s poem. Literally every line is a genius reference lol, and the voice acting is amazing, too!

Without a doubt, Toko won. While Yuri got a few points, she wasn't the best to fight a serial killer. Because Genocide Jack cut her up quicker than any paper.

Here are the references I loved in this: 1. Yuri’s reference to Toko’s braids being the only “tales” (tails) she knows 2. Toko’s reference to both Monicas 3. Toko’s reference to how genocide isn’t shy like the racer girl when I comes to insults 4. Toko referencing Yuri’s name. Because in Japanese it technically means lesbian. So she’s saying she can’t get guys because she’s gay. 5. “Portrait to mark off” which references one of Yuri’s books called “portrait of markov” 6. Toko says “sinking low in shame, got the bookworm’s eye view” which means that she’s looking hard at Toko’s verses because she needs pointers, and also about Yuri’s death and Yuri’s personality. 7. Toko references alter-ego in one of the last lines which says that Monica altered Yuri’s ego by making her more psychotic 8. At the very end, Toko says her obsession wasn’t entirely pointless, because Yuri does at the end of it lol.

Most people say Toko, but I say Yuri for her second verse, for me both verses matter the most and thats what make it excellent. I feel like Toko repeated herself in the second verse, if she hadn’t used all her materials in the first verse and saved some for the second verse, I would said she won, but she didn’t so Imma give this crown to Yuri, you guys can say it’s Toko though

I’m a huge fan of DDLC and Danganronpa so I can’t just go with favoritism. So with that said, Toko won for me. While she had Genocide Jack’s help for a lot of it, she made some valid statements, and her raps were fire. Yuri did well too but I feel like if she had done a little bit better, she could’ve matched Toko and it would’ve been harder for me to decide a winner. However, that’s not the case, so Toko wins for me.
Oh, Toko absolutely wrote the rhymes but only Jill had the bravery to lay them down without stuttering Then again the Teletubby Club lines were kinda augmented by the stutters

