One of the more fascinating characters involved in Watergate was Howard Hunt. He was from the OSS (prior to it becoming the CIA), spent years as a station chief, undermining communist regimes, helped organize the Bay of Pigs and even was suspected by some of being involved in the Kennedy assassination, he did all of this, while at the same time writing over 40 novels under an assumed name. William F. Buckley used to work for Howard Hunt in the CIA, Buckley was Hunt's children's godfather. Liddy got more of the attention, but Hunt was a more fascinating character.
Hoover took a pass on going after Ellsberg, due to toys? Crazy, that was red meat for Hoover. This whole series is amazing. Ellsberg must have really been looking over his shoulder. By the in 2022 its Watergate x1000 with the Fed. Govt.
20:39 - you can't have the presidency filled with old people who said we can't do that we tried that 15 years ago - I don't get it. If you have people with experience & knowledge that will help you to restrain bad outcome, basically history teachings, isn't that the best thing you could wish for to get right decisions??
A little revisionist history claiming the “media” only turned on Viet Nam War after Richard Nixon assumed office. It was almost a full year before Nixon assumed office that on February 27, 1968 Walter Cronkite famously reported the war could not be won on the battlefield. The “media” had also exposed the horrors of war through first hand film footage as well as peaceful & violent war protests occurring well before Nixon assumed office. In fact events on the ground and the “media” reporting of those events weakened the democrat party and ultimately led to Lyndon Johnson’s decision not seek election to the presidency.
Highly doubtful. Agnew was far too direct to be palatable to a majority of the electorate, and also no indication Nixon viewed him as the future of the party, which would have been necessary to win the nomination.
Richard Milhous Nixon brought in Spiro Theodore Agnew because of how forceful he was against the riots in Maryland. He was known as a liberal governor, supported Rockerfeller. As for the future I reckon he would have considered him a decent choice but I doubt he would back him forcefully.
Maybe his opinion that the dems motivation is conspiratorial but he has documents, thats evidence. He is right, they broke laws to drive Nixon out of office. Nixon was guilty, yes, but he was ganged up on. Its politics plain and simple, in the end like Trump, the repubs had to turn on Nixon to weaken his power and force him out.
Interviewer needs a new job. Continually interrupting and changing the topic before Geoff is finished explaining current topic. Drove me nuts and made it very difficult to listen to.

It has only gotten worse in 2023.
Kissinger and Ellsberg are birds of a feather
Shut up Hugh and let Geoff talk.

"The honorable conclusion of the Vietnam War"? Where was I?

💯
I hate it when the interviewer talks more than the interviewee
Poor Nixon got a bad deal, watergate was basically a coupe de tat. They took out Agnew first because they thought he would win in 76

Agnew was so morally corrupt that he was indignant that he was questioned about his graft.
🇺🇸🤝👏👏👏
This guy believes in so many conspiracy theories that it would not surprise me if he thought UFOs were actual planes.

Hugh. Is. So. Annoying.

The interviewer is keeping the story on track and drawing out facts that might be missed.
Hugh Hewitt is famous for his (wannabe Buckley) pomposity. But, this was still very worthwhile.