As someone who knows both of these characters, this was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. “Portrait to mark off”, “third eye, four-eyes”, and the “framed you” flip was excellent. I’d give this to Yuri but I absolutely loved both. I think this is actually my single favorite of your battles out of all of them.
Holy SHIT by far one of the tensest battles you've ever crafted. The flow and build up throughout every single verse is astronomical. Ken and Chi brought their absolute ALL and portrayed these characters so beautifully. It's literally fucking insane what you were able to do here and the animation in the last verses caught me so off guard ugh. The beat. HELP ME. CLEAN!!!!!!!
EXPLAINING THE PUNCHLINES: 0:19 - 0:26 = Toko gets rejected, aka 'ghosted', by the guy she has a crush on. In DDLC, Yuri writes a poem called 'Ghost Under the Light'. 0:27 - 0:35 = Toko was locked in a closet as a child, 'skeletons in your closet' is a phrase which means secrets or trauma. 0:38 - 0:43 = Toko changes into her alter-ego Genocide Jack when she sneezes, who kills people with scissors similar to how Sweeney Todd kills with a razor. 0:53 - 0:57 = Not sure about this one, Toko might be calling Yuri spineless, because Yuri explains in DDLC that she has back pain because of her boobs. 0:58 - 1:06 = Don't know about the Teletubbies comparison here, Toko might be calling the literature club childish. Tinky Winky is a Teletubby and Yuri in Act 2 has some extreme kinks, making 'Kinky Winky'. 1:06 - 1:09 = There's a character called Monaca in Danganronpa UDG, and Toko/Genocide Jack has to destroy her pawns. Monika is also a character in DDLC, and Yuri being controlled by her could make her Monika's pawn. 1:09 - 1:14 = A mechanic in DDLC is deleting the characters' files in the actual game's files, which Monika does to Yuri to delete her from DDLC. 1:14 - 1:17 = Yuri is a Japanese genre which means love between two girls, in DDLC Yuri is not able to make the player character love her. 1:17 - 1:21 = Doki-Doki is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a heartbeat, so Toko is saying Yuri's lines are so flat she thinks that she's dead. When a character dies in Danganronpa, their presence in the courtroom is replaced by a portrait of their face, with a red X over it. In DDLC, Yuri reads a book called 'Portrait of Markov' which is important to the meta lore of the game. 1:25 - 1:29 = Bird's-eye view is a phrase which means a view fron directly above something, so a worm's-eye view would be from the ground, because Yuri is sinking low in shame. She combines this with bookworm, because Yuri reads a lot. 1:29 - 1:33 = In DDLC, Yuri makes banners for a festival. Genocide Jack uses scissors to kill people. In Act 2, Yuri gets heavily obsessed with a poem the MC gives her and presumably masturbates to it. 'Get your rocks off' is a phrase that means to orgasm. So Toko combines these three things to make a rock-paper-scissors punchline. 1:33 - 1:37 = In Act 2 of DDLC, Yuri steals a pen that the MC drops and uses it to masturbate with. 1:44 - 1:47 = "Nobody would cry if she killed herself" is a line that Yuri says about Natsuki in Act 2 of DDLC, which we later find out was Monika reprogramming Yuri's text to get the MC to hate her. 1:47 - 1:55 = In Case 2 of Danganronpa, Togami, who Toko has a crush on, framed her for murder by revealing her identity as Genocide Jack. In the bad ending for Danganronpa in Case 5, we see the possible future of the students and Toko is not there, with Togami holding up a frame portrait of her instead. 1:55 - 1:59 = Toko was asked out in middle school out of nowhere by a boy she didn't know. She spent three days planning for the date but she then found out he only asked her out because he lost a bet. 1:59 - 2:03 = Third Eye is a concept in DDLC which has yet to be explained fully, but the premise is that it allows people/characters to realise that they are in a simulation. 'Your Reality' is the ending credits song of DDLC, sung by Monika. Genocider Sho, or Syo, is the original Japanese name of Genocide Jack. At the end of Danganronpa 1, it's revealed that everything that happened was being streamed to the outside world on TV. This could also be referring to the ending of Danganronpa V3, where it's revealed that the whole series has been fiction (inside the Danganronpa universe, a second layer of fiction), and so Toko would just be a reality show character to the 'real' people in Danganronpa. Yuri is telling Toko to awaken to her Third Eye to realise she is a fictional character. EXCEPTIONALLY layered line btw, definitely my favourite. 2:03 - 2:06 = Genocide Jack carves a tally on her leg after every person she kills. 2:06 - 2:10 = "I gently open the door" is an infamous DDLC line which is the line directly before the Sayori hanging scene. Sayori hung herself after getting rejected by the MC, so Yuri tells Toko not to get 'hung up' on her rejection by Togami. She also plays on Jack's Japanese name, Syo. 2:10 - 2:15 = In DDLC, Yuri pees on a poem, calling it 'endowing it with her scent' and gifts it to the MC. Leon was a character in Danganronpa who killed someone in a bathroom. 2:15 - 2:18 = 'Hit the club floor' means to get onto the dance floor at a club, but Toko takes it literally, saying Yuri hit the floor of the Literature Club after stabbing herself. 2:18 - 2:26 = Alter Ego is a character in Danganronpa who is an Artificial Intelligence, which ties into the themes of DDLC. Monika altered Yuri's ego by making her much more obsessive and mentally unstable. Toko says Yuri's obsession was in vain, but wasn't pointless, because the result of Yuri's obsession was her stabbing herself.

1. Yuri’s reference to Toko’s braids being the only “tales” (tails) she knows
2. Toko’s reference to both Monicas
3. Toko’s reference to how genocide isn’t shy like the racer girl when I comes to insults
4. Toko referencing Yuri’s name. Because in Japanese it technically means lesbian. So she’s saying she can’t get guys because she’s gay.
5. “Portrait to mark off” which references one of Yuri’s books called “portrait of markov”
6. Toko says “sinking low in shame, got the bookworm’s eye view” which means that she’s looking hard at Toko’s verses because she needs pointers, and also about Yuri’s death and Yuri’s personality.
7. Toko references alter-ego in one of the last lines which says that Monica altered Yuri’s ego by making her more psychotic
8. At the very end, Toko says her obsession wasn’t entirely pointless, because Yuri does at the end of it lol.

I’m a huge fan of DDLC and Danganronpa so I can’t just go with favoritism. So with that said, Toko won for me. While she had Genocide Jack’s help for a lot of it, she made some valid statements, and her raps were fire. Yuri did well too but I feel like if she had done a little bit better, she could’ve matched Toko and it would’ve been harder for me to decide a winner. However, that’s not the case, so Toko wins for me.

Holy SHIT by far one of the tensest battles you've ever crafted. The flow and build up throughout every single verse is astronomical. Ken and Chi brought their absolute ALL and portrayed these characters so beautifully. It's literally fucking insane what you were able to do here and the animation in the last verses caught me so off guard ugh. The beat. HELP ME. CLEAN!!!!!!!

EXPLAINING THE PUNCHLINES:
0:19 - 0:26 = Toko gets rejected, aka 'ghosted', by the guy she has a crush on. In DDLC, Yuri writes a poem called 'Ghost Under the Light'.
0:27 - 0:35 = Toko was locked in a closet as a child, 'skeletons in your closet' is a phrase which means secrets or trauma.
0:38 - 0:43 = Toko changes into her alter-ego Genocide Jack when she sneezes, who kills people with scissors similar to how Sweeney Todd kills with a razor.
0:53 - 0:57 = Not sure about this one, Toko might be calling Yuri spineless, because Yuri explains in DDLC that she has back pain because of her boobs.
0:58 - 1:06 = Don't know about the Teletubbies comparison here, Toko might be calling the literature club childish. Tinky Winky is a Teletubby and Yuri in Act 2 has some extreme kinks, making 'Kinky Winky'.
1:06 - 1:09 = There's a character called Monaca in Danganronpa UDG, and Toko/Genocide Jack has to destroy her pawns. Monika is also a character in DDLC, and Yuri being controlled by her could make her Monika's pawn.
1:09 - 1:14 = A mechanic in DDLC is deleting the characters' files in the actual game's files, which Monika does to Yuri to delete her from DDLC.
1:14 - 1:17 = Yuri is a Japanese genre which means love between two girls, in DDLC Yuri is not able to make the player character love her.
1:17 - 1:21 = Doki-Doki is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a heartbeat, so Toko is saying Yuri's lines are so flat she thinks that she's dead. When a character dies in Danganronpa, their presence in the courtroom is replaced by a portrait of their face, with a red X over it. In DDLC, Yuri reads a book called 'Portrait of Markov' which is important to the meta lore of the game.
1:25 - 1:29 = Bird's-eye view is a phrase which means a view fron directly above something, so a worm's-eye view would be from the ground, because Yuri is sinking low in shame. She combines this with bookworm, because Yuri reads a lot.
1:29 - 1:33 = In DDLC, Yuri makes banners for a festival. Genocide Jack uses scissors to kill people. In Act 2, Yuri gets heavily obsessed with a poem the MC gives her and presumably masturbates to it. 'Get your rocks off' is a phrase that means to orgasm. So Toko combines these three things to make a rock-paper-scissors punchline.
1:33 - 1:37 = In Act 2 of DDLC, Yuri steals a pen that the MC drops and uses it to masturbate with.
1:44 - 1:47 = "Nobody would cry if she killed herself" is a line that Yuri says about Natsuki in Act 2 of DDLC, which we later find out was Monika reprogramming Yuri's text to get the MC to hate her.
1:47 - 1:55 = In Case 2 of Danganronpa, Togami, who Toko has a crush on, framed her for murder by revealing her identity as Genocide Jack. In the bad ending for Danganronpa in Case 5, we see the possible future of the students and Toko is not there, with Togami holding up a frame portrait of her instead.
1:55 - 1:59 = Toko was asked out in middle school out of nowhere by a boy she didn't know. She spent three days planning for the date but she then found out he only asked her out because he lost a bet.
1:59 - 2:03 = Third Eye is a concept in DDLC which has yet to be explained fully, but the premise is that it allows people/characters to realise that they are in a simulation. 'Your Reality' is the ending credits song of DDLC, sung by Monika. Genocider Sho, or Syo, is the original Japanese name of Genocide Jack. At the end of Danganronpa 1, it's revealed that everything that happened was being streamed to the outside world on TV. This could also be referring to the ending of Danganronpa V3, where it's revealed that the whole series has been fiction (inside the Danganronpa universe, a second layer of fiction), and so Toko would just be a reality show character to the 'real' people in Danganronpa. Yuri is telling Toko to awaken to her Third Eye to realise she is a fictional character. EXCEPTIONALLY layered line btw, definitely my favourite.
2:03 - 2:06 = Genocide Jack carves a tally on her leg after every person she kills.
2:06 - 2:10 = "I gently open the door" is an infamous DDLC line which is the line directly before the Sayori hanging scene. Sayori hung herself after getting rejected by the MC, so Yuri tells Toko not to get 'hung up' on her rejection by Togami. She also plays on Jack's Japanese name, Syo.
2:10 - 2:15 = In DDLC, Yuri pees on a poem, calling it 'endowing it with her scent' and gifts it to the MC. Leon was a character in Danganronpa who killed someone in a bathroom.
2:15 - 2:18 = 'Hit the club floor' means to get onto the dance floor at a club, but Toko takes it literally, saying Yuri hit the floor of the Literature Club after stabbing herself.
2:18 - 2:26 = Alter Ego is a character in Danganronpa who is an Artificial Intelligence, which ties into the themes of DDLC. Monika altered Yuri's ego by making her much more obsessive and mentally unstable. Toko says Yuri's obsession was in vain, but wasn't pointless, because the result of Yuri's obsession was her stabbing herself.
